Pathos, Ethos, and Logos are used in the Old Spice commercial by evoking the emotional appeal, presenting good character, and by logical reasoning. These three things are what makes the perfect commercial or an ad. It tries to persuade people into buying their product, maybe by an emotional appeal or persuasion. They will even tell you that the viewers are wrong and that a person is missing out, because the people do not own their product. Pathos tries to strike and emotional appeal to a brand or product. The ad tries to lure men in that does not really have luck with women. It focuses on a man that is desperate to get the ladies, so it tells them that if they buy this product the women will flock to you. This commercial contains both ethos and pathos. Credibility is another word for ethos; it is the use of reputation, experience, and values of the author or an expert to support claims (Johnson-Sheehan 147). Ethos in the commercial is shown at the end. The last frame is the start living healthy and Department of Health logo, which makes this commercial credible. Pathos are emotion, the text uses feelings desires, or fears to influence the reader. The pathos in this commercial is at the beginning. A beverage can gets opened and poured into a cup. What comes out is orange junk and leaves you thinking, what! Where's the soda/juice? This made me feel disgusted because in actuality, the orange junk is in comparison to how much sugar soda/juice can contain. The second pathos is shown when the actor drank the cup of orange junk. Those made me feel even more disgusted and not want to drink soda again! The third pathos is shown towards the end of the commercial, showing the healthier choice, water.
Pathos is to illustrate emotions and it is to evoke emotions from the audience and this commercial is a perfect example. Because when watching this the sentimental feeling comes to the viewer and seeing how the customers are in a happy mood right away and how they react to the kindness that the employees are providing. Because when you watch this it makes you feel inspired. It was neat to see how the families reacted and hugged each other.

I believe this company accurately counteracts the emotions and anxieties facing our female population in this generation by confronting them. I believe they antagonize what every other company chooses to exploit in order for their consumers to buy their products. Using the vocabulary provided in our textbook, I will define pathos and ethos along with their sub terms to analyze the advertisement. With so many advertisements and companies influencing women of our society to conform to a mold, Dove is sending a different message. After describing the ad, I will then use the rhetorical tools I have chosen to analyze and explain them.
In the art of persuasion, there is something that complements the use of ethos and pathos. Any company could make a commercial with high credibility and strong emotional connection, but it needs to sound logical to convince the customers. I can imagine a story about young lovers meeting and falling in love while I saw the print ads photo.
