Life is unpredictable. We, the human race are very good at understanding the past, but cannot grasp an understanding of our own future. Life is funny when it comes to circumstances that make you who you are. The littlest occurrence could impact your life in more than a million ways. For me, it was fourth grade, the yearly trip to the annual Ringling Brothers Circus where I was first introduced to animals being used for human entertainment. It was not until a few years later where I volunteered on a farm that took in uncared for animals in which I understood the abuse and cruelty; we, as a whole human race put animals through. Over the next four years at Arizona State University, I hope to use my passion for animal protection to gain an understanding of their well-being to teach new ways to inhabit these animals for their safety. …show more content…
Working with these animals at such an early age, I understood how important it is to comprehend each and every animal’s brain activity and the environment they are being kept in. At ASU, I will be taking a program in zoology and ecology to add on to my prior knowledge of these animals behaviors. Zoology; to learn the behavior, structure, and classification of animals. Not only wanting to learn to basics of the animal anatomy; ecology, to gain an understanding of microorganisms interacting with other organisms in its surroundings. For the purpose of learning the environment, they can be around and live within, especially for companies such as Zoo’s, Circus, Marine Parks, etc who keep their animals in closed
711 million people a year sponsor the act of kidnapping, torture, and starvation around the world. If you’ve ever been to a zoo, aquarium or a Seaworld park, you’re one of those 711 million people. Lately, controversy has struck the world over the treatment of animals in those types of facilities. There are many good rehabilitation centers in zoos worldwide that help injured, endangered or ill animals, which is why a lot of people do support them. However, there is a darker side to these parks and facilities. These animals cruel pasts and hidden lives will never be heard unless we help. Help them escape their tortured lives, and see their families they were ripped from when they were only babies. Be the voice of the voiceless and shut down
Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.
Four journalists named Helen Jones, Larry Andrews, Marcia Glaser, and Fred Myers thought it would be a good idea to create a nonprofit organization to help animals that have are treated cruelly by either abuse or when they are left alone. The Humane Society has been helping animals since November 24, 1954(2). Their mission since the beginning has been celebrating animals and confronting cruelty. There are a great number of things that the Humane Society has been doing for the animals, like saving them from people who want to harm them. The list of animals that the Humane Society helps is very long, because they don’t just help the household pets that you might have thought. The conditions of the Humane Society change due to the types of animals
As one develops knowledge of this career it is essential to have an understanding for what it is regarding. Zoology is a branch of biology that concerns the study of animal life (Zoology). Animals, in this frame of reference, are any living organisms that are not fungi, plants, viruses or bacteria. Animals include creatures like marine sponges, jellyfish, frogs, worms, rock lobsters, snails, insects, birds, fishes and mammals (Types of Zoologists Z). Zoology has evolved into a different study as it now consists of psychology and ecology; where as it use to only concentrate on the structures and function of the cell (Zoology). Zoology applying ideas and techniques to life processes has not only grouped together different fields, but also created connections to other science fields; it allows animal’s relationships with each other and its environment to be explained more easily (Hanson). Zoology embodies organizations that carry groups of individuals that are educated in an equivalent field. The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) is the most substantial membership group for zoology majors. The AZA has over 6,000 members worldwide at professional levels. Also, The Zoological Association of America welcomes all levels of zoology m...
Introduction The human-animal relationship is one that, in recent years, has come under heavy criticism. Organizations, such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), have been trying to raise awareness that this relationship may not be ethical. Changes have been made due to organizations like PETA and the HSUS (Humane Society of The United States). For example, Ringling Brothers Circus recently retired all of its elephants because people were boycotting the circus’s performances. Many people do not find anything about our relationship with animals unethical.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Everyone has a family member, friend, or beloved pet so sick you were not sure if they would live or die, and you find out about a new surgery procedure or medicine available to save them. Have you ever wondered where these new surgery procedures or medicines come from? When you think about all the major medical advancements over the last few decades and beyond, it has depended on animal research. As research moves into the future, we need to understand how the body works and how diseases progress. We need to find ways to treat, cure, or prevent disease and disability. The use of animal research is providing us with new technologies and medicines, which are benefiting both humans and animals in treating and extending lives.

Review Main Points-Animal cruelty continues to be a problem, but we as individuals can make a difference by becoming aware and ultimately involved.
When the average person thinks about zoology, they usually think about a zoo and or animals. As said in General Zoology, many questions come with this topic. “What is life? In what ways are the various kinds of animals alike or unlike in structure, internal processes, and modes of life? How do animals carry on their activities? How are the many kinds related to one another? In what ways does man resemble and differ from other living things? The answers to many of these questions are provided by the science of zoology.” (General Zoology, page 3). While zoology does involve animals, the general study of zoology is far more complicated then one would imagine. Zoology is a branch of biology that studies the classification, origins, habitats and behaviors of organisms. Someone who studies zoology is a zoologist, and has the tasks of learning about new species and their habitats. It is a job that if mastered, can be one of the most fulfilling and knowledgeable careers someone can obtain.
Executive Summary Every 60 seconds, an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Animals are around us all the time. Around the world, animals and their interactions with nature and other species are being studied. This paper will be describe six studies that have recently been conducted on various animals close to home and otherwise. Within these studies are relations to the human world. Researchers connect motion, diseases, and methods of testing health from the wilderness to human civilization. Learning about animals helps us to understand nature better, as well as keying in some interesting information into the lives of humans. Creature-like technology is being incorporated into machinery. Vaccines for camels could aid the human population in staying alive. Learning about ‘Tachykinin’ can help us fight depression. And how is all of this possible? This paper will show you the way.
When I was three years old, I spent my summer in a pond by my home chasing frogs and snakes. When I was five years old, my mother found me sleeping under a mare with her foal. When I was fifteen I spent my spare time working for a family friend’s thoroughbred farm. However, my first love for animal care was born when I was nineteen when I first held an owl. I was an extremely fortunate child to grow up in the Maine wilderness as I did, learning to marvel at the raw beauty of nature at a young age. I attended a nature themed summer camp every year throughout my youth, learning about the sciences of soil and water systems and how they impacted the animals around them. I took every opportunity to immerse myself in animals at any opportunity, from
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
Life is all about the choices one makes. It is about the chances one takes and the obstacles another will face. Life is just unpredictable that way. No one will ever know what is coming at them in a blink of an eye. But when it does, it can be changed because life is adjustable.
