The readings done in class shared the common theme of a protagonist being resilience towards certain setbacks caused from bigotry and injustices towards the chicana/ chicano characters in the stories. Each of the protagonist in these tales shared similaires qualities that allows to resist oppression such as there own personal experiences. The protagonist in “Zoot Suit”, Henry and his companions were falsely accused of murder of another latino because of the association of their “Zoot Suit” as the impression as a violent gang but were able to resist and fought. Each of the protagonist in the stories hold the similar qualities of being strong willed, factoring from either their own personal experience or their culture “traditions” and allows them to become a force to resists these injustices. …show more content…

In the case of Henry’s forces was actually the persona of “Pachuco”, a mystical zoot suiter that only Henry could hear, focus on the important theme and illustrates the injustices created by the media. For example during the interaction between Pachuco and the Press was intense as he explains the true meaning of zoot suits to the press as “ to look like a diamond, to look sharp … Finding a style of urban survival in the rural skirts and outskirts of the brown metropolis of Los”(pg.80). But the press retoried with bigotry as they claim that the minority were savages till the white man pulled them out of the jungles.
