Size and Location
Russia is a transcontinental country spanning from the continents of Europe and Asia above the 50th parallel. It is the world’s largest country with an area of 6.602 million square miles, covering ⅛ of the world’s surface.
Population
As of 2013, Russia has a population of 143.5 million people.
Symbol of State
A Russian symbol is their coat of arms which was created in 1993. It has an eagle with two heads against with a red shield. The orb and scepter that is being hold by the eagles’ feet symbolizes sovereign power and authority, and the crowns on the eagle’s heads represent unity. Russia is also widely known for its many cathedrals that have different beautiful styles.

This weapon of mass destruction was heavily intimidating for the Soviet Union. The tension that arose between the two international superpowers led to what is known as the Cold War. The Cold War was not an actual war that used military forces and resources, it is a metaphorical war between the United States and the Soviet Union that was implemented through the arms race and the containment of communism. However, the spread of communism was inevitable in Korea and Vietnam, which led to U.S involvement. A couple years after the Korean War ends, Joseph Stalin dies in 1953, taking with him the infamous legacy of killing about 20 million people and going down in history as the most despicable totalitarian leader in history. Nonetheless, the Cold War continues with Nikita Khrushchev as leader of the USSR. The arms race continued with the development of many nuclear weapons as well as the space race. The Soviet Union launched the first satellite Sputnik to Orbit the earth, and the United States was the first to land men on the moon later in 1969. In October 1962 Khrushchev instigated the Cuban Missile Crisis during President John F. Kennedy’s Presidency, a thirteen day period where the USSR was told to remove their nuclear missiles from Cuba. Under this structure, there is a President and a Prime Minister as head of the state and government, but the President does hold more power, The current President of Russia is Vladimir Putin who was elected since 2012. He has the power to choose the Prime Minister, who has to be approved by the legislative branch, which is the State Duma. The current Prime Minister of Russia is Dmitry Medvedev. He appoints deputy prime ministers as well as federal ministers, and will succeed the President if he ever resigns, dies or is
