This story is about a young boy called Michael who was looking forward to moving house, but his baby sister falls ill and he feels helpless. Michael's life changes forever when he finds a strange creature in his garage and he confides in his new friend Mina. This book has a very interesting storyline where issues such as death, life, friendship and love are examined carefully.
Comments and Reflections
When I first saw the book I was not sure what it was going to be about, although I did think that Skellig was possibly an alien or creature. I had heard positive comments about the book so I was looking forward to reading it.
I do not remember ever reading a book quite like this one before. I think it is different as it puts you into another world but at the same time deals with a lot of issues that make you think.
This book is full of adventure and excitement and captures the reader's attention. I really enjoyed this book and read it quickly in about two days. I thought it was brilliant the way David Almond described the images by his use of adjectives and similes. All the...
What I liked most about it was reading from two different perspectives and how those different perspectives met through the book.
Piper’s use of imagery in this way gives the opportunity for the reader to experience “first hand” the power of words, and inspires the reader to be free from the fear of writing.
All in all I think these two books where every interesting in their own book ways. They both include a large amount of similarities and different between the books, characters, and story line. I am glad I got opportunity to read and write about these two books because I have gain a lot of knowledge and understanding of the books and what the 2 authors were trying to say about our future. The authors are both right and wrong about our future, to bad they are not alive to see the outcome of our world.
Stylistically, the book is arranged in rotating chapters. Every fourth chapter is devoted to each individual character and their continuation alo...
when I am finished I have a totally different attitude. This book has the same concept, but on a
Although I could not relate to the main character in many ways this book was very interesting and eye opening.
The theme of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is randomly taken from their home and forced to work but they still remain a close nit family. In addition, they even manage to stick together after being separated for one of their own. These show how even in the darkest time they still manage to find a glimmer of hope and they pursued on.
This book is a tale of two young boys Jamie and Awasin that have a remarkable adventure throughout the arctic plains. The boys face almost impossible challenges to conquer. When the supplies run low the boys will have to use all of their might to overcome the obstacles. They have to battle the elements in this thriller of a novel. This book excites the reader to want to keep on reading.
I was surprised by this book because it wasn’t as colorful as the other work he has written or worked on and that just took be by surprise. It was just lot of whites and organ coloring with maybe a pock of green and pink here and there, but I like books that have lots of color in them and this was not that kind of book. I also didn’t like the story line in this book like I do with his other books some of them have a funny element to them, but this one was just seem to not have those funny
A breathtaking saga of a young girl’s tragic memories of her childhood. As with Ellen, Gibbons’ parents both died before she was twelve-years-old, forming the family. basis of the plot and themes of this novel. The fond memories she possessed of her mother and the harsh ones of her father are reflected in the thoughts and actions of Ellen. The simplistic and humble attitude that both Gibbons and Ellen epitomizes in the novel is portrayed through diction and dialogue.
Discuss at least three things that impressed you or caused you to think differently as a result of reading the book.
The Narnia Chronicles have already established themselves as timeless works of literature. They appeal to both the atheists and the God-fearing, to both the uneducated and to scholars; to children and adults. An understanding of the Biblical allegory in these books is not essential to their appreciation. A critical analysis of these works, however, does allow the reader to more fully appreciate Lewis' unique gift to simplify complex narratives and craft beautiful children's fantasies. This, in turn, allows the reader to gain both a deeper understanding of Lewis as a skilled creative writer, and a deeper satisfaction of his art. To be able to appreciate C.S. Lewis as such an artisan can only add to one's enjoyment of his works.
I loved this book, its different religious views and different perspectives, the little love story and the search for oneself. It was a book that I couldn’t let go of. A book that can make you cry and is very emotional.
...o mirror the horrors of the wa rin which these four people are involved. The themes explored through the elements in particular, are complex and contradictory, just as the elements are themselves. Sometimes harsh, sometimes cleansing, and almost always painful, these elements shape the characters and plot, and reside in much of the imagery explored in the novel. The techniques of symbolism, metaphor and imagery develop the novel's themes of love, war, suffering and identity, which inform a reading of the novel which would not be as powerful through use of characters and plot alone. The subtlety and eloquence through which these themes are explored really inspire thought and reflection in the reader, which in turn credits a more complex understanding of the novel.
In this book review I represent and analyze the three themes I found the most significant in the novel.
