In The Five People you Meet in Heaven, authored by Mitch Albom, there are many themes on life lessons. One that stuck out in particular was that love can heal all wounds. Eddie, an old war veteran and head of maintenance at Ruby’s Pier, dies while trying to save a young girl from being crushed by a falling roller coaster cart. Eddie goes to heaven, and with the help of five people who affected him on Earth, realizes that his life was not as worthless as he had thought. As the Blue Man states, “You may not have known the reason at the time, and that is what heaven is for. When Eddie was a child, the Blue Man was part of a sideshow act that was displayed at Ruby’s pier. At first, Eddie has no idea how the Blue Man affected his life. However, it is soon revealed that young Eddie was the cause of the Blue Man’s untimely death. One day, Eddie was playing ball with his brother Joseph. The ball rolled into the street, and little Eddie ran to get the ball, almost being hit by a car. The Blue Man who was driving the car had to swerve instantaneously, nearly hitting another car, and then finally colliding into the rear of a parked truck. As a result of this terrifying experience, the Blue Man has a fatal heart attack and dies. Once Eddie hears this significant account, he becomes infuriated and implores to be reprimanded for this unknowing sin. The Blue Man teaches him that there are no random acts in life, and that as a result of the Blue Man dying, Eddie was able to become a war veteran and live to age eighty-three. The Blue Man is able to make Eddie understand that while Eddie was the reason for his death, it serves its purpose because all lives intersect and impact each other in a meaningful way.
