Defined as ‘’abortion (also called induced abortion) is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy by surgical or medical (with drugs) means. The unintentional termination of a pregnancy (due to medical disorder or injury) is known as a spontaneous abortion, or miscarriage.,’’ (Vaughn, 2010 p. 161) Abortion has been the source of the considerable debate for many years. Most people have a strong feeling towards one way or another. The fight between pro-life and pro-choice most people believe in one of the two things; either they believe it is an immoral act to kill a baby regardless of the situation and the prescribe to the pro-life plate form or they believe it is a women’s body and therefore, she has the right to do what she wants with it. …show more content…
The pro-choice platform or moral issues, such as abortion is often related to their value system. There are arguments towards the fetus being a living human with rights just like everyone one of us.
The Moral theories by Kantian Theorist he says ‘’ Like any adult human, the fetus has rights, and these rights cannot be over ridden merely for utility’s sake.’’ (Vaughn-Kantian Theorist,2010 p.165-166) ‘’Moral Arguments: Prolife and Pro-choice the unborn is obviously a human life it is wrong to take a human life. Abortion is the taking of the human life therefore abortion is wrong.’’ (Vaughn, 2010 p.167) ‘’when, if ever is abortion morally permissible?’’ (Vaughn,2010 p.167) abortion says to maybe permissible to save the mother’s life, usually on the grounds that the mother has right’s her self-defense. What do they say when a young woman gets rape and ends up pregnant what is the right/ wrong of that girl having an abortion or keeping the baby of a guy who raped …show more content…
her? The Divine Command Theory The theory is based on something other than needs or wants.
It’s based on the rules put in place by god. In the bible we are taught these rules. The bible doesn’t use the word abortion or pro-life. The bible does tell us that every life is a precious to god. ‘’ The Lord god formed the man from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And the man become a living being.’’ (Genesis 2:7)3 As a woman it would be hard to make a decision whether or not abort her unborn child. If you follow the divine command theory you may do things different. You might not base your decision on self-interest, or on consequences. But rather on something higher, like god. As the woman you could feel you got pregnant for a reason, a god reason. This verse backs it up. ‘’Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’’ (Jeremiah 1:5) I personally feel it should be illegal to kill an unborn child. I believe that a child is a gift from god. sexually irresponsible an abortion should not be an escape from taking responsibility for your actions. In certain scenarios, like impending detriment to the mother, being faced with having a child be born with an abnormality or having to have the child of a man who raped
you. They’re a lot woman in this world who can’t have children so why not make the chose to have the baby and bless another family with a child instead of abortion. I feel it’s wrong in so many ways. You see many teens having unplanned pregnancy’s today in our world but does anyone actually take responsibility for their own actions? I don’t I think we put the quick fix to every situation. Ethical egoism is a theory based on allowing us to put our own interest first. Allow us to have a second chance or consider antler Nat life. The divine command theory does the opposite. It lets people open their eyes up to the different blessings of a new life it is. It leads us to believe in morality is based on god and the child has given us a gift. It makes us believe our child has the right to meant to be. That makes our child special in away. It shows us not matter what the issues is that abortion is wrong. Moral knowing that our child was sent to us for a reason.
Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before birth; it causes the termination of the embryo or fetus inside the woman. There are two different types of abortion, a spontaneous abortion, which is also known as a miscarriage, and an induced abortion, where the embryo or fetus is purposely removed from the woman’s body. The topic of induced abortion has been widely debated for hundreds of years. The issue of abortion was argued way back in the time of the ancient Hebrews. In the United States, it became illegal around the mid 1800’s and not until the 1960’s was the argument for the right to abort brought back to the table.
When it comes to abortion I believe that it should always be left up to the woman to make the decision on whether to keep her baby or not. Having a baby is no eas...
While deciding whether to be pro-life or pro-choice, many people consider the moral aspect of abortion and its consequences. On the pro-choice side, a woman should have the right to choose whether or not she wants to give birth. The argument is that it is her body and she is the one who will have the responsibility of caring for that child. The problem, however, with this argument is that it does not take into consideration whether abortion is right or wrong, and it does not deal with the morality of the issue. However, the arguments of the pro-life side may be more correct simply because they make a moral judgment. In Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, abortion is defined as the "termination of a pregnancy often accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of an embryo or fetus.
Each day throughout our world, medical professionals suction thousands of babies from their mothers’ wombs through a procedure called abortion. The law protects and provides consent to both the mother and the medical professionals for these procedures. However, the babies seemingly have no right to protection or life themselves because of the argument regarding when a fetus is determined be human and have life. Pro-life author, Sarah Terzo, in a LifeSiteNews.com article, relays the following testimony supporting this from a medical student upon witnessing his first abortion, “Rejected by their mothers and regarded as medical waste by their killers, society allows these babies to die silently, with no recognition or acknowledgment of their humanity” (Terzo).
With the ongoing debate and the advancement of technology in determining the viability of a fetus, abortion, the ending of a pregnancy by removing a fertilized egg, has become increasingly controversial. The morality of abortion has caused many to separate into opposite sides of the spectrum, pro-life and pro-choice. The arguments over abortion has stirred a continuous debate between a pro-choice stance such as that presented by the analogical reasoning of Thomson or Glover’s examination of social context and a pro-life position argued by a moral view of personhood by Noonan. The ethical arguments presented by the conflicting views in the abortion debate has caused others to taken into consideration a sociological account visible in Luker’s examinations of world views in order to discover underlying motivations.
