It was till about the age of seventeen or also known as the eleventh grade for English to be positively impacted in my life. The years before were horrible, classes felt like it took a lifetime to end, the pasty smell of opening an old book just made me gag, last but not least the teacher would never help me on what I was struggling which lead to me never paying attention to the class. The end of the tenth grade one of my older friends and I were talking about the A.P English class that my school provided. He was telling me on how fun, interesting, and most important easy the class was. Like most High School students, I started to consider whether or not I should move up into the A.P course or should I stay. By the end of the year I decided …show more content…
I just kept holding off the essay until Sunday night when I received a text from a friend asking if I had my essay done. Normally I wouldn’t post-pone my assignment to the very last minute, I would usually give myself two or three days to write the essay and figure out what needed to be done to receive the letter grade “B” or higher. As the night continued I was freaking out that I wouldn’t get my essay done, I was planning on pulling the “mom I don’t feel so good” and complete my essay that day. I used the knowledge that I picked up and applied it to the essay till it was complete. I felt alright with the essay, I knew it wasn’t going to the grade I expected. It was about a week and he gave us our essay’s back. My stomach went empty, pure curiosity on what I received. He handed mine with zero cares for it and on top a big on 76% was slammed on the paper and circled. I felt uneasy because it was a horrible way to start off the …show more content…
Last day until the weekend with a football game later that night. I was ready to get this long week over with and get the weekend started. I walk into fourth period which was my English class. Note our high school separates our lunches by your fourth period. Since I have Mr. Rickey it gave me B-Lunch, which split the class in half. I’m listening to Mr. Rickey talk about the fact of the day and my stomach started to sound like a grizzly bear, and shaking like a danger level two earthquake. My body started to shake for any type of food, whether or not I liked it. The bell goes off and Mr. Rickey calls my name, no matter how much I wanted to zoom out of the room and get lunch I know I had to stay and talk to him. He asked me “are you ready for the Café today?” I forgot completely about our scheduled meeting. I replied with “Yes, what is the menu? I forgot to check.” I am just wishing on something delicious, that will make my mouth water as if it was a waterfall. He replies “A bowl of Olive garden soup, a salad, and most important a cinnamon churro.” The dessert most appealing to my taste buds. He told me “go ahead and get your food, I will meet you down there.” I reach the hallway where they cook the food, my hair just curled out of my skin due to the warmth change, then all at once this sweet cinnamon smell hits me and my mouth was watering, while my stomach keeps making
In order to succeed in something, you must know what is expected, have the materials needed and give fourth the effort to do the best of your ability. According to the English 111 syllabus, this course is designed to develop student’s writing ability so that they can portray a clearer message within their writing.
Throughout high school, the English courses were very time consuming and over whelming resulting in me disliking the subject even more. The assignments and readings that were usually given took up the majority of my time; this resulted in work from my other courses being left unfinished. My last two years of school consisted of research papers and in class compositions. But nothing compared to the tedious work that I encountered my junior and senior year when I decided to challenge myself by taking AP English courses. Many people said it was just like any other English course with a little extra writing involved; my view was completely different. The AP English class...
Mary Wollstonecraft, a women’s rights advocate in the year 1792 summed it up perfectly when she said, “I do not wish them [women] to have power over men; but over themselves.” She is describing the fight within every woman in the Feminist Movement that began in the 1700’s and extended throughout the late 20th century. This powerful motion was a drive to address the debated issues of reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, women’s suffrage, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. As time has passed, feminists have pushed extremely hard to gain equal rights and respect from their male counterparts. Unfortunately in today’s world, society still puts an emphasis on a women’s exterior beauty. They emphasize it in magazines, television commercials, and even the infamous beauty pageant. The industry of beauty pageants is growing rapidly, jeopardizing the continuous work of many women’s rights advocates, throwing away the continuing efforts for equal rights (Miss America, 2011).
