Greg Mortenson back in Pakistan after Facing Conflicts from Three Cups of Tea Fraud
Greg Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea demonstrated many conflict types. It showed his struggle through problems such as problems with nature, other people, himself, and against society. Jon Krakauer's Three Cups of Deceit brought even more conflicts Mortenson's way as the truth was revealed about his Three Cups of Tea. What were these problems, and how did they affect Mortenson?
In Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Relin, we learn about Greg Mortenson's life work of building schools for the CAI and also how this all started. In Three Cups of Deceit by Jon Krakauer, we learn about how most of the conflicts in Three Cups of Tea, were made up, resulting in more conflicts for Greg Mortenson, his family, and co author. The first conflict, we come across in the story is Greg Mortenson, the person, climbing K2, nature. He never makes it to the top however, due to his conditions on the mountain. This is an example of Greg facing nature because he has to stop climbing K2
because of nature. This leads to the second conflict where Mortenson has conflicts against societies.

of Deceit both caused societies to pinned against Mortenson. On his way down the mountain, Mortenson states that he found a village called Korphe. Mortenson then states that he decided to build a village there in his sister Christa's memory. This would've made certain societies, like terrorist groups, mad at him for educating women. Krakauer later tells us that on Mortenson's way down the mountain, he didn't stumble upon Korphe, he stumbled upon the village of Khane. This pins more people, or societies against Mortenson because he lied about what really happened on the mountain, making another case of Mortenson against society. Three Cups of Deceit caused Mortenson and Krakauer against each other. Mortenson lost a lot of money, workers, and friends because of Krakauer and his book. That made one person, Mortenson, and another person, Krakauer, have a conflict. However, one could also say this is this is Mortenson's fault because he lied about Korphe and other parts of his story. However the Three Cups of Tea fraud didn't just put Mortenson against himself, but it also put his coauthor David Relin and his daughter Amira Mortenson against themselves.
David Relin was diagnosed with depression and he took his own life in November of 2012. Jon Krakauer's Three Cups of Deceit came out in 2011. The reason for his depression very likely could have been because people learned the truth of his and Mortenson's book. Amira Mortenson, Greg Mortenson's daughter, also had a similar case, but luckily she did not succeed. Greg Mortenson also became depressed after Relin's death, and he almost died of heart failure. They made themselves practiced unhealthy habits and hurt
themselves. Three Cups of Tea and Three Cups of Deceit both have many conflict types, and also caused conflict types for authors and their relatives. Greg Mortenson is just recovering from his near death experience, and is now back at work in the CAI, or Central Asia Institute, and is working on making new schools. Some people believe that Mortenson and Relin didn't deserve some of the conflicts they were presented with for lying because of all their work in the book, and in making the schools. Many people, however, call Mortenson a fraud and have stopped donating to the CAI since then. If Greg Mortenson does not do something soon, he and the CAI will not be able to help the young children in Pakistan anymore. Some conflicts couldn't have been avoided if Mortenson was just building schools, like Mortenson versus nature and societies. However, Relin and Mortenson both brought the other conflicts upon themselves by lying and stealing. Greg Mortenson is doing a great thing, but that does still not make it right for him to use company expenses for his personal use, and hopefully he knows that now so he can still help Pakistan's children. The central idea of “Guts is Gary Paulsen’s life before becoming a famous writer. Gary Paulsen used to live in a small farming town, where he volunteered to emergency calls. One emergency call was in Colorado Springs. It was for a man who was having a heart attack. Before passing away the man looked directly into Paulsen’s eyes. That is something Paulsen says he will never forget.

The way I see it, the world has a funny way of judging almost instantly how useful or popular something is. Football is an example of one of the many entertainment sources today and no one even thinks about the mental aspect of the games. Many people have very good reasoning that, without physical strength that no one could accomplish anything. I agree, but if I had to choose I would choose mental power. The mind many possibilities yet it is criticised for being used, some people have lots of natural talent, but eventually is no use, the mind creates strategy to win at sports and most important of all, it teaches us patience and discipline so we do the things we want to do. Although some people do idolize the strength of the body, nothing can
Children fool around every day with parental supervision always there to catch the youth when they are at risk of vulnerability. Without parental supervision, they need to be self-conscious of their own well-being. Once a child becomes an adult, they learn to take their own path through life with no safety net and to take responsibility for their own actions, unlike Chris McCandless. The novel, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer, exposes a cocky and arrogant, Chris McCandless, who is to blame for his own death, because he lives a life of taking risks, and depends on those that care for him to save him from the edge of disaster.
Bradbury tries to warn future generations about the dangers of suicide in his best selling novel Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury would have never thought that the world would lead to suicide in so many people. Mildred in the book Montag’s wife tries to commit suicide by taking a whole bottle of sleeping pills. When the two cynical hospital workers arrive with a machine that pumped Mildred’s stomach (later referred to
In 1983, Morgan Scott Peck published a book titled People of the Lie to diagnose what human evil is in a psychiatric perspective. This brings many arguments on whether human evil can be a form of disease that can be curable if examined or evil being a kind of certain personality profile. However, Peck’s own examination and what he considers evil behavior contradicts itself because, not only does he say certain actions or behaviors can be evil but he continues to say that the consistency of such behaviors actually makes for what he calls a sort of evil personality and an evil that he wants to regard as an illness. This paper will not support any argument but it will rather give a better understanding on what evil is in regards to narcissistic

