officials are encouraging their fellow men to then use tuition assistance to take courses such as English composition to improve their writing and or grammar skills to better their chances of getting tin tot force or getting a promotion. The reason for the high promotion of higher education when it comes to writing and grammar skills come when Last year, the “Army had backlog of about 14,000 NCOs who had been promoted to various grades in the intelligence corps but had not received formal military education” Cox, Matthew they saw that higher officials are being promoted without having the tools to do the job so now they only promote about 8,000 military men with new standard of examining for them that well incorporate more writing and grammar questions to determine if there eligible for a promotion. This was useful to me because I got to understand that if I ever want to move up in ranks I have to have be a really good writer it seems the higher you go in the field the more you have to write so you have to put on a good amount of writing to get the good jobs . "Lawyer Core Skills and Values:." Lawyer Skills and Values. Lawyer Skill, 1 Oct. 2016. Web. 03 Oct. 2016. http://www.lawyeredu.org/lawyer-skills.html Having the ability to write well as an Army lawyer is an important thing due to all the work has to be looked over by others and reviewed before a court date. Lawyers have write arguments, contracts etc. Communication via writing is main way that information is showed to orders and is recorded for documentation. The legal system requires most communication to be in writing and has very strict guidelines. If an attorney is unable to communicate well in writing, it may result in misunderstandings at the least, and cause damage to the client’s case. Lawyers read a great deal of material when they take on a client. It may be court documents, witness testimony, contracts, case law, or a myriad of other text. It is easy for anyone to skim over the information and take it at face value. Unfortunately this can prove detrimental to a client. It takes time to read critically with a deal of skepticism. It is this skill that allows the attorney to read case material symptomatically (critically). It safeguards the client from the repercussions from text that may have been written with things slanted with bias, implied statements, or hidden agendas. I’m an army reserve nurse I have nothing but paper work when I’m not working I work at a testing center for people that are trying to join the army I have to take their blood do eye exams etc. it was hard at first when I got out of basic training but after about a month or two I got used to it but if I want to move up in the ranks I have to do an exam to determent if I know everything in the field so far also they give an open ended response questions for situations that may happen and I would have to write detailed of how I should responded to the situation. Also I had to learn to write in apa it what’s the hardest thing for me because I grow up on MLA and I had to learn how to cite and do in text citation in apa after a while I got used to it and no longer use MLA when writing a apa or typing anything else on Microsoft word. Yes, and no I was in the army and now I’m a reserve so I’m doing this in order to become an officer in the army I think if someone was to join to come an officer that hasn’t been in the service prior it may be hard due to the physical and mental training. What type of writing do you do? I have to write reports every day when I was there if I a saw someone smoking on base or doing something that was not suitable for the area I would have to write a detail desecration of how things went from a third person point of view every time I wrote up a report at fast it was hard but I got the hang of it and saw it as trying to tell a story of how things went. This benefit me in showing me that in order to be a army cop I have to be able to view things and write things in a way that shows that I’m not that and I’m just watching the
problem.
Gilmartin begins by describing the typical rookie officer. Most are energetic, idealistic, enthusiastic and very driven. Quickly this enthusiasm can change from one of positivity to one that is very cynical and emotionally charged. These behaviors and thoughts over time if not corrected become exacerbated leading to noticeable mental and physical changes. The author, Gilmartin, uses personal experiences and other real life stories effectively so that many officers can relate and identify with the topic of the book.
O’Connor himself wasn’t partially physically intimidating. This fact became abundantly clear once he stepped off his chair and approached me. While not necessarily short in stature, his seat gave him an extra few inches compared to his natural stance.
From family to squad members, communication acts as the cornerstone for a military officer, assisting in the mental health of the individual as well as facilitating the conduction of successful operations by an intricate, yet responsive, organization. Military officers are often times imagined as infallible heroes, unwavering against and untouched by the realities of modern warfare. Yet, newly commissioned, 22 year old officers often faces the arduous responsibilities of leading a platoon or flight comprised of men and women generally the same age as themselves into combat, or managing millions of dollars worth
According to the reading, Writing as a Mode of Learning by Janet Emig, knowledge is described as “an act of knowing that enters as a passionate contribution of the person to know what is being known, which is a coefficient that is no mere imperfection but a vital component of a person’s knowledge.” Essentially, knowledge is composed of what a person, association or discourse community knows about what is already known in their area of expertise or fully know what could occur in a certain situation, similar to how a rhetor must prepare and know what rhetorical situations might occur at any moment during their speech or writing. Knowledge is created to prepare for various outcomes and situations as goals are being constructed in a discourse community.