Many students think their general education classes are going to be easy. This assumption is usually made because they are the basis of all of the advanced classes. When students sign up for classes for their degree, English 101 is often a requirement. Therefore, students put it on their schedule without a second thought. Most students do not realize how hard such a basic class could be. Mrs. Fox’s English 101 class is hard because it is time consuming, requires a lot of responsibility, and contains a difficult grading system.
In high school, my AP English and Economics courses have been the most challenging, yet rewarding. The number of homework, classwork, and critical thinking honed my ability to focus and converted me
James Baldwin’s works were influenced by the times in which he lived, as an African American writer he strove for equality and used his pen to work for civil rights through elements of his childhood among other aspects.

The most important paper anyone will receive in any course will be given out on the first day of class. This paper is called a syllabus. According to the dictionary, the definition of a syllabus is an academic document that communicates course information and defines expectations and responsibilities. Some examples of what is on a standard syllabus are due dates, rules of the class and/or school, expected course schedule, required materials for the class, information about the instructor, where the class meets and at what time, and information about what to do if you miss class. Instructors spend a lot of time making a syllabus for their class and expect students to read and pay attention to what is included on it. They give out syllabi to help their students succeed in class by telling them what to expect in their course.
...dless of what I am trying to accomplish. I feel that I am much better now, in persuading someone through my writings; which would definitely come in handy in the future. The responsibility I have gained during this experience is incredible and has taught me to be a much more organized person. During this semester I was taught a process of how to write a paper and organize it. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me realize that I could definitely take the next step forward in my academic career. Each new experience I involve myself in has made me continue to grow and constantly learn something new. I am someone who has never really enjoyed English classes in the past and I when I registered for English 101 I only saw it as a requirement to graduate but I really did enjoy this English course and I know that it was something that was worthwhile for me.
During my 11th grade year of high school, I heard many great things about the AP english teacher, Mr. Bergeron. While I was in AP English, I did not have Mr. Bergeron as my teacher. The students Mr. Bergeron had talked so highly on him and the class environment he seemed to set up. While, I wished I was in his class my 11th grade year, little did I know, that a year later I would be in one of his courses. For my senior year I got to take an honors course with Mr. Bergeron that allowed me to tutor freshman's who struggled with learning. Taking Mr. Bergeron’s class and having him as a teacher, would change how I viewed certain aspects of my life.
In summary, I had an enjoyable time in my first college English class. I pushed myself as diligently as I could and learned much more than I thought I would. In addition to, my strengths grew stronger and my weaknesses improved as well. I acknowledge I still have some techniques and skills to work on; however, I am willing to put the time in and cannot wait to take English in the future. Writing is an everlasting skill that will be an enormous asset to me; in addition to my future classes, and my career as
Fictional literature can be categorized into many different genres: drama, romance, science fiction, tragedy, comedy, horror, and gothic. Gothic fiction borrows from horror by sampling mystery, dire setting, and chilling architecture. Romance is sampled in gothic fiction by the use of characters, firm emotions, and misguided love. Greenblatt writes, " Gothic became a label for the macabre, mysterious, supernatural, and terrifying, especially the pleasurably terrifying, in literature generally; the link that Romantic-period writers had forged between the Gothic and antiquated spaces was eventually loosened" (584). Horace Walpole wrote The Castle of Otranto in 1764. Walpole single-handedly sparked a new style of literature, gothic fiction. Walpole also coined the word seredipidy. The Castle of Otranto is referred as the the start of gothic fiction as a genre. What is gothic fiction exactly? How does gothic fiction use characters to enrich the work? What function does setting and architecture play in gothic fiction? How does gothic fiction create immense emotions within the reader? Finally, if Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto is the true beginning of gothic fiction, did the story influence all works after The Castle of Otranto was published?
Friday. 7th Period. Sunny. It was a picture perfect day. The final bell rings and I race to my car to leave school.
I strode into my high school Art class which was my last period before lunch. I snagged my supplies
