Analysis of an Advertisement
From initial glances of the double-paged advertisement, the two
illustrations of a young woman situated around the brief appearance of
text, show as the most striking. Their possession of the majority of
the advertisement's space can be partially responsible for this
consequence however.
The brief inclusion of text within the advertisement simply describes
the novelty of the product, stressing its reputable trait of having a
"molten diamond shine" - hence the use of diamond graphics at the
bottom of the page. The last two lines of the text consist of language
methods of repetition, "glides on slicker than slick", and rhyme, "add
some flash to the splash!" to again, highlight the properties of their
new product.
Immediately, the glittery pink colour of the promoted product, used
upon the lips of the enlarged face, attracts and focuses our eyes upon
the most vibrant of colours evidently on the page.
Interestingly, the reader is overwhelmed by direct looks of the eyes
of this enlarged, cropped image of which are focused at the reader,
luring and involving the reader into the advert, as outwardly there is
more visual contact. This possibly can act as a boost of sales of
their product, which implies a great success of promotion.
The full-length photo of the selected model emphasizes her slim, young
and toned figure wrapped within a sequined dress to reflect the unique
"liquid diamond" trait of the product - lip-gloss. The use of this

product to her recognized glamour and beauty, using such techniques

attempt of promotion of their novelty product, and generally it all

This essay is an analysis of two advertising posters, one of being a modern piece of media, the other being aimed at the previous generation. I will be reviewing posters from Coca Cola and Benetton, the latter being the modern piece of media in this comparison.
Advertising is form of communicating and using methods into getting the buyers to purchase a product. Cosmopolitan has done a good job in determining what readers and listeners want and need. Cosmopolitan is a magazine directed toward young people who have low self- confidence and low self-esteem and also who care about health and appearance. As Fowles said, “By giving form to people’s deep-lying desires and picturing states of being that individuals privately yearn for.” (Fowles, 137). All advertisers know who and what readers wish or long for.
This advertisement appears in the Seventeen magazines, whose readers range in age between thirteen and twenty-five. The visual shows a young, blonde, Caucasian female who is attracting the readers to the COVERGIRL™ product. Placing this sort of ad in the Seventeen magazines is appealing to most young women due to the beautiful celebrity, Taylor Swift, who uses the same product. Also, the colors used, such as the pastel pinks, draws in the reader since they are very feminine colors. Finally, the product itself is appealing to the audience of Seventeen because younger women like to look their best, and to do that, lip-gloss is a handy accessory.
Advertisements are all over the place. Whether they are on TV, radio, or in a magazine, there is no way that you can escape them. They all have their target audience who they have specifically designed the ad for. And of course they are selling their product. This is a multi billion dollar industry and the advertiser’s study all the ways that they can attract the person’s attention. One way that is used the most and is in some ways very controversial is use of sex to sell products. For me to analyze this advertisement I used the rhetorical triangle, as well as ethos, pathos, and logos.
This paper will analyze an ATT commercial according to audience, purpose, context, ethics, and stance. The focus will emphasize the audience which the aid is trying to reach and how they do so.
The language that was used in the advertisement was also copied from the newspaper, which provoked these results positively. It can also be said that both the layout and language have contributed to the advertisement having a particular effect on the consumer audience. In conclusion it is the attractive newspaper design and comic attitude, which has achieved the positive effects that this campaign set out to do.
Both of the advertisements placed side by side are promoting a college called Niemeyer University. Visually, each ad grabs my attention and are brief with there message , however the second one does a better job seeing that it also seems believable and has all of the facts necessary for enrolling into the University. Ad number two also checks out as more ethical; it is factual, it is not exaggerated, respectful of other Universities, can be verified upon research of the cited claims and is free of discrimination. The first ad fails to be free of exaggeration and can not be verified upon research of its stated claims due to being not believable and not having enough necessary facts. However, both advertisements are respectful and free of discrimination in there presentation.
The text at the bottom of the page is small and proposed for readers who express more interest in the product . The advert immediately captures your attention and makes certain you look at the most significant image - the product. It has a clear background with no small images, allowing no distractions. If the reader's attention is not diverted they can only look at the product and other relevant images. This is the best way to acquaint the viewer with the merchandise.
