Introduction Throughout the course, we have talked about leadership styles used in leading high performance teams and the situational events that could adhere to the lessons at hand. High performance teams result from a cognizant push to assemble trust and the practices and abilities important to take care of issues agreeably. Two prime leadership movies we’ve viewed were: Apollo 13 and Remember the Titans. Apollo 13 talks about the story of NASA using their resources to bring their men home safely.
Remember the Titans talked about the story of two segregated teams, coming together to do something no one at the time thought could be possible for the sake of their football team and indirectly, each other. While viewing these films,

As previously stated, project leaders “must adapt to new tools, techniques and methodologies.” (Kliem; pg. 23) The film depicts all three were achieved. In adapting to new tools and techniques, there were able to create the filter. The mission control team was given random supplies and were told to make it possible to where the square peg and fit into the round hole. The team needed to respond to this challenge quickly in order for the flight crew to come home in one piece.
Another challenge they needed to address was when Mattingly came down with the measles. Mattingly had to adjust to the fact that he wouldn’t be on the mission, which he took kind of hard. The team came down to the conclusion that one of the backup crew members would take his place. Jack Swigert would then have to adjust since this is a rarity for him to actually fly with the forefront crew.
The mission control team had to basically restructure their data to buy the guys some more time. In the clip “Failure Is Not an Option,” we see mission control trying to find the best solution in getting the flight crew home. One of the members checks the calculations and finds out that instead of 45 hours, the crew has 16 hours of power. Both crews have to respond to this setback. Gene Kranz responded to this news by distributing tasks to the crew in order to squeeze as much amp out of the two struggling
In the case study, “Effective leadership in unexpected places: A socio-historical analysis of the Red Tops dance orchestra”, by Milorad M. Novicevic, John H. Humphreys, M. Ronald Buckley, Corey Cagle and Foster Roberts, the leadership principles of Walter Osborne that I can further develop and add to my leadership toolbox are: clarifying team norms and developing shared understanding. From my experience in the military, successful teams are those that work in concert with each other to accomplish the objective as a team. Everyone has their part to play similar to a how a pack of wolves survives in the wild.

There were dozens of people ready on the ground to assist this cause in whatever way possible, but no one helped this mission survive like Eugene "Gene" Kranz, especially that all final call decisions were in his hands. However, this also gave him the ability to break or bend the rules if necessary, whatever...

Leadership is contagious throughout the world and most importantly in the Army. It is not just my view, but of all leaders, at all levels, that organizations are responsible for setting conditions that lead to long-term organizational success. As I reflect on my experiences, through experience and observation, I realize how my values, beliefs, and perspectives about leadership continuously evolve over time. Recognizing these changes over time helps me better understand that people in organizations have different perspectives in life. This leadership narrative serve as important guiding principles for how I will lead at the organizational level and represents my thought, values and beliefs.
The leadership fable, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, examines the leadership qualities and professional dialogue that makes teams effective. Throughout the novel, Lencioni provides an effectual illustration to lead a professional team to utilize open dialogue, including conflict, to reach their goals. Leadership is a multi-faceted topic, which requires much collaboration, research, and a never-ending search to find and refine oneself; hence, it is vital to surround and immerse oneself in literature from profound leaders and to mold your leadership style as a model for personal change to effectively engage in future relationships with others. When one practices leadership

As a charismatic and strong leader, Gene respected the judgment and knowledge of each specialty area in his team. Controllers had to develop an intricate non programmed decision 500-step checklist for powering the command module back up in preparation for re-entry, revising it several times in the hours leading up to the spacecraft’s return to Earth. Each team member was held accountable to perfect their individual task, and in result each step was executed correctly resulting in a flawless “successful failure” mission.

As an officer in the United States Army, it has been imperative for me to understand every facet of leadership and why it remains important to be an effective leader. During this course, I have learned some valuable lessons about myself as a leader and how I can improve on my leadership ability in the future. The journal entries along with the understanding of available leadership theories have been an integral part of my learning during this course. For all of the journals and assessments that I completed, I feel it has given me a good understanding of my current leadership status and my future potential as a leader. All of the specific assessments looked at several areas in regards to leadership; these assessments covered several separate focus areas and identified my overall strengths and weaknesses as a leader. Over the course of this paper I will briefly discuss each one of these assessments and journal entries as they pertained to me and my leadership.