English Composition II has unexpectedly improved my writing into an academic level. As I studied various English reading and writing courses, this class “English Composition II” did not immediately caught my eye. However as I researched about the concepts of this class, the decision to make was not so difficult since I was lacking in critical thinking and the interpretation of works. Also as a Business Major, it made sense that the subject of English would be of interest to me and as a career requirement. During the first weeks, I thought that I would be fully prepared for this course after taking an accelerated course in English during the spring semester. However, after attending class for about a month, I certainly did not expect to learn an entirely new process of writing
Webster’s dictionary defines the word profession as a type of job that requires special education, training, or skill. Many Soldiers would not consider the Army as a profession but a way of life. Some think the word profession belongs to everyday jobs like a plumber, mechanic, or doctor. Dr. Don M. Snider stated “the Army is a profession because of the expert work it produces, because the people in the Army develop themselves to be professionals, and because the Army certifies them as such” (Snider, D. M. 2008). In October 2010, the Secretary of the Army directed the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) to lead an Army wide assessment of the state of the Army Profession. We have been at war as a Country for over a decade and the Army wanted to know how to shape the future of the Army as a profession and the effects the past decade had on our profession.
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
Life is an amazing thing just like Jeannette Walls’ in The Glass Castle. Add a sentence about her hardships. People are awesome and we do many great things in life. Some of us go on to making and creating amazing inventions and other gadgets. Some of us go on to doing heroic things with our life. Well all have great and amazing moments but sometimes we have not so great or even tragic events. I 'm not going to say I 've had it the worst like Jeannette, but I 've definitely have a story to tell.
Since the Army puts everything down on paper, from how to perform maintenance on an M4 weapon (“Rifle…”, 2003, para. 1.4) to how to write a letter to your commander (“Preparing…”, 2001, p. 30), a good NCO must know and follow the rules and instructions that apply to him or her on a regular basis. For example, a good NCO must be able to correct a soldier’s uniform to the exact standard. In order to order a soldier to tuck in his or he...
As becoming an officer in the military, there are abounding roles and positions that will be expected of all officers to perform. Military officers are to be a member of an armed force and to hold a position of authority. There will be roles to be performed that do not have a right or wrong answer, but an officer will take action to perform his or her role and take responsibility of their action.
I have a 3,650 page blank book to write, so I better make it something worth reading. I have always been the type of person to wonder about what my future holds. I, like many others, have changed my mind on career choices more times than I can count, but it wasn’t until I joined the military August 27, 2013 that I decided on my life’s journey to become a corrections officer.
I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. This combined with general apprehension about college life left me terrified. I had always been a strong writer in high school; I know how to form an argument and support
Habits of the Creative Minds is a simple textbook with a particular twist. I began reading the book thinking it was going to be a basic textbook, but the author,Richard E. Miller and Ann Jurecic, changed the tone of the book and put it into a metaphor. This metaphor was about the reader in your writing, or for anyone reading should feel like Alice in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The reader should be reading, and figuratively fall into the reading, by this the authors means the reader should not want to put that book down. They should be engulfed in the book and read from cover to cover. The attention must be maintained and the best way to do this is by making the writing unique. The authors of this book puts
Taking a creative writing class was a good way for me to express my thoughts and feelings onto paper, as well as read my other classmates stories. Reading stories created by other people lead me into their mind brain to experience what type of writer they were, it was an overall exquisite class. I believe that every person has a way of expressing who they are through writing stories of their own, fiction is the best way to express your creative imagination. This class that I took for two years helped me become a better writer and helped me understand the types of writers we have.
... that will hopefully improve my handwriting skills. Besides the writing I feel that most of my skills are good. If I become an Officer myself I believe that these would only improve.
