“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi). When Gandhi said this, he was saying that if you want good in the world, you must show altruism. This is the mindset most heroes have when doing the right thing. However, most heroes do not simply have this mentality at the beginning of their journey. It takes inspiration from someone or something, which even then, the hero might still not have full confidence in themselves. Something or someone can easily change their mentality to where the hero doubts his/herself and believes that they can’t help or do good.

In some cases, the hero doesn’t always do the right thing at first, although they always do at the end. The definition of a hero is someone who is “admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities.” or in other words: doing the right thing, and in some cases, getting admired for it. However, this does not mean that heroes must seek attention or admiration, being a hero can mean doing the right thing without any accolade. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”(Mahatma Gandhi). Gandhi was born into a very privileged family, where he could’ve easily chosen to do something that would benefit himself. He was very educated and he could’ve chosen a job that would satisfy him and bring him many advantages. However, he instead chose to speak about peace and equality, he sacrificed the benefits he could have received in order to help others make their voice heard, and like Martin Luther King Jr., create a harmonious society. A hero does the right thing, even if it means self-sacrifice. Malala Yousafzai is another hero who sacrificed her life trying to help girls get the education they deserve. According to the Parade, an article called Malala Yousafzai: The Bravest Girl In the World, Malala shares her story and talks about the sacrifices she made when discussing getting shot three times by a Taliban man: “The first went through my left eye socket and out under my left shoulder. I slumped forward onto Moniba, blood coming from my left ear, so the other two bullets hit the girls next to me.” She had been so brave that she sacrificed her life in order to do the right
