The song I have chosen, Hype by Drake, mainly addresses the various enemies and foes that Drake has dealt with in the past. He mentions these events both directly and indirectly, and the purpose of the song is to show his current position after he has overcome all these troubles. The lyrics also indicate that he feels he is unstoppable in a humble way, and that he has forgotten about all the people who doubted his abilities in the past. He compares himself to other celebrities as well. In this song, I feel that the message portrayed by Drake is to not let the smaller things have a large impact, and that life gets better as time goes on. This can be seen through his various references to arguments with other musicians and rappers, after which he has only seen more success. If he were to pay heed to these small things, perhaps he would not be at the position he is at today. He has immensely grew in popularity after these said arguments, mainly because of his ability to handle the situation. …show more content…
The most attractive attribute of this song is the background music, which somewhat resembles bells or chimes. When this is combined with Drake’s versatile voice, the result is truly uplifting. When listening to this song, I am often in a very joyful and happy mood. Just the sound of it is able to bring joy to an otherwise gloomy day, and this is what I love about it. Although I may not be able to completely connect with the artist, it is appealing to listen to, which can take away from a bad
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
The fact that once time is gone, it’s gone for good. There is no making up for lost time, and you cannot change what you didn’t do. Enjoy life while you can because there is no making up for it when you are no longer busy. It’s easy to hear and listen to advice, but it is much more difficult to follow through with advice in the moment. The song uses the imagery of a man’s life passing by and how it has influences his son’s
Drake was just a kid who didn't stop going after what he was after, says his mother in an interview with MTV. A family member of mine that I had asked about “what is it that you pay attention more in drake's music?” And her reply was “his lyrics on how he would treat a woman so she wouldn't be lonely or hurt by the things he does and just because you lost someone you loved doesn't mean to stop chasing your
“You Was Right” by Lil Uzi Vert is fairly easy to understand lyrically. The essence of the song deals with unfaithfulness in a relationship as well as the aftermath. Lil Uzi Vert spends a large portion of the song admitting his mistakes to his presumed girlfriend in hopes of making things right between them. The song starts off with the hook, which rests upon the premise of how Lil Uzi Vert should have stayed loyal rather than taking another girl home with him. For example, he says, “You was right, I was wrong” (6) in an attempt to console his girlfriend and apologize. Following the hook, the first verse centers on Lil Uzi Vert’s riches due to his success as a rapper. He ties that in to his relationship by expressing how he wants to share his wealth with his girlfriend. At this stage in the song, Lil Uzi Vert is attempting to win his girlfriend back with his money and general success as a rapper. The hook then repeats itself to indicate that the argument between Lil Uzi Vert and his girlfriend is still continuing. The second verse signifies an escalation in their conflict, as he says, “You just locked the door, so I gotta text you” (42). His girlfriend is refusing to even listen
American Beauty/American Psycho was an album that was sung by the band Fall Out Boy in 2015. Fall Out Boy is an alternative/indie rock band with a little hint of pop in some of their songs. This album, which is the band’s most recent album, is full of a lot of good songs and songs that maybe some people wouldn’t like. Fall Out Boy is a face-paced band, which means their songs are faced-paced. A lot of their songs could be a little hard to understand for people who don’t listen to this kind of music. The album does not have many of these types of songs, which is why it is a favorite among Fall Out Boy fans.
Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
Macklemore begins with “When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay, / 'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight. / I told my mom, tears rushing down my face.” In just these first couple of lines, the listener is easily able to understand what the song is about, and also comprehend the stereotype that is associated with gays and lesbians. The listener is given the equation that Macklemore made up when he was younger; he added the stereotypes that were given to gays: being artistic, having a gay relative, and being tidy. By following these fashions, he assumed that he was gay as well. When Macklemore states that tears were rushing down his face, it gives even more awareness to the negative connotation that gays
History is full of great figures whose influence shaped the world we live in today. However, such great figures are kept on books, and people know little or nothing about them. Usually, people do not like to read history books because they provide bleak information. Although Alexander Hamilton is one of the most influential founding fathers of the United States of America, having an insight about him through history books can be a hard process. Therefore, The Hamilton Mixtape by Lin-Manual Miranda offers an interesting and concise alternative to history books. It gives a holistic view on Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers of the United States in terms of both personal and political lives. The work consists of forty six songs, each
Hip-Hop’s criticism of George W. Bush is a good example of hip-hop’s reflection of Black public opinion. The Republican candidate who already had a low approval rating of 57% amongst African-Americans received an even lower approval rating after his lackluster efforts to support Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (Jones, 2003; Cillizza & Sullivan 2013).
Throughout Drake’s musical career, the theme he raps about the most is the male/female relationship. As I referenced it before the relationship between men and women is one of the pillars of rap. His most commercially successful and loved songs are about the relationships he’s had with a woman. Instead of talking about selling drugs or violent lyrics, Drake raps about his love of women and the relationships he has with him. He talks about the mistakes he’s made in the relationship one song in particular “Sooner than Later” he talks about how he has this girl he loves but let’s her get away from him and doesn’t realize it until she’s gone when he raps, “I forgot to call on your birthday/ You swear you’re the last thing on my mind, yeah/ There
The first song I chose was Talking To The Moon by Bruno Mars. This song represents the popular scene from the first chapter where Gatsby is holding his arms out, trembling while reaching for the green light on the end of Daisy’s dock. The lyrics of the song stuck out because they start out as, ”I know you're somewhere out there, Somewhere far away, I want you back, I want you back.” Gatsby knows Daisy is out there, living her life without him. All he wants in his life is to have her by his side and to have Daisy back in his life. Next, the lyrics are, “You're all I have, you're all I have. At night when the stars light up my room, I sit by myself...Talking to the moon, Trying to get to you. In hopes you're on the other side talking to me too,
Eminem came from poverties that many would not succeed from. Many doubted Eminem for becoming a rapper because of his color, lack of lyrical skills, and lifestyle. It even accumulated when he dropped out of high school and pursued his rapping career. He never believed of failure which motivated him to engineer his own long rhyming skills. He used his own adversities to inspire his songs which many consider masterpieces. His daughter Hailey made a great contribution towards his career as he wanted to flourish in her eyes and give all he had never had. Eminem has changed the interface of rap music and has generated a new era of rap which he will be considered as the ‘Greatest Rapper of All Time’.
The song I picked for this homework assignment is called Runaway Love by Ludacris and Mary J. Blige. The song is describing the hardships of three young girls and their struggle to survive. Finally, the girls are fed up with the lives they are forced to live and decide to pack up their things and run away. I think this song can relate to many aspects of sociology that we have learned in class. Some examples shown through the song are poverty, education, healthcare, marriage and family. All three girls’ different stories and struggles they face.
The song Hotline Bling,I enjoyed the melody, but i didn’t particularly enjoy the message that the artist protrayed lyrically. The whole notion of the song seemed questionable. In this song I felt as if these lyrics held a resentful and sulky vibe. The song didn’t leave me feeling any type of acclaim. But I was left with a negetive impression of the artist.
