Abraham Lincoln is one of the greatest leaders. He has the quality of honesty. Another great leader is Mahatma Gandhi with the ability to have an abundance of faith. There are many aspects to make a great leader. I believe one of the most important features to make a great leader is self-motivation. Without any motivation, a leader would not need to have any honesty, integrity, or respect. One of Abraham Lincoln’s ability for being a great leader was to be aware of his own weakness. One of his weaknesses was giving people too many chances. In fact, George McClellan, Commander in Chief of the Union Army, refused to follow orders about the war effort. Eventually, Abraham Lincoln created a deadline and removed McClellan from the position. Abraham Lincoln is also recognized as, “Honest Abe.” For example, “As a young man, Abraham Lincoln worked as a general store clerk. One evening he was counting the money in the drawers after closing and found that he was a few cents over what should have been in the drawer. When he realized that he had accidentally shortchanged a customer earlier that day, Lincoln walked a long distance to return the money to the customer.” He was a genuine leader. He was also equitable and conscientious. Abraham Lincoln is an exemplification of what a great leader possesses. He had the motivation to create his honesty. Another illustration that makes a leader a great leader is Mahatma Gandhi. He was a man who inspired Martin Luther King Jr. A famous quote from Mahatma Gandhi states, “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” Also, “Men often become what they believe themselves to be. The thing that Martin Luther King is remembered most for is his oratory skills. M.L.K was a master speaker and his speeches and the greatness of them will always live on forever. His speaking style has been compared to such great people as Gandhi, Jesus and Fredrick Douglass because he knew how to dramatize the truth.2 This is evident when he gives his first speech as the president of the M.I.A .... ... middle of paper ... ...

Throughout history there have been many great leaders. Many leaders who have changed the shape of America and also soldiers of today’s Army. One leader that comes to mind and has shaped me into the leader I am today is Abraham Lincoln. When I look at Abraham Lincoln and what he has done, I think of what Army Leadership manual ADRP 6-22 defines what a leader should be and how leadership is based off of attributes and competencies.
Throughout history, there have been great leaders, some for the good of humanity, and some for the not-so good of humanity. The one element all leaders have in common is in some way, have changed the course of history. The one great leader I have found to be interesting and envision of a great leader is William Bradford, an original passenger on the Mayflower, and the first ever governor elected on what is to become, American Soil.

Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned; however some individuals have a natural born talent to be a leader. Each leader has his or her own unique leadership style. The gift of being a leader can be learned. Certain individuals are born with a charismatic style and can easily be a leader. A successful leader is one who can inspire and motivate people towards a goal. Martin Luther King Jr. was an individual with a born gift to lead people. The following paper will discuss how Martin Luther King Jr. was able to inspire and motivate people with his effective leadership style.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN: A Transformational Leader Throughout history, there have been leaders who are considered as admirable due to positive influences over other individuals. For example, in my opinion, Abraham Lincoln was able to influence the masses of people because he chose to think and behave differently from other leaders before him. When a person is considered as a leader, there are several responsibilities and qualities that will attract others to follow after the teachings that are demonstrated. Leadership can be described as the process for “guiding individuals, groups, and entire organizations in establishing goals and sustaining action to support goals (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, p. 220).
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” (Martin Luther King Jr.). Martin Luther King Jr. was an inspiration and a revolutionary. King was an intelligent child, his character was formed by his experiences, he created an impressive list of achievements, his main value was equality, and he left behind a very influential legacy.
To illustrate this, in the article 10 Qualities that Made Abraham Lincoln a Great Leader by Catherine L., she states that “During the Civil War, many soldiers died and there were many ups and downs. Lincoln established lasting connections with the troops by visiting the battlefield and hospitals, which also helped bolster morale. Lincoln also spent time talking with members of the public, taking public opinion baths”. This quote demonstrates that Lincoln was a caring person and he wants the population to know that he is there for each and every one of them. He knew what was necessary to help them regain their confidence. By being there for people when they need it the most is a great example of a leader. To add on to this, in Mark Crowley’s article The Leadership Genius of Abraham Lincoln, he claims, “Lincoln fundamentally cared about people and made every effort to demonstrate that to them. Through kind and encouraging words, and authentic gestures of exceptional thoughtfulness, he assured people of their individual significance.” This further proves that Lincoln knew how to change people. If it wasn’t for him, many people would have given up during the
To be a great orator, a visionary and a strategic thinker all make up a good leader, but by having all these traits doesn 't make up for the loss of the other things that a leader should have, like the ability to listen to his people 's need and the ability to think for the better of the nation instead of the power hungry attitude that ambition can led you
When I think of someone who is a great leader I automatically think about current and previous managers I have had over the years, and honestly I cannot say that any of them are the definition of a great leader. So after I looked up many different definitions of a leader all of them basically defined a leader in the same way, someone who leads people. So, a leader does not typically have to be a manager it could be a teacher or a parent. That is when I realize that a great leader has always been right in front of me teaching me great values, and that is my mother.
