“Sometimes in life you find a special friend. Someone who changes your life just by being part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can’t stop; Someone who makes you believe that there really is a good in the world. Someone who convinces you that there is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it” - Unknown.
In Rodman Philbrick's Freak the Mighty he illustrates the idea of friendship. Max and Kevin a.k.a. Freak the Mighty go through many difficulties in life. One has physical problems and the other mental problems. They help each other get through these problems by supporting one another. For example when they get stuck in the tenements (apartments), or when they would go on their “quests.” When Max got upset when they talked

about his father Freak came to calm him and assure him things would be alright. A strong friendship can transform people’s lives. To start with, Max doesn’t have a foundation from his parents.
His father kills his mother, then the father goes to jail and Max gets stuck with his grandparents. Max is lost, needs a friend desperately and needs help. He even admits it on the first page, “I never had a brain until Freak came along.” He always thought that his head was empty. “Not that I have any ideas. My brain is vacant” (6). He said he was brainless, stupid, couldn’t learn… He did not believe in himself and Freak came along to help him understand that there is an “...unlocked door just waiting for you to open it.” -Unknown
That being the case, Max would never believe in himself and changed in life without Freak there to help him.
In consequence, a friend can act as a foundation in place of a father. Max didn’t have a good dad and his mother was killed. He always thought he was going to be exactly like his father and he would hate to think about it too. One day when they deliver a purse to Loretta Lee, they get stuck in her apartment and have to talk about Kenny Kane (Max’s father). After a while Max runs out, sits on a bench and starts crying. Then Freak goes over there to assure him that Max is himself and not his father. On the other hand, Max is a foundation to Freak in the physical and emotional way. Max carries him around on his shoulders because Freaks legs don’t work and he can’t grow tall. Max also stands up for Freak when he needs it. These examples show that Freak and Max both support each other

in hard times and act as each others foundations. Under those circumstances, Max continued to believe in himself even after Kevin dies.
Kevin (Freak) changed Max’s life and went to lead him to the “unlocked door” that was waiting for him. His grandparents told him, “Most of us go all the way through life and we never have a friend like Kevin” (159), and Max knew that Freak had transformed his life. For example at the end Max was able to write a book about their adventures because of Freaks belief in him. Max continues to believe that he can read and can learn all because of his friendship with Kevin. A big change from Max’s previous self that thought of himself as stupid and learning
deficient. In the real world, friendship needs to happen in order for a person to have a happier life. Just like in the book, friendship can change a person’s life for the better. Without a father, a son needs another person who they can talk to about their personal problems and trust. Given these points, Max’s life was affected greatly by Freak and his positive attitude. Without Freak in his life, Max would’ve never believed in himself and tried hard in school. This proves that friendship can transform peoples lives around to become better people, believe, and not be alone. The world needs more connected bonds between people in order for it to be a better place.
An example of their adventures is when Kevin mouths at Tony D. and his gang, defending Max and himself; after of which he discovers that Max could not have fought Tony and incredulously questions, “You mean you couldn’t take him and I was giving him lip?” (31). Kevin’s words reveal his trust in Max. He incited Tony, believing Max would be able to protect the both of them. The boys’ next conflict, an encounter with Iggy, the head of a troublemaking motorcycle gang, and Loretta, his wife, show Max’s concern for Kevin and his wanting to keep Kevin safe: “I feel real bad for Freak because he hated it when people try to rub his head for luck, but I don’t say a word, I just run us home, thumping the short way back around the pond, and my big feet never trip me up because I’m on automatic, I’m this running machine” (72). Max is very attuned and sensitive to Kevin’s feelings, an important quality in a friendship. Also, his desire to protect Kevin and keep him away from Iggy and Loretta prevent his clumsiness from impeding his speedy progress to home. The conflicts Freak the Mighty encounter prove the boys’ undeniable teamwork and
Max and Freak relationship is very good. They both like each other and our good friends.Frea thinks of Max as his legs, so he can walk. Max thinks of Freak as his Brain, so he can think and be smart. It’s almost like they
To begin with, according to Lucius Annaeus Seneca, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood”. Even this quote explains that true friendship is when an individual stands for another individual. In the novel Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck examine the idea of friendship between two migrant ranch worker even when there was difficulties. Through the character of Slim and George, author Steinbeck illustrates friendship and reveals that friendships stand up for each other even when is difficult time.
Also, he had received a nickname during daycare Kicker.“‘Hey you! Mutt and Jeff! Frankenstein and Igor! Don’t look around, I’m talking to you, boneheads. What is this, a freak show?’”(Philbrick 29). Tony D is the one who said this quote. He and his gang ganged up on Freak and Max at the carnival and of which they ended up in the millpond. Even though Max may seem like a giant, but he is very kind hearted and cares for everyone around him. For example, when Freak dies, Max runs through everyone he sees just to get to Freak. If a doctor was in his way they would have been crushed. Metaphorically of course. Another example is when Loretta Lee was being strangled Max save her by throwing himself onto his Father.
...ane just did not know how to show this at times that were tough for him. Killer Kane still is protective, cares about Max, and wants the best for him. When Killer Kane came back to see Max when he could have been arrested was showing he cared and loved Max enough to be arrested again right when he got out of jail. Killer Kane showed that he is protective of Max when Loretta tried to untie Max and Killer Kane snapped at her to not put her hands on his son. He showed that he wanted the best for Max when he said he wanted to start a life with Max. Killer Kane just wanted Max to have the father figure he needed in his life. Killer Kane listens, suggests, defends. Is patient, loving and loyal. He would do anything for Max, He wants the best for Max, and protects Max. In the novel, Freak The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick Killer Kane is truly a loving father and he proves it.
