The government has always intrigued me, with the many different agencies. One part that I have always wanted to see what happens on the inside is the different congressional offices. If you are a part of a congressional office, you get to help bring change in our world. In serving the people, you help individuals feel as though their voices are heard. In an AP Seminar project, we learned about different perspectives; that project lead me to realizing how many perspectives about a broad range of topics exist in our world. Being a state’s congressman/ woman means you bring all of those perspectives together, to adhere to the wants of that state. I believe it is very important that a voice is given to the voiceless, which is exactly what congress has the ability to do. I believe in our current political climate, that it is important for younger generations, like mine, to be involved in the government, so that in the future they can play an active role in democracy. I want to fully learn how different parts of the government work, and to know how they function, you have to be a part of them, or be taught by someone who is. I want to be a future leader in America, just like Girls Scouts has taught me to be, anything I want to be. …show more content…
I can contribute lots of information that I learned in school, as some people say "history likes to repeat itself." With my knowledge I can help recognize when something is being done that has occurred before in history. I have done many projects in school about the American government, so I know how the different congressional offices work. I also keep up to date with many different political issues, leading to me being able to increase others’ knowledge about what is happening in our
This past summer, when I lived and worked in Washington, DC—first as a U.S. Senate Page and then as a Congressional Intern—I gained invaluable experience and insight to the American political system. It is amazing how much one can learn from simply overhearing the conversations of Members of Congress on a daily basis. Working on the floor of the Senate and then in the back rooms of a Congressional office were two entirely different experiences, each teaching me in a distinctive way about how our political system functions. While I most definitely became aware of how bureaucratic and slow our democratic system can be, I also discovered that with a commitment to unity and prosperity for the common good, great feats are attainable through government.
In Ap biology, we were handed a Campbell Textbook before the class began in order to complete the pre-modules. I consider the textbook to be the most beneficial resource that we had during this course, due to the amount of detail, examples, and images that it contained explaining each concepts in a reliable way. The power points that were made to summarize the main points from the textbook were helpful, however they were really long and made me miss what was actually important and take additional notes on filler information. Due to the long powerpoints, I felt implied to take long and details notes, which people struggled in this class, either taking too much or too less. After two units passed, we were taught how our notes should be, which will later help us in college. This strategy allowed me to understand the important information and identify the filler information, resulting in
John Steinbeck and Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK Jr.) have both gone down in American literature as some of the most influential authors, but why? Steinbeck was an influential author throughout the 20th century with pieces in many genres. On the flip side is Martin Luther King, Jr., a civil rights leader in the fight against racial discrimination. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the style of these two authors, it is necessary to compare them on the bases of repetition, tone, and purpose.
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course.
Becoming educated we earn the right to make changes and to be heard. I am proud to be a part of culture that has come from Warriors. We are natural fighters and have the ability to become powerful in a positive way. By helping and supporting each other anything is possible, even saving my home, La Mission.
In our countries government, Congress plays a major role in decision making. They’re primary role is to pass laws. These laws start off as bills. Bills can only be introduced by members of Congress. Although these bills only come from Congressman, there are many people who influence these bills. Such as the president, regular citizens, offices in the executive branch, and many others. The bills right off the bat do not have a very good chance of passage. Only one out of every ten bills even gets any attention at all. This is because they must go through many tests and hearings before they even have a chance of landing on the president’s desk. These steps in a bill becoming a law are very important, and make sure that all bills passed into law are the best of the best.
Valuable points and statements have all been said throughout the whole Socratic seminar discussion which indeed influenced some of my understandings of the book, “Of Mice and Men” and “The Harvest Gypsies.” Before the Seminar discussion took place, I believed that George was always a tough guy who did not express his own emotions based on an image that he has placed on himself throughout his life. When my classmates discussed the question, “Did George really believe that one day they will have their ranch, or did he just say that for Lennie's sake?” (asked by Marielle.) I heard circumstances where I changed my opinion of George and his emotions toward expressing his feelings to others. His companion, Lennie Small, was able to get through the softness of George’s emotions. Everyone who contributed to the
The liberal arts are becoming increasingly rare in schools and universities. However, Saint Catherine University makes it a priority to teach its students the core benefits to the liberal arts college. It requires students to take the course “The Reflective Woman” along with “Global Search for Justice” as an introduction and conclusion to a liberal arts education. Throughout this semester I became more knowledgeable on what the liberal arts truly are, honed my reflective judgment, developed my writing skills, and I now have a deeper and defined sense of self.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
Is hell other people? Yes! Society always judges you, and if you really care about how others look at you or what they say about you, then, for you, hell is other people. However, if you are a stranger, a type of people always stay in their own “world”, everything happened in our real world is not affect them, they doesn’t really care anything, those type of people have no feeling for anything, if you are like them don’t really care about others opinions, then nothing will get in the way of your happiness. How other people look at you matters, but it is just a reference. If you do make it the only thing that matters, then your life will become hell.
The AP exam is created to reflect what has been taught and studied in your high school’s college-level English class. The AP Language exam, which is to be taken the 11th of May 2016, is divided into two sections. These sections are multiple-choice and essay; however, both of these sections aren’t graded at the same level. The multiple choice section counts for 45% of your overall grade. During this section, you have 1 hour to complete between 45- 60 questions with about 4-5 passages. This allows about 1 ½ minutes to answer each question. The essay section is different. This counts for 55% of your grade with only 2 hours to complete three essays. This allows 40 minutes for each essay including the passage. These essays should not contain any
I have been in a position to connect the dots like when we recently learned about Miranda v. Arizona. I had previously read about the supreme court case Miranda v. Arizona, but never knew the deal behind it. Now I know what happened with the case, and I have been able to connect it with the real world and what this nation is currently going through. This course has taught me many things about our nation and it 's great upcoming. The court cases have helped me understand the civil rights movements that have occurred throughout our nation 's lifetime. The history of our nation has given me insight on the ways the future generations, us, can help change the world and the ways to avoid the mistakes made by our ancestors. The hierarchy of the government showed me how the world works and how one must follow orders to succeed. This course has truly helped me understand the new ideas presented by life itself. I can now relate to history and find comfort in history and believe it will help me find an answer to my
One topic I enjoyed in this class was social interaction and social structure. Social interaction is how we interact with others in the world. Social structure is our status in the world. The one thing that stood out to me was the three different statuses. Ascribed status is a part of us, something that will never go away. My ascribed status is that I am an African American woman. Achieved status is the things we accomplish in life and put effort into. These are the things we freely do. My achieved status would be when I was in High School and I volunteered to mentor small kids at an elementary school. Also when I help my Aunt every year with grading her papers and helping her teach at her school. Master status is the status that makes up your
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
