Anna C. de Guzman Grade 7 Period 6 Author of Dear Sierra Death. Life. Wings? Reviewed by Anna C. de Guzman, Friday, December 5th Everyone has their problems, I have mine. School, boys, and all that. We always hear about how other have it worse. Well, these kids have it worse. Their school was a science lab where they were created. Boys, reckless, in love, and one of them was created specifically for her. Literally, he’s a clone with a hormone or something telling him to love her. Yep, life is as messed up as it can get for them. And that’s without the wings. The end isn’t near, it’s here in James Patterson’s soaring novel, that will literally fly off the shelves, Nevermore. It’s poetic-ish, suspenseful, and above all full of the love for eachother. Maximum (Max) Ride, age 15, is a completely independent, caring, and mother like leader of her flock, Dylan (15), Iggy (15), Nudge (12), The Gasman or Gazzy (9), and Angel (7). These kids have been together for as long as they can remember, and that includes being raised for some time in dog crates. Max is really easy to relate to, she has the problems of a normal teenage girl, and what seems like the weight of the world. Let’s be honest who hasn’t felt like that? As they do so, readers will love watching Max evolve. …show more content…
In the Maximum Ride series the flock has had many of trials.
Basically anything from, regenerating brothers, surgeries, flying wolf-human hybrids, and a couple deaths here or there. Nothing huge, or anything. But nothing prepared them for what happens now. After defeating the Doomsday Group the flock feels really gleeful, until Fang’s life is threatened. Fang is a once member of the flock. Now he needs to come back to help Max. The 99% Plan is in action. The 99% Plan’s idea is to kill ninety-nine percent of the human population, and that includes everyone, except for the genetically enhanced mutants. As she has always been told, it’s time for Max to ‘harden her heart’ and ‘save the
world’. This book, and series, is teaching lesson to it’s readers. The lesson, and I know this sounds cheesy, is to stick together the best you can and look out for eachother. Although this is indirectly shown, it’s also directly shown. Max, at times, says exactly this. At times it was right there, easy to pick out. At others, you really had to stop and think. I absolutely loved this book. The entire time I was on the edge of my seat, just hoping that they would live. The drama was amazing. It enhanced the story in so many ways. Making it nearly impossible to put down. The problem is, it’s so annoying when you just can’t figure out what happens next. The only thing that could have made it a little better would be if we got to see inside the other characters minds, too. I highly recommend this book.
Max Powers trusted people he thought were his “best friends”, but not all friends are best friends, as Max would soon find out. Max was blinded by the fact that he recently received a will of $12.4 million, due to a skydiving accident that resulted in his parent 's death. He didn’t even realize that his previous “best friends” (Dez Tenney,Chloe Goode,Beverly Hills, Ray Leetuff) were plotting to kill him and become millionaires themselves. Max hosted a housewarming party, at his new place in a very expensive neighborhood due to the fact that he recently received $12.4 million. Max invited Dez, Chloe, Beverly, and Ray because he considered these people to be his best friends, but what he didn 't know was his so called ¨best friends¨ only accepted
An example of their adventures is when Kevin mouths at Tony D. and his gang, defending Max and himself; after of which he discovers that Max could not have fought Tony and incredulously questions, “You mean you couldn’t take him and I was giving him lip?” (31). Kevin’s words reveal his trust in Max. He incited Tony, believing Max would be able to protect the both of them. The boys’ next conflict, an encounter with Iggy, the head of a troublemaking motorcycle gang, and Loretta, his wife, show Max’s concern for Kevin and his wanting to keep Kevin safe: “I feel real bad for Freak because he hated it when people try to rub his head for luck, but I don’t say a word, I just run us home, thumping the short way back around the pond, and my big feet never trip me up because I’m on automatic, I’m this running machine” (72). Max is very attuned and sensitive to Kevin’s feelings, an important quality in a friendship. Also, his desire to protect Kevin and keep him away from Iggy and Loretta prevent his clumsiness from impeding his speedy progress to home. The conflicts Freak the Mighty encounter prove the boys’ undeniable teamwork and
The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth is a book by Alexandra Robbins which summarizes the story of seven different teenagers that have many different problems, which many of todays teenagers also have. I found myself having many similarities to the teenagers in the story, for example, when with her group Whitney, the popular bitch, thinks “You didn't day that when we were alone, but now that you're in front of a group you do” (Robbins 21). I can relate to this because I feel as though many people are pressured to say or do things they normally wouldn't whenever they are with their group or ‘clique’. Robbins has this idea that the freaks and geeks, or “cafeteria fringe” will someday grow up and use what they are criticized for to become more successful than the other peopler people. She calls this the ‘Quirk Theory’ (Robbins page 11). This helped me to learn that right now, in high school, not being ‘popular’ may seem like the end of the world, but the reality of it is that after these four years, it wont even matter, but what will be important is how you learned to grow as a person and the true friendships that were made. This makes me want to focus more on my education and learning to grow as a person instead of focusing on how many friends I have or who I sit with at lunch, because truthfully it wont matter once high school is over.
This book was brilliant. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that made me tremble in my chair, moments that made me cry, moments that melted my heart, and moments that made me want to rip my hair out at the roots. This book has it all, and it delivers it through a cold but much needed message.
