Introduction: The company I researched was Aramark, which is a food, facilities, and uniform services provider, headquartered in Philadelphia. With 270,000 employees Aramark has operations in 19 countries around the world and ranks 207 on the 2018 Fortune 1000. Globally, it provides services for numerous big events and also to public sports arenas, schools, hospitals, corporate workplaces, and other venues. On average, the company serves 2 billion meals annually and it sold 4 million uniforms in 2017. A quick look at Aramark’s website proves that the company takes its responsibility to its employees and the environment very seriously.
Sustainability: While Aramark doesn’t put out a comprehensive sustainability report, it does include all

In the event that a client’s event is cancelled last minute, Aramark donates the unserved food to people in needy communities. The company was also recognized by the EPA and USDA as a Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champion for its efforts to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030. Since their operations span worldwide, transportation is a major part of their operations. Acknowledging this fact, the company uses vehicles powered by alternative-fuel sources, route optimization technology, and routing software to create travel routes that are efficient; shorter distances mean shorter travel times which in turn reduces fuel usage and emissions. In addition to utilizing sustainable practices in its business, Aramark also offers other companies advice on how they too can incorporate sustainability in their …show more content…
In fact, it views the differences and similarities in their employees’ cultures as a point of unity for its employees and as an integral part of their career growth and success. While the website doesn’t mention anything specific about the company’s hiring practices, it does state that Aramark tries to accommodate and promote the different cultures present in its workforce. This is clearly evident by the fact that Aramark has multiple support groups for employees who share the same backgrounds, for example: Aramark PRIDE for LGBTQ employees, Aramark Salute for veterans, the Impacto Hispanic Employee Resource Group, and numerous others. It is these efforts that have won Aramark numerous awards and recognitions. In 2017 alone, the company was named a Top 50 Company for Diversity by Black Enterprise, named a Top 50 Companies for Diversity by DiversityInc, and received 100% (the top score) on the 2017 Disability Equality Index. In 2018, it was ranked as a Top 50 Employer in 2018 Readers’ Choice by CAREERS & the disABLED Magazine. Additionally, it also earned 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index and was named the Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality, as well as named a Best Employers for Healthy
...bsite, Walgreens allots the viewer to truly see how important diversity is to their company. By providing mission statements, company initiatives and goals, and links to outside websites dedicated solely to diversity practices, Walgreens establishes itself as one of the most diversified and successful companies in America. AutoZone does the opposite of this by discriminating against certain individuals and not protecting the rights of all who work for them. Further, they have made no efforts to enhance their public perspective. To fix this, they could start a grassroots movement at each individual store welcoming in minorities and attempting to get various people in the community involved. Then, at the national level, they could develop a firm understanding of their diversity policies and publish them in an easily accessible place on the company website.
With forward movement in society, it is important to consider not just what will propel most toward success, but also what will help to sustain the environment along the way. What may have been considered appropriate decades ago, may no longer be socially acceptable due to the changes observed in both the business world and the environment (Fiske, 2010). Therefore, it is important for organizations thriving in today?s economy to consider how they may capitalize most effectively from their product or service of choice while minimizing or eliminating any damages along the way (Knoke, 2012).
When our professor first presented this project paper to us my mind began to wonder. What is a good company to research and present it to my fellow classmates. My first selection was “Chik-fil-a”, but I wasn’t sure if we could write about fast food franchises. So I continued to brainstorm about a topic to expound on, even going as far as in asking my buddies and co-workers for suggestions. “Walmart”, “National Football League”, “National Basketball Association”, “Nationwide Insurance”, and “LG” were a few ideas that were presented to me. A few of those sounded ok but none really grasp my attention. As I was visiting an outlet mall, I came across Nike store. “Wow that’s going to by my topic of choice”, is what I told myself. Week four (4) arrived and my professor asked for every student’s topic. Before he made it to me, at least four (4) others said Nike! As usual, I was the last person to give him my topic of choice. That’s when I went with “Under Armour. Researching this topic presented many roadblocks, due to this company only being around since 1996. I wasn’t sure if Under Armour practices corporate sustainability or even if they were socially responsible; but countless hours later researching this company, enlightened me of the answers I was searching for.
Whether an organization is domestic or international they have social responsibilities to the communities they operate within and to the shielding of the world. Caterpillar, Inc. is one such company that puts social responsibility at the top of their priorities. They have an abundance of engineers and technologists working on solutions to improve on sustainability. According to the 2012 Sustainability Report (2012), “at Caterpillar, we always ask ourselves, ‘What do our customers need? What does the world need?’ World Resources Institute (WRI) asks those same questions about the communities it serves, and truly delivers some amazing results” (p. 19).
Ashlee Doyon Second Response Paper (Redo) Environmental Identity What is environmental identity? "Environmental identity, is how one views oneself in relation to the natural world. Environmental identity is part of the way in which one forms his/her self-concept and a sense of connection to some part of the nonhuman natural environment, based on personal history, emotional attachment, and/or similarity.
For the purpose of achieving this, it has set out strict policies and procedures that ensures that all the companies that it has business with should provide the safest working conditions for its workers, should treat the workers products which are fairly and that they are supposed to use the environmentally responsible manufacturing processes, as long as it is an area where Apple products are being made (O 'Grady, 2008). The organization’s mission is to produce very high quality goods, at significantly low
Societal needs of designing and delivering products and services that can better serve a more sustainable environment.
Every day the world around us is changing ever so slightly in many different ways. Humans can affect the environment through our day to day lifestyle without even noticing the change. An ecological footprint is a measurement of how much a person uses the environment around them to live their life. This given measurement can help one to see their impact on the earth. It is an important tool to understand what actually a human does to change the habitat near them. My ecological footprint results gave me a perspective of how my daily life can impact the world I live in, as well as, how I as an individual can change my actions to make less waste on earth. It is also useful for each person to know their own ecological footprint since no one live
The company is listed in DiversityInc’s Top 50 companies for Diversity, and now the company sees its global diversity as a competitive advantage that generates tangible and indelible profits, and constantly adapts its corporate culture.
Sustainable operation management is a management approach that involves planning, implementation and control of business operations that translate available resources into the required product or service. It is the management of business practices, traditions and operations to promote the highest level of efficiency, smooth workflow, and increased productivity in an organization. This management strategy ensures that the available labour force and materials are changed into products or services in a cost effective way to increase the company’s returns (Corbett, 2009). It also involves production waste management, food waste reduction, creating new opportunities, environment protection, and improving customer health. Sustainable operation management in the retail industry around the world has gained momentum in the recent years, in the face of customer pressure and media interest. It is particularly linked to the concepts of corporate social responsibility and global warming (Morrison, 2013).
There has been a tremendous attention from EU scholars about environmental policy. Since the 1970’s there has been numerous environmental crises and the emergency of an environmental, social movement in several European countries, but even after green politics in Europe quietened and environmental policy gained a ‘normal’ status in the “acquis communautaire”, this attention never subsided.

The United Nations recently published a list of goals they hope to accomplish by 2030 called the Sustainable Development Goals. These goals will replace the Millennium Development Goals, which were set in 2000, when they expire at the end of 2015. Some of these goals include ending poverty, promoting gender equality, and improving water and sanitation conditions. Arguably, the most important goal is to “end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture” (in text citation- NY Times Article). Hunger was also an important goal on the MDG list, yet it was not fully accomplished (in text citation- Progress chart). The goals was to reduce hunger by half, and yet, the number of people who go to bed hungry
