Education plays a significant role in every one’s future and lives; therefore parents have to ensure that their kids receive proper education. There has always been controversy over which is better: online or traditional classes. While some of the differences between traditional school and online school are the academics, socialization, and structure, the similarities are still evident. Traditional schools cover in depth academics and provide more electives to choose from. They offer children more enrichment activities as well as services for students with special needs. Art and music instruction are available at a minimal cost in most public schools. They plant gardens, do science experiments and group projects. Traditional schools are basically …show more content…
Many believe that by taking online classes students don’t have as much work. On the contrary, college students are generally expected to spend six to nine hours outside of each class reading, completing regular homework assignments and studying. Online students typically have to spend time doing the same type of school work; instructional PowerPoints and videos to cover what students gain from class lectures. Communicating with the teacher is typically easier and more common on campus, however, online and traditional classes both provide mechanisms through which students can interact and get help. On campus, students can talk informally with instructors before and after class, ask questions during class and stop by during office hours. Online students can call or email instructors, and sometimes use cellphones to text. Discussions and teamwork are common in classes regardless of the format. In traditional classes, students normally listen to lectures from instructors, but can also get a chance in many classes to offer ideas and discuss topics. Campus classes also usually include team activities or projects. Online classes include discussions as well, but they take place through online discussion forums. The conversation also tends to play out over time as students periodically check for new posts and reply. The structures of both online and traditional classes vary, but similar in a way. With technology, most of the school work is done through computer whether it’s in an online class or a traditional one. Classes are accessible wherever students go and are convenient and customizable for students depending on busy schedules and everyday life. Also, students can communicate with classmates or their professors through email or the school website. Connections with others can be made not only on a campus, but through
One reason traditional schools are preferred for American students is that they educate all students. According to Global Post, traditional schools usually have a diverse population of students coming from a vast number of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. By attending a diverse school there are equal education opportunities for all students.
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Another advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar college is having access to classmates for study groups or help with homework. After reading several students opinions on their online classes, I have come to realize the overall expe...
School has been in our lives for the longest time and it has always been a positive experience. It sets students on a path to achieve their education goal and stepping stones to a career! Now with all the advancements in life, students have the opportunity to do online classes. This is useful if the pupil is not able to attend school or their school does not offer some classes that they would like to take. Experiencing both of these ways of schooling, I have an understanding of the differences between the two. The major differences between online school and traditional school are the flexibility opportunities, the communication with the teachers, and the time management/discipline from the learner.
So it’s 9:00 am and your class has finally ended. As you are on your way out, you glance down at your watch to find out that you have approximately 15 minutes to get to work. As you practically sprint at full speed to your car, you come across a brief thought in your head, “I knew I should have just took that online class”. It is true that online classes do provide flexibility and convenience while traditional classes, typically, do not. And this isn’t the only difference, online and traditional classes are two helpful learning environments that differs in numerous ways.
When students are deciding on where to go to college, they have the option of choosing between online classes and the traditional classroom classes. Today, some students are finding it much easier to maintain a job, family and start a college career, all by taking online classes. Although some students still prefer to stick with the traditional classroom classes, they still have the option to take online classes. Both online and the traditional classes will provide the educational requirements needed to obtain a college degree and opportunities in the work field. Although the online classes offer just as much as the traditional classes, they are completely different when it comes to teaching methods, course material and time.
Traditional classes are the old fashioned approach to learning. Traditional classes involve being in a regular classroom setting on campus. Whereas, distance learning is a modern more technological approach to learning off-campus. Whether traditional or distance learning is better, depends entirely on the student.
There are some students who find it easier to work in internet classrooms and some others that find it easier to stay with traditional classrooms. I think someone may choose internet classrooms if they have difficulty interacting with teachers and other students. Some people do not like being in the classroom because they do not feel at ease around certain people especially those who treat others with disrespect. It is hard for a student to concentrate and learn a lesson when they have that kind of pressure.