His father kills his mother, then the father goes to jail and Max gets stuck with his grandparents. Max is lost, needs a friend desperately and needs help. He even admits it on the first page, “I never had a brain until Freak came along.” He always thought that his head was empty. “Not that I have any ideas. My brain is vacant” (6). He said he was brainless, stupid, couldn’t learn… He did not believe in himself and Freak came along to help him understand that there is an “...unlocked door just waiting for you to open it.” -Unknown
It is evident that Max tries to escape his reality and get lost in a world where he can find freedom from his complex troubles, much like every other child in the world today whom does not know how to deal with such chaotic and complicated thoughts. Max, unknowingly comes face to face with all his emotions through the lives of others, helping him to come to an understanding in his escape. In the film “Where the Wild Things Are” Max’s sister ignores him, he feels his mothers new boyfriend is taking her from him and he is overall portrayed as a lonely, lost character. Max is told by his mother that he has gone out of control, which essentially is the last straw in initiating him to run away to where he eventually ends up where the wild things are. According to the article “Fantasy - Necessary for Sanity and Morality” in order for proper development, “A child needs to understand what is going on within his conscious self so that he can cope with that which goes on within his unconscious.” This can be attained by daydreaming through stories and scenarios to ...
At the end, the story flashed back to the real time. Max was trying to lure 1900 out of the ship. Having served as a hospital ship in World War II, the ship was scheduled to be scuttled and sunk far offshore. Max got onto the ship with the recording 1900 made. He played the recording and hoped to attract 1900's attention. When it did, Max tried to convince 1900 to leave the ship. But he failed, the Virginian...
In 2009, R&B singer, Maxwell released to the world Pretty Wings, a song in which meeting the right girl at the wrong time becomes bittersweet. Black was the first album of Maxwell 's BLACK summer 's night trilogy. He explained to MTV News "Three sides of my crazy personality. Black is dark. Summer 's is the lighter side. That album is more of a gospel side - not in the traditional sense, but more like Deepak Chopra meets that minister or that pastor down in the South somewhere. The Night album is the ultimate love record (Pretty Wings by Maxwell Songfacts)”.
During the duration of these many chapters I have read they have been captured; Max, Fang, Angel and Nudge are all held captive in the school. Jeb the man that rescued them had finished talking with Max, they waited nearly three days until they were moved to a different area. The mistake that the whitecoats made was taking all of the flock outside of the school. Max bit down on an Erasers finger breaking skin and not letting go. The Eraser had kicked Max’s cage so hard that it rolled three times and landed near the door of Angels cage. She unhooked her cage she got out and started to run only to be chased by two white coats.
In freak the mighty freak has a disease called Morquio syndrome. Freak gets around it and max never new in the book that he was going to die or what disease he had. Freaks doctor tried to trick freak when he was little but it didn't work. In the end she told him that he was getting a new robotic body to trick him because he was so smart.
Gaining maturity and growing up is an important part of life and can affect your future. In “Uglies” by Scott Westerfeld, everyone lives in a futuristic society where the only way to be equal and be accepted is to look perfect. The government pressures and manipulates young adults to undergo an operation that turns them from an average ugly, to a stunning pretty. The main character, Tally, is excited about becoming “pretty” but her friend is not. Her friend, Shay thinks having the operation will change her brain and plans on running away. Because of this, their friendship is torn apart. In “Uglies”, Westerfeld uses the hoverboards as a symbol for growing-up and gaining maturity.
“Allie the Outcast” is one of the two main protagonists, together with Nick, in the fantasy novel “Everlost”, by Neal Shusterman. She is a fourteen-year-old girl, who finds herself caught in a world between life and death, called Everlost, after experiencing a tragic car accident. In the first book of the Everlost trilogy, Allie is determined to find her way out and while trying to find her way in the new world, she experiences a number of adventures.
‘To prove their point, the agents in charge showed the rest of us what happened to the non Compliant. Max was shot through the chest. Taya’s throat was cut and Nora was hung. They were all 14, Taya had her birthday the day before. Her parents had booked her in a party at the zoo. She had this obsession with monkeys.
“Alumer, hurry downstairs you’ll be late for school!” Cried Mrs. Jenkins, Alumer’s mother. Alumer ran down the stairs while fastening on her silver bracelet and silver sandals. Alumer almost ran out the door when she realized she was hungry. Alumer ran back into the house, grabbed some oatmeal, and stared intently into the bowl. Soon enough steam was rising and she sped to the bus stop just in time. As soon as Alumer hopped off the bus, the usual crowd came towards her asking for fashion and beauty tips. “Since she is the most popular girl in school I’ve rarely seen Alumer alone. I heard people like her just because she has the softest skin.” said some freshman. “Alumer, Alumer, I got you a latte!” screamed her best friend Sabrina. Alumer pushed through the crowd and met up with Sabrina, “Thanks for the latte S, I got to go, but I’ll see you at practice later.” The bell rang and the two went to class, but know one really knew where Alumer went. As soon as the hall was clear, Alumer ran to her locker, grabbed her clone, and sent her off to class, while the real Alumer went to the sch...
The next day at school, I tried to avoid Dani. The cool kids said she was a “retard” and that didn’t sound good. At recess, I sat on the ground, lonely. Suddenly, I heard the loud familiar laughs from yesterday. I looked to my left and saw the same cool kids. I also noticed Dani, dancing with something she picked off of the ground. “Jessica!” her eyes lit up. The other kids stared at me, as if I was some translator for two very different languages. Dani stood up and was about to hug me, but I moved away.
