Even before the internet was around, online classes were a thing happening in universities, according to Ryan Hickey's article, "The History of Online Education." Though, while that sounds odd, the University of Illinois started the trend back in 1960. Back then, it was called the Intranet. It was created for students so they could have easier access to the course material and lecture recordings. However, online classes have come a long way from that. According to Idea, online classes come in forms of quizzes, recordings of lectures, complete online books, etc. and can be accessed from anywhere at any time. Someone who is willing to put in the effort can get a degree without having to set foot on campus.
Despite the flaws that come with online education such as the lack of physical interaction, Taso Lagos, the author of the article, "Pro: Are Online Courses Good for Higher Education," believes that online classes are for the better and provide different outlets than traditional school. He starts off by mentioning how the University of Washington is going to revolutionize the way they teach by partnering up with a higher group to give out free online classes. Lagos brings up how education is being capitalized when it should be a right that everyone should have. He believes that it would defeat the point of having those online classes available if it is meant to be for those that cannot afford tradition college. He is passionate about the fact that online education should be free. On the other hand, Roth acknowledges it, but is not as passionate as Lagos. Roth offhandedly mentions it when he says, "...is indeed a solution to many problems, including crushingly high tuition..." Other than that statement, Roth mainly focuses on the problems with a "one-size-fits-all" type of
