The Last Supper was a celebration of Easter and before Christ’s sacrifice. Where Jesus wash all of His Followers feet’s, where He told Judas to hurry up with what he was going to do, and where Pitter was told that he was going to deny it three times before a rooster sings.
Castagno frescoed one of the arts, which has a representation of the Last Supper of the Lord with His Disciples in 1447. The Last Supper is painted on a huge mural in which she took slightly more than a month. This mural was painted in the Sant’Apollonia abbey in Italy, which has a biblical tradition. Castagno incorporated to her paint three-dimensional in which the art appears realistic she uses lighter and a mixture of colors for her background and his Disciples. The artist does not use light to highlight each subject she used the inner and outer light for a clear painting focusing on everyone but also on the table. However, in this illustration of the Last Supper seems to be when Pitter is saying that he was never going to deny Jesus.

The book Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes shows you the story of Estrella and her family and the struggles they face as migrant workers. Among all the symbolism in the book the one that stand out the most is Petra’s statue of Christ, which symbolizes the failure of religion and the oppressive nature of the Christian religion especially in minorities. Throughout the book, Estrella’s mother, Petra relies on superstitions and religion to get her through the hardships in life. In tough times, she turns to the statue and prays for guidance. Her thirteen-year-old daughter Estrella is the first of her family to realize that she needs to stop relying on religion and take control of her life. This brings in a wave of self-empowerment, not only for Estrella but eventually for all the characters as well. In the book, you’re able to see how religion exemplifies the failures of religion in minorities and how it hinders the growth of the characters while helping some of them.
Gerhard Lohfink, in his book, “Jesus of Nazareth” believes that Jesus’ person and ministry are intertwined, or actually one and of the same. After Lohfink clarifies the difference between the "reign of God" as distinct from the “Kingdom of God,” he asserts that in Jesus, there is this active, ongoing reign which is not only revealed, but is manifested in all He says and does. Lohfink states, that Jesus is “not just preaching about the reign of God, but He is announcing it,” going on to indicating that Jesus is manifesting this reign in His own self disclosure and the actions of His ministry. Jesus ways of teaching and interactions with others, is shown as compassionate, gentle, direct and personal, as well as definitive and bold. As we also find in Ch. 3, “All that is happening before everyone’s eyes. The reign of God is breaking forth in the midst of the world and not only within people.” (51) And for Lohfink, this is taking place in the actual preaching, actions and life of Jesus Christ. Simply, we are personally and collectively and actively a part of establishing this “reign” right here, right now. A “reign” of mercy, compassion, forgiveness, self-giving, sacrificial love, as well as of justice and peace.
In the Synoptic gospels the event follows the death of John the Baptist and the return of the disciples from preaching and teaching. Mark6:39 writes, ‘the people sat on the green grass,’ suggesting spring-time, possibly April. John does not mention either event; John6:4, ‘the Passover was near.’ Passover, an important C1st Jewish feast, although not a family meal it involved going to the Temple and offering sacrifices. Therefore, the disciples would have returned, expecting to accompany Jesus to Jerusalem. ‘After this,’ John6:1, a Johannine term used to indicate passage of time.
A common topic of artwork throughout history has been the crucifixion of Christ. Since it is such a common topic, it makes it very easy to see how artwork changed and developed from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The painting on the left, The Crucifixion by Pietro Lorenzetti, shows the usual characteristics of a painting from the Middle Ages. The facial expressions are not varied or very in depth, Jesus and the other saints have the typical halo that is used very often, and the colors are mostly all bright, making nothing in particular stand out. The second painting, on the right, is by Caravaggio and is titled The Flagellation of Christ. There is an obvious shift from one painting to the next. Caravaggio’s piece is much more realistic.
The Last Supper by Leonardo is very different to Tintoretto’s representation of the same incident. The last supper is one of the most important occurrences which took place in the Christian religion such an important event that many have seen the need for the event visually recorded through art the two most famous of these representations are by far Tintoretto’s and Leonardo’s works. The Last Supper by Leonardo was created during the renaissance period and is a simple symbolic work with little emotion. Tintoretto however chose to represent the event in a surrealistic manner to give full impact; A way in which was typical of the art period in which he painted the work, the Mannerist period. The two works although essentially containing the same subject differ immensely. This difference is strongly evident through the artists contrasting use of colour, light, realism, technique perception and focal point/s.
...done. Giotto used tempera to paint this one. There are senses of desperation of the apostles, but it is not as compelling or moving as Leonardo’s. Giotto has bright colors, especially considering the era it was painted in. However, he doesn’t use landscape, there is no symmetry. When you look at it, you can tell who Christ is due to the golden halo around his head. However to decipher which one of the apostles is Judas, would be in vain. He used no symbolism, there is no depth. The background is done in a golden hue, not a natural life like version. The faces of the apostles do show a questioning gaze, but the diverse emotions are not there. Everyone is also sitting straight up around a table, there is no movement. I would have to say that while for its era this was a great painting, it is not a memorable one for me. Leonardo’s version is so much more.
Fresco is a type of wall painting like the Last Supper is, there are two types of frescos. There is buon fresco, this type of fresco is done while the plaster of the wall is still drying this way the plaster absorbs the pigments of the paint. But the artist must paint quickly because of the drying wall. The second type of fresco is fresco secco or dry fresco and this is what type of fresco the Last Supper is. This type of fresco is done after the wall has dried allowing the artist to take as long as they need. But the wall being dry and not allowing the paint pigments to absorb into the wall causes the painting to flake over time. This painting has a great meaning behind it. Leonardo da Vinci used flawless subject matter, form, content, and iconography to create his painting The Last Supper. Leonardo da Vinci painted his interpretation of what the Last Supper looked like through his work of art. In the center of his painting he painted Jesus Christ, the son of God, in the middle of all of his disciples. On each side of him there are an even number of six disciples sitting at a table pointing to themselves and to each other. The Last Supper is a giant 15feet tall by 29 feet wide painting created during the Renaissance period in the 15th century. Da Vinci was commissioned by Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza and his duchess Beatrice d’Este. Da Vinci begin creating the portrait in 1495 and completing it in 1498. It is said that the painting of Last Supper is not a true fresco. Da Vinci decided not to apply paint on a wet plaster he experimented by painting directly on a dry plaster using tempura and oil paint. He used this technique to capture the look of an oil painting, but even within his lifetime it began to wear off.
The first, and most obvious, difference between the two is the color. The work done by da Vinci is bright with lighter colors, and you can tell it takes place during the day. On the other hand, the work done by Tintoretto is dark-lightened only by fire, and the time of day is not as obvious. The painting's surrounding is almost in a bar-like place, and the picture is not as intimate as da Vinci's.