In this essay I will be talking about how Crooks is presented in the novel and how Steinbeck does this. In the novel, Crooks is mainly presented as a victim. This is shown by the fact that he has to deal with racism and discrimination daily, for example "I could get you strung up on a tree so easily it ain't even funny." This quote shows that in the 1930s, people of colour were seen as a lower class compared to white people, and they were treated as such, the Ku Klux Klan were also very popular in the 1930s, and lynching and other punishments were seen as a big social event for a lot of people to attend.
Anthony Marston was the first victim on Indian Island, and not much of his personality was strongly shown. However, for the short amount of time that Marston was present in the story, he displayed an egotistical personality that was evident throughout the beginning of the story. In the text, And Then There Were None, it says, “Several young women looked at him [Marston] admiringly… Anthony Marston proceeded on his triumphal progress.” (Christie, 13) According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the definition of triumphal is “used to refer to something that celebrates a great victory”. This shows that Marston considered being admired by young women a victory, or success, and can only confirm that his excessive confidence in himself increased how
In “7 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Go to College and 4 Things To Do Instead”, Michael Price explains why students shouldn’t go to college and what they can do instead. Michael Price writes for the Huffington Post and is an entrepreneur, author, and master marketer. This article was published June 17, 2014. Price introduces the article by talking about his personal experience during his first day of college as a freshman. Price had been studying business outside of college, and found that his professors terminology of business was “flat out incorrect and in some cases totally outdated” (Price). He was angry that he was paying to be taught incorrect information. Price then goes on to introduce the seven reasons why people should avoid going to college. These reasons consist of how college
There seems to be a dominant view throughout Western Civilizations that we are all living in the best possible time to be alive so far. For many of us, that tends to be the case. In Western Civilizations, literacy rates are up, child mortality is low, race relations and the LGBTQIA movements have made strides, and technology has provided a level of convenience and excess not yet seen. These simple truths that we take for granted, however, are not simple truths all across the globe. In fact, many areas have suffered due to these advances. In the play, Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, a powerful narrative is told that serves as a commentary about the destruction of local cultures due to the intrusive nature of war and Western Civilization in that it
In Unwind, the American government, in order to end the controversy between pro choice and pro life parties, bans abortion but allows parents to send their unruly teenagers to camps to have their bodies torn down and used as “spare parts” for those in need. Unwholly takes place after Connor, Lev, and Risa, the main characters of the previous book, part their ways and new protagonists are introduced. These new characters, Starkey and Cam, escape with the help of Lev and begin a journey to prevent greedy corporate and political figures from continuing the Unwind program for their own personal gain.

Sekula explores how individuals, such as Galton and Bertillon, have employed photography to combine people into categorical classes, which then enable pseudoscientist to “discover” demarcations of deviancy and the subsequent “intentions and capabilities of the other” (12). The use of photography to construct an archive of people that is then used to divide, define, and regulate them makes me think of the motivation behind Bryan Stevenson’s second point from his incredible Wallenburg Lecture last night. Stevenson argues that we must change the narratives that permit the notion of racial differences to persist. Photos, and the generalizations ascribed to them by a defining (white) class, have allowed them to construct a deconstruction of our
Have you ever argued against a force that has been around longer than you, saying they know what is best and what they say goes, sound familiar? Well they are not necessarily wrong just that force does not fully give the evidence that prove themselves to be right. Those forces can be parents, bosses, or any type of influential people in life because it has become a norm for there to be someone that is right and someone that is wrong. In Carlo Ginzburg book, The Cheese and the Worms: the Cosmos of a 16th-Century Miller writes about Domenico Scandella, known as Menocchio. At first Menocchio, and many other people in medieval and in the early modern European world believed sole in the Christian faith, that Gods word is law. No one else can interpret
