Analyzing Joe Biden's Speech At The University

Biden is Back. After getting the announcement a few weeks earlier, University of Delaware students eagerly awaited the arrival of our most famous alumnus and former Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden. That day was cool and rainy but that did not stop many students, including myself, from lining up at 10am to get a chance to get up front for the speech. The atmosphere was electric and it felt more like I was waiting for my favorite band to perform at a concert rather than a politician give a speech about public policy. However, we were all eager to hear what he had to say given our current political climate. The topic was appropriate for the audience and occasion because the speech was about the new Biden Institute on campus, which will benefit students and the university. Overall, he had a clear message and that was to get involved in public policy. It was a short and simple speech but it got the audience excited about the topic. Personally, I thought it was an effective strategy to deliver the information about the new Biden Institute rather than just sending that same information in an email that few people would read. As for the delivery, I thought it was very well spoken. Biden was energetic and engaged the crowd effectively but also serious when necessary. I thought he did everything perfectly and based on the audience reaction, I believe they think so, too. If I had to choose one critique, I would say it may be helpful to add some more detail overall about the Biden Institute. But that may be more effective for another time and speech. In all, I don’t think I would have advised him to change anything because it was a well delivered speech that engaged the audience and got them thinking about the subject of public policy and the need for younger political
