Analysis of Love Poetry from Different Poets
As long as there has been poetry there has been ‘love’ poetry. Many
poets express their feelings through their writing, therefore many
poets write about love and other emotions and feelings attached to it.
Different poets have different styles of writing, so approach that
particular subject in different ways. “I am very bothered” by Simon
Armitage, “I wouldn’t thank you for a Valentine” by Liz Lochhead and
“First Ice” by Andrei Voznesensky are poems where the poet uses
different styles of writing.
“I am very bothered.” By Simon Armitage is a confessional monologue.
The poet is reflecting on past events, he is addressing a woman he
loved as a teenager.
The poet does not use a rhyming pattern, but instead uses an irregular
pattern in three blocks, possibly because he wants the reader to
concentrate on what he has to say, as it is important to him. He uses
a personal, narrative style to express his feelings, leading to his
final admission:
“If you would marry me.”
although he claims that’s not what he wanted to say by saying, “Don’t
believe me,” he wants to make a better impression, to show he can say
how he feels without having to hurt or scar her.
The poet uses images associated with burning; he describes in graphic
detail what happened. Not only does the poet give a clear picture, he
also makes you see what he sees and smell what he smells, “unrivalled
stench.” The burning possibly symbolises his desire for her. The two
rings marked on her fingers, “for eternity,” symbolises marriage and
wedding rings.
The poem is reflective and thoughtful. The poet proves that love ...

This gives the impression that he knows the girl,
“The first ice if human hurt,”
He understands how she is feeling and what she is going through.
The poem is a sad poem, unlike the first two poems. The poet is saying
that love hurts and he possibly knows this too well. The poem has been
written to move the reader.
I thought the poem was very effective, I felt what the girl felt and
it made me see that love can hurt too; it is not always a blissful
feeling.
‘Love’ poetry is always heartfelt as love is a deep emotion. Many
poets express their opinions on love and some reveal their deepest
emotions through their writing so therefore ‘love’ poems are generally
sincere and very touching. My personal preference is “First Ice” by
Andrei Voznesensky as I felt it had more depth than the other two
poems.
After the Civil War, African Americans encountered great discrimination and suffering. During this era, two influential leaders emerged from different philosophical camps. Brooker T. Washignton of Virginia and William Edward Burghardt Dubois of Massachusetts proposed, different means to improve African Americans’ conditions. These men had a common goal to enrich the black community. However, the methods they advocated to reach these goals significantly differed.
There is nearly 400,000 children in out-of-home care in the United States right now (Children’s Right). Just about every day children are being shipped in and out of foster homes and group homes. Most people want the best for children in foster care and decide to take care of them until their parents can possibly recover. The foster care system can have both a negative or positive effect on children, foster parents, and biological parents because of the gaps in the system. Foster cannot not be avoided but the some aspects of the foster care system can be avoided if the missing gaps were filled.
Attitudes Towards Love in Pre-1900 and 1990's Poetry “The Despairing Lover” written by William Walsh was written pre 1900 whilst the second poem “I Wouldn’t Thank you for a Valentine” by Liz Lockhead was written in the 1990’s. These poems are almost a century apart. Attitude towards love changes over time and these poems represent this. I Wouldn’t Thank you for a Valentine is about how people think about Valentine’s Day in the 1990’s, while The Despairing Lover is showing what people think and how important they see love in the 1990’s.
Notably, sorrow and regret is the tone of this poem, demonstrated in the very first stanza:
Chronic abuse and neglect is a huge part of the foster care system. According to the Children's Rights website, “Nearly 700,000 abused and neglected children will spend time in foster care in the United States this year.” Many children find themselves being looked after by a social worker, and eventually into the arms of a new family. The authors of Foster Care Placement, Poor Parenting, and Negative Outcomes Among Homeless Young Adults state that “More than half a million American youth currently [are] in foster homes due to child abuse and neglect,” (Tyler, Kimberly A., and Lisa A. Melander). This is a very terrifying statistic. It’s hard to think that there are that many children in foster care, let alone that over half a million are in the system because of child abuse and neglect. Some have even dealt with abuse before, during, and after foster care (787). This leads me to my first point; if foster care is so great, why are children still having to deal with abuse once they’ve been placed in foster care? Why are children like Krystal Scurry being raped and killed by those who are supposed to be offering better living conditions (Ambrose, Jeanne). Why are little children like Joshua Lindsey being beaten to death by their foster parents (1)? Who is re...
As of 2014, there were over 415,000 children in the foster care system. Foster care is the raising and supervision of children in a private home, group home, or institution, by individuals engaged and paid by a social service agency (Legal Dictionary, 2016). Care givers can be of kin relationship to the child, or may not know the child at all. Group homes are run by a social worker and can house multiple children at a time. These homes are usually regulated by the state and/or government. Children of all ages go through many emotions when their lives revolve in foster care. This paper will discuss the emotions children deal with regarding separation from birth family, the effects of abuse, and the possibility of having to transition out of
... be casting stones, or holding a conversation. The speaker of the poem does not move on from this emotional torment, yet I do feel as if in his quest for closure he does resolve some of the tumultuous feelings he does have in regard to losing his love.

