Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. We did a SWOT analysis to further understand Alibaba’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunity and threats. Alibaba’s strengths would definitely be the high brand awareness in China and strong brand capability that makes Alibaba the most favorable e-commerce in that country, the same way customers in United States feel about Amazon. In contrast, the weaknesses that Alibaba currently facing are low brand awareness outside China, low engagement with buyers and its revenue is limited to the supplier’s membership. Alternatively, Alibaba’s opportunity could be seen as a way to leverage its business to a higher level. E-commerce has been growing rapidly and there are so many technologies that would definitely help Alibaba to improve its business offerings, as well as the growing number of small and medium-sized enterprise around the world that Alibaba could definitely benefit from. Conversely, this also increases the amount of complaints about the lack of trust on the quality of the products offered by the sellers that uses Alibaba as the middleman. This would not only put the sellers in a bad light, but also Alibaba’s image would slowly be viewed negatively for
