The crucial feature of the conformity within society and many others is that conformity to the norm requires different people to take different actions and for actions to be conditional on some external signal. The idea that conformity to social norms may result in different individuals taking h equilibrium of some underlying game. A social norm can be thought of as a shared belief system of rules and standards that guide behavior. With the constant demand for conformity, obedience, and submissiveness from others, and knowing that the fear of possible sanctions of standing out makes people easy targets for manipulative minds. For some reason people tend to gravitate towards what others are doing. In Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, Never Let Me Go, the characters are no different from any other young person in that they tend to conform. Ishiguro shows this conformity to prove that conformity stems from the want to fit in and pure ignorance. For all to have friends and partners we need to often change our own personal beliefs or just to keep them unknown for a while to keep others happy. This could be because of pressures from groups, social situations, and positions of authority.