The Abortion Debate According to Dean Stretton, “The most plausible pro-life argument claims that abortion is seriously wrong because it deprives the foetus of something valuable. This paper examines two recent versions of this argument. Don Marquis’s version takes the valuable thing to be a ‘future like ours’, a future containing valuable experiences and activities. Jim Stone’s version takes the valuable thing to be a future containing conscious goods which it is the foetus’s biological nature to make itself have.
Abortion, by definition, is the termination of the unborn as a result of its physical destruction. That is to say it is killed before it is ever born from the woman it is conceived through. There are three types of abortion existing in the world today, one more extreme than the other. The three in discussion are therapeutic abortion, spontaneous abortion, and elective abortion. While people have their different sides regarding this topic, the one that is up for conversation being argued by both sides of groups is electiv...
The issue of abortion is emotionally loaded and this often makes for poor, not thoroughly thought out arguments. The questions: "Is abortion immoral" and "Is abortion a murder" are often confused. The pregnancy (and the resulting foetus) are discussed in terms normally reserved to natural catastrophes (force majeure, in legal lingo). At times, the embryo is compared to cancer: after all, they are both growths, clusters of cells. The difference, of course, is that no one contracts cancer willingly (except, to some extent, smokers --but, then they gamble, not contract). When a woman engages in voluntary sex, does not use contraceptives and gets pregnant - one can say that she signed a contract with her foetus. A contract entails the demonstrated existence of a reasonably (and reasonable) free will. If the fulfilment of the obligations in a contract could be life-threatening - it is fair and safe to assume that no rational free will was involved. No reasonable person would sign or enter such a contract. Judith Jarvis Thomson argued convincingly ("A Defence of Abortion") that pregnancies that are the result of forced sex (rape being a special case) or which are life threatening should or could, morally, be terminated. Using the transactional language : the contract was not entered to willingly or reasonably and, therefore, is null and void. Any actions which are intended to terminate it and to annul its consequences should be legally and morally permissible.
Abortion is one of the most controversial topics for centuries. In medical terms abortion means terminating the human pregnancy buy expulsion from the uterus before birth. Abortion is just another name of killing an unborn child who still has a life ahead. For several years a mother has to take the decision of killing her own unborn baby for many said and unsaid reasons. The unborn child is not even safe in the safest place of the world its mother’s womb. Although today in many countries abortion is legalized but according to me it should be illegalized.
In such positions, the resolution to terminate a pregnancy may be argued as the most ethical choice. The mother is also considered to have a reasonable level of ethical responsibility to the fetus, because she did not take enough precautions to ensure avoid conception (Cline, 2014). The mother’s ethical responsibility to the fetus may not be enough to deprive her of choice of abortion; it may be enough to ascertain when an abortion can be ethically selected (Cline, 2014). When a woman does not wish to carry an abortion to term, it will be unethical for law or any other person to force them to do so.... ...
Although the Bible ; the old testament used by Jewish believers; both the new and old testaments used by Christian believers, does not specifically deal with abortion it does place validity on life before birth. Exodus 21:22-23 says: If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise (Quest NIV pg.235). Though this does not directly say abortion is wrong it does say that the loss of the fetus, "giving birth prematurely", should be punished. Whether by a fine or by taking that man's life as well. This shows that God considers the fetus to be alive and the unnatural death to be murder. The words that emphasize the value of fetus life are "take life for life" meaning the fetus is alive. Other verses that show the validity of life before birth are Psalms 139:13-17: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them (Quest NIV pg.678)! These explain that God has a plan for each personÕs life before they are even formed. They say how He cares so much for each one of us that He watches over us while we are still in the womb.
When deciding if abortion is morally permissible the strongest argument is that fetuses are innocent beings and killing an innocent being is morally impermissible. Any being descending from a human makes it a human, and therefore a fetus is human. As a society we see murder to be immoral especially of an innocent person. Pro-life supporters argue that abortion is equivalent murder because life starts at conception, making a fetus a living person. Supporters believe a fetus has a right to live and wants to live. Abortion goes against the fetus’ right to live and it’s potential to become a member of society. It is the mother’s duty as a parent to provide for the child the best way possible, and that does not involve abortion.
I believe that abortion should be banned. I strongly feel that pregnant women who want to abort their child/fetus should not be allowed to. For one, should one person alone be allowed to control the fate of another? Technically, abortion is murder, since the baby is being killed purposely. Some say that in the early days or weeks of pregnancy (maybe even in the first couple months) the baby is in fact not alive; it is just a bunch of cells. However, the fetus is breathing, and obtaining nutrients from the mother before she even knows that she is pregnant. Within no time, the fetus also has human characteristics: a head, hands, legs, arms, feet, and a torso. Thus, abortion should be legalized only when murder becomes legal, because abortion is murder.
Abortion by definition means the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy (Dictionary reference). This is a controversial issue having no grounds of agreement among two aspects. The fight between pro-life and pro-choice supporters has been long and brutal. Abortion is a big topic in this generation today because of having uncontrolled hormones, and the miss connection of love and responsibility. Considering American values and ethics, death is morally wrong. With that being said, the killing of an unborn fetus is wrong as well. Abortion has become common in America, which is understandable. On the other hand women should be held responsible for their actions in choosing to have sexual intercourse,
Abortions have always been a very controversial topic. Over the years we continue to fight for or against it. One can say that is one of the most talked and argued topic in the United States. An abortion is when a woman terminates her pregnancy before the fetus is viable using various of methods. Some argue that abortions should be illegal and considered murder, while others, from a religious point of view, say that no one has the right to take away the life of a person, in this case the fetus. However, others insist, that abortions are a basic women’s right.