Women in classical Egyptian, Indian, and Persian literature are depicted as being more than just one dimensional figures. They are displayed as living beings, capable of emotion and exercising power amongst men. Ancient history has shown that in places such as Egypt, woman had equal rights alongside men, in regards to legal and economic rights. At the time, rights were based on economic class and not gender. By having a rights system that mimicked that of men’s rights, Egyptian women were able to show their multi-dimensionality. This multi-dimensionality was best portrayed in love poems such as “The Beginning of the Song that Diverts the Heart,” “I passed close by his house,” and ancient Egyptian literary artifacts, involving stele’s of Ahhotep
Moving into adulthood comes with its challenges for any teen. Of the 300,000 youth in foster care, the 25,000 currently facing transition experience even more challenges. Most youth leaving the foster care system do not receive enough support to succeed while living independently. Youth that have been placed in the foster care system are more likely to be imprisoned, unemployed, and uneducated. Together, those three things often lead to homelessness. These kids are thrown into a system that they do not understand, leaving them unprepared for the challenges that adult life includes. The issue is whether or not the foster care system provides a sufficient transitional living program for youths that are beginning to age out of the system (Courtney).
The survey mainly focused on how well they were supervised, provided with things they needed, sexual abuse, and physical abuse. The study showed that most children in the foster care system suffer from abuse or neglect more than other ordinary families. The results also showed that most of the kids have health problems are behind in social and cognitive development. Foster children were shown to be way below average in their cognitive and social skills in every single level that they measured. The study also showed that the older kids who had been in the system and were either abused sexually assaulted or in group homes had a low risk for well
Even though most people don’t know, there are children and adults all around us that have been in the foster care program. More than half a million of today's youth are currently in foster care. The foster care program is for children that are taken away from their families due to unsafe living conditions and are placed with a temporary family until they are either placed back with their families or adopted. Many foster children are bounced around from home to home and never stay in one place for very long and this at times causes there to be behavioral problems with the said child. Foster care has been a major part of my life growing up. Although I am not a foster child, nor was I in the past, my family and I were a foster family, along with all three of my aunts. My aunts have homed over one hundred foster children, and have even adopted some along the way. My family and I have had two foster boys who have both been adopted and now have the family they deserve to have.
Throughout the years more and more youth are being separated from their families and are being sent to foster homes. As more children and youth enter foster homes they are also staying longer periods of time, meaning that something is not working as efficiently as it should be in the foster care system. These children and youth are being sent to foster homes because the types of relationships that they encounter at home with their families are no longer healthy relationships. There are multiple types conditions that may have some risk factor for child maltreatment. When child maltreatment begins to emerge within the homes it is no longer a safe environment for the child to grow up in. Although child maltreatment is one of the primary causes

There is much evidence documenting the serious damage suffered by children without permanent homes who are placed in substandard foster homes. Children frequently become victims of the "foster care shuffle," in which they are moved from temporary home to temporary home. A child stuck in permanent foster care can live in 20 or more homes by the time she reaches 18. It is not surprising, therefore, that long-term foster care is associated with increased emotional problems, delinquency, substance abuse and academic problems.5