In a traditional class when working on group assignments students get to work on the assignments together inside class and outside the class. Students get to get to know more of one another in a traditional class and get to physically accomplish their tasks in the classroom. Online classes have no face-to-face communication with any of their peers and that makes it harder for them to accomplish assignments because it makes it harder for them to build team relations within the students. Ferdig, R. E., & Roehler, L. R. (2003) state that: “Researches has suggested that the use of discussion forums has the potential to increase interactivity in classrooms”. Face-to-face communication within a classroom is a better way to interact with other colleges and its a better way to build team
Education should be one of the most important things in a person’s life. Most people are trying to achieve an education. It is stressful when you are trying to decide what school you want to go to. While debating on whether to attend college or not, many people wonder which education is better online or traditional education. As the cost of education increases a lot of students are choosing online education because its’ flexibility. If you look at it from both point of views you are accomplishing the same thing from both, which is a degree. Some people look at the cost of the school to see if they will go to school there. When you going by means of the cost of how much it will be for the degree you are trying to achieve you have to look at the salary you will be making with the major you are pursuing. Online and traditional education has a lot of similarities and differences.
Students learn more things in school like cooperation, punctuality and discipline. It offer more flexibility to students. It also helps students learn more skills about leadership when they have a representation in front of class and meet many new friends and new teachers. If they have struggle on anything, they can go to see their friends or teacher for help. Not like the online class, if they have something to ask their professor, they need to make an appointment. Online class isn’t good on one thing that they can’t make friends like traditional class, they cannot ask their friends. My opinion is the students should take traditional class instead online class. If they cannot take traditional class for some reason, then they can take online class, but it’s not always a good idea for student to improve their knowledge because i have seen many students that always get a good grade when they took online class, but they are not really know about their lesson. Why did they get good grade? Because in online classes, every time they have test, they can open notebook, textbook or just research on google and find the answer for those question on the test and then just rewrite it in their own words. They are not really care about it. They don’t need to understand. They just care about get a good grade on that class and they
In traditional classes, students voluntarily participate in discussions or ask and answer questions. Online classes, however, lack this interaction, requiring teachers to use forums, chats and other online discussion media to build community. While traditional classrooms let students gain support and personal relationships from teachers, online courses only offer electronic communication. Traditional classroom instructors can offer virtually every type of assessment, from written work to tests to oral examinations and presentations. However, online classes are more limited in the types of assignments students can complete.
Today’s generation is like no other. The nation as a whole has completely evolved from past times, with technology being one of the greatest improvements. Traditionally, schooling takes place in a classroom setting, but, with the many modifications in our world’s system, we are able to assimilate more modern means of education, such as online learning. However, with many changes comes differences and requires adjustments. The online learning system has proven to be just as effective as traditional learning, with some minor differences, however, nothing of great significance. A few of those insignificant differences include online learning being convenient, especially for the non-traditional students,
Online education is a booming trend in the education world. It is something different than the traditional classroom. It is allowing student around the world the opportunity to get an education. Online education allows student to have a more proficient and cheaper way of learning. Having multiple ways to give a student an education allows all learning types to find their own way of learning. Education changes lives but it can be difficult for students to get to a classroom to sit through an hour class 4 times a week, this can be for many different reasons. There are many doubts about online education, but this a new world without borders it is a new opportunity for people from all over the world to get an education.
Many people think online education can be more expensive than a traditional school setting. Previous generations did not have the option for online learning experience, so why should we start now? An interesting point about online education is that LeBaron (2010) states, “The largest school in the U.S. is the University of Phoenix Online, with a whopping 380,232 students. That’s over 5x more than the largest public school, Arizona State University, which has 68,064 students” (para. 7). Despite the cost effectiveness, distance education is becoming the educational model of the future.
The following article is a study on the effectiveness of online courses and their effectiveness in both teacher-guided assistance and non-guided learning. The author stated the problem of online learning for students, as being the distractions of the internet itself; online shopping, gaming and social networking. While two advantages of online learning includes the convenience of studying at a place of choice and independent work, students are challenged in staying focused or being disciplined enough to continue or even complete their course of studies.
