Argentina is the second largest and most populous country in South America. It is bordered by Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, and the Atlantic Ocean. The terrain in Argentina consists mainly of lowlands and flatlands but also contains some major mountain ranges. Within northwest Argentina lies the Andean peaks which stretch over 7,000 meters above sea level. Nearly one third of Argentina’s land area is covered by fertile plain called the Pampas. Argentina, like a large majority of south America contains a large biodiversity of plants and animals within its rainforest regions. Three important aspects of Argentina include the country’s history, culture, and economy. Prior to the settlement of Europeans in Argentina the indigenous people lived by hunting animals and gathering plants. The first European settlement in Argentina was established in the northwest portion of Argentina in the 16th century. Until the mid 18th century the natives of Southern Argentina were left to live undisturbed. However, In 1879 General Julio Rica led an army to conquer them. Prior to this, in 1857, the first railroad was built in the country. By 1872 it became evident that this new means of transportation had a positive impact on the economy of the county through the increase of agricultural export. …show more content…

The national sport in Argentina is futbol (soccer). It was first introduced to the country by British solders in the 1860’s and has become increasingly popular since. Other popular sports in Argentina include horse racing and tennis. Perhaps one of the most world renowned aspects of the culture in Argentina is the native dance the tango. The majority of popular music in the country was created to accompany the tango. Meat is a major staple in Argentina. Other foods include pasta, sandwiches, and croissants. Food in Argentina is largely influenced by Spanish, French, and Italian