In today's society there are lots of people that believe that dumb people can not accomplish anything in there whole life. From the book Freak the Mighty this point is proven wrong. Max and Kevin, are the two most important characters in Freak the Mighty, they can both be described as dynamic characters. Each of them goes through major changes that are revealed through their actions, and by what the author says about them. Maxwell embodies the archetype of the hero's journey. I will discuss this issue using the fact that he has a birth, a calling/journey, and a return.
A friendship is a special relationship between peoples , It occurs between friend that care about each other. In talking about friendship , the novella from John Steinbeck “Of Mice and Men”. Two friends George and Lennie ,they are trying to find a job together to complete their dream of having a farm. But Lennie is an adult size with a child's mind, he gets in trouble a lot and as his friend, George helping him solve the problem and taking care of Lennie. Later George and Lennie finds a new job , but George lies to the boss about the problem that Lennie has.
On the contrary, these good traits could have came from Max’s caretakers, Grim and Gram. These were the same people that raised his mother, and it could have been that both mother and son had such positive character traits because of their parentage. The only hole in this point is that, as described by Max, before Max ‘rescued’ Freak at the fourth of July firework show, Grim and Gram didn’t pay much attention to him, or weren’t exactly well-warmed toward him. I can assume that throughout his childhood, he didn’t interact too heavily with his grandparents, and not much nurturing had occurred. This decreases the overall impact of Grim and Gram’s parenting, and strongly suggests that the capacity to be a good person, just like his mother, must have
Max does not want to admit that he is not tough. ,for example, when the three boys were at the subway station on their way to go camping, Max hopped on a train and the doors closed. His buddies told him to wait at the next station. When his friends got there Max had streaks running down his face. Max claimed that there was a leak, when he was really crying. Another time was in paragraph 72 Max said “There might not be an end to the bridge.” His friends protested but Max truly was scared. Max tries to look as tough as he possibly can in front of his friends. In paragraph 3 Max said that he had been ready for years to go on this camping trip. But he wasn't ready from the start Of the camping trip. This proves that Max hadn’t been ready.
“When you are down in life, your friends get to know who you are. When you're up in life you get to know who your friends are.” -Anonymous. From the novel “Freak the Mighty”, the narrator informs us that Max and Kevin demonstrate a strong friendship. All in all, they were there for each other in the good times and the bad. So in conclusion, good friendship includes teamwork, trust, and having adventures.
All thanks to his friend Walter kugler. Walter is Max 's best friend. Walter and Max started battling each other growing up, yet soon got to be companions. In the early phases of the Holocaust, Walter helps Max avoid the Nazis and organizes Max to stay at Hans Hubermann 's place. Even though Max is going through tough times he is able to keep a strong relationship with walter. Despite the fact that Max is experiencing extreme times he can keep a solid relationship with walter. Secondly is the relationship Max has with Liesel. In spite of the fact that Liesel is apprehensive meeting Max to begin, they soon turn out to be great companions. They share bad dreams as their first talk together. Max has left his family and Liesel has lost her sibling. Sharing their mishaps the two get to be associated through sharing their souls and the printed word. Liesel instructs Max that he can express his sketchy identity through words. "i have hated the words and i have loved them, and i hope i have made them right” (528). Max and Liesel have grown to love and learn from one another. Lastly, is the relationship Max has with Hans before leaving them. Max left since Hans has shown love for a Jew in a parade, and Max realized that Hans ' home would be hunted by the NSDAP down evidence of
It is evident that Max tries to escape his reality and get lost in a world where he can find freedom from his complex troubles, much like every other child in the world today whom does not know how to deal with such chaotic and complicated thoughts. Max, unknowingly comes face to face with all his emotions through the lives of others, helping him to come to an understanding in his escape. In the film “Where the Wild Things Are” Max’s sister ignores him, he feels his mothers new boyfriend is taking her from him and he is overall portrayed as a lonely, lost character. Max is told by his mother that he has gone out of control, which essentially is the last straw in initiating him to run away to where he eventually ends up where the wild things are. According to the article “Fantasy - Necessary for Sanity and Morality” in order for proper development, “A child needs to understand what is going on within his conscious self so that he can cope with that which goes on within his unconscious.” This can be attained by daydreaming through stories and scenarios to ...
Maximum (Max) Ride, age 15, is a completely independent, caring, and mother like leader of her flock, Dylan (15), Iggy (15), Nudge (12), The Gasman or Gazzy (9), and Angel (7). These kids have been together for as long as they can remember, and that includes being raised for some time in dog crates. Max is really easy to relate to, she has the problems of a normal teenage girl, and what seems like the weight of the world. Let’s be honest who hasn’t felt like that? As they do so, readers will love watching Max evolve.
Over the days together Max and Freak develop a strong Friendship between them. They are like best friends. Max is very careful with Freak because he is small and fragile. When Max and freak go on Quest Max carries Freak on his shoulders. Freak is very patient with Max because he is a slow learner. When Freak uses “big words” Max is okay with he doesn’t feel offended by Freak. Freak and Max are the best friends that I have read in a book. Freak and Max are the best because Freak is funny, smart and honest and Max is tall and strong. That is how Freak the Mighty came along. Both of them are very special in a way that when they are together they become Freak the
...ink he shouldve just put him out. I undestand that him putting max out was keeping him and his family safe, but i think he couldve found somwhere else for Max to saty. This part appeals to the readers logos. while reading this part the reader was trting to understand why Hans couldnt find somewhere else for Max to stay. Hans could've just let Max stay, and really showed how brave he was during the end of the book. This cowadice action was a disadvantage for Max because he had to go through so much once he was put out.
