A complex social criticism comedy plays role with the wealthy social class Paris. It has many great and remarkable elements. Start with the Cinematography, and editing. And some other elements didn’t make sense for me and that’s doesn’t mean it’s a bad. It just the director choice and vision. I’ll enumerate what i liked first then what i didn’t. The Cinematography of the The Rules of The Game was really incredibly great. There is a lot of zoom out movement to get another subject in the frame. And i don’t know exactly how they did it but it was really as smooth and pleasant as what a dolly can do. The clean close ups were extremely effective. When they went to hunt the rabbits and birds Jean Renoir used different shots of the rabbits and birds before, during, and after to convey the feeling. Smooth Dissolve was used as well to shift from day to another. What i didn't make sense for me is what might be the deep theater kind of blocking. For instance, when the Schumacher was chasing Marceau who was playing around with his wife, we see Christine and the guy who acted with her leaving the place as well. now this is was confusing for me because it’s destructed me and i couldn't know who am i supposed to follow. That’s happened again in the fighting sequence, a lot of actions were all over the screen. For sure, This is a great difficult way to block a scene, but i didn't feel well watching it. Last but not least, The Rules of the Game is unevenly acted, The acting was a little bit too cold and for some scenes even though it’s kind of Comedy. I’m not sure if this is the movie mood and the director creative choice. Or it might be the French style of acting. But what i’m sure about is that I couldn't get attached with the characters due to what i think is a cold performance. And what i consider it a cold performance, other might
