Does it ever upset you when a person, who doesn’t play your sport, says that it is easy? As a person that plays volleyball for fun and competitively, some people might think that volleyball is effortless for me. Volleyball is a hard sport that requires a lot of focus and pain tolerance. Volleyball is game for two teams with 6 players, in which a volleyball is hit with your hands/arms over a high net. By making the ball reach the ground of the opponent’s side scores points. When playing volleyball, the players can only contact the ball three times each time the ball goes over. Many think volleyball is easy because it does not look as hard as it seems. The people watching don’t know about the angles of the platform, the timing of an approach …show more content…
In volleyball, there are 3 skills that are needed to be able to do. Players need to be able to pass the ball to the setter, attack the ball to place it in a good spot, and set the ball up for the hitters. Each of these skills have its place in volleyball and each are important.
One of the more simple skill to learn in volleyball is passing the ball. Without passing, your team cannot set up plays to score points. According to Ana Devine, in the article A Simple Guide to Volleyball, “passing is the most important skill in volleyball. If you don’t get your pass right, you have a low chance of delivering an effective attack because it makes the set and hit suffer.” The passing of the ball sets up the play for the ball. To pass a ball the players have to use their forearms to reflect the ball back toward the net. When people watch a volleyball game, they assume that passing a volleyball is very simple. The things that they don’t keep

Many skilled volleyball players in the high school/ college age group don’t know how to set. In A Simple Guide to Volleyball, Ana Devine states that “Setting is a necessary skill, but it’s hard to master.” The setter has the most important job on the court. A setter is the person that has the best hands to set the ball to each player to put away the ball. They control who gets to hit by deciding on which person to set. In volleyball, the setter has to be able to set each of their players to hit. When watching someone set, it may seem like the easiest skill in volleyball. However, when playing volleyball, knowing how far apart your hands need to be and how much power to use to push the ball is very important. When playing volleyball, the setter has to be able to get the the ball and set a player. When setting, your hands need to be a certain amount apart, and in a certain angle. Once the hand placement is correct, then thinking about the location and how much power to use is next. Thinking about the height of the set and how far to push it out is something else to also keep in mind. Setting is the hardest volleyball skill to master because there are so many things to keep in mind when setting and there are so many rules to
Volleyball is a great sport, it is very fun!! The attire for volleyball is a jersey, shorts, knee pads and special volleyball shoes. Some equipment that you need to play volleyball with, first of all you need a net, ball, 6 players on a court, court, referee,
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
I can watch volleyball all day because of how much precision, aggression, and mental toughness is needed. Spectators may not always see that side of the sport, but as a player, I know that it takes more than just a powerful hit or serve to be successful. Slamming the ball down other teams’ throats or hitting someone in the face so hard that they fall over (my personal favorite) are great, but, unfortunately, they’re not always the smartest choice. It’s the technique and the years of acquired intelligence of the game that keep me engaged and coming back for more.
Finally, Basketball and Volleyball are two very popular sports and they are played by both genders. They both have followers and fans, but one of them has a greater amount of fans than the other one. There are many similarities in these sports such as the audience, followers and fans, and that both sports are played by boys/men and girls/women. Despite of having these similarities, they also have differences that distinguish them from each other, too. Basketball is a recognized sport from around the world and its popularity has been growing over the years compared to Volleyball, that is not very popular and it is not a game that people would choose to play with others. In addition to this difference, the physical contact in these sports is important, too.
Volleyball is one of the biggest team sports there are. It is big in the summer olympics and all around the world men and women play it every day. The game of volleyball was originally called “mintonette”, it was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895 at Springfield College in Massachusetts, they made it along with basketball. In 1957 volleyball was officially an Olympic sport, the first games were held in Tokyo 1964 and the first beach volleyball games were in 1996 Atlanta. In London 2012, USA got 12 silver medals. In the Olympics, the Soviet Union has won the most medals. The best country right now is Brazil, winning gold medals in London 2012. One of the best volleyball players from Minnesota right now is Tori Dixon who played for the Gophers
Illustrating the arrangement of players mathematically requires that one understand the standard dimensions of a volleyball court. According to Lithio and Webb (2006), a standard volleyball court resembles a rectangle, which is 59 ft long by 29 ft, 6 in. wide. A net, centrally placed, separates the court into two squares. Stretching from the end of every side of the volleyball court is an area from which the ball is served, at least 6 ft wide. A player can stand in any region of this area to serve (consider figure 1) (Lithio & Webb, 2006).
The goal of this sport is to send the ball over the net so the rival team you are up against are incapable of returning the ball or blocking it from touching the ground in their court (“Volleyball - Mr Haering.”). Both teams have three chances of returning the ball. The object of this game seems pretty simple, enough. Yet, it requires a lot of physical contact, skills, and moves amongst the players. Players must be skilled at digging, diving, and swerving. Digging happens when a player makes a save from a very difficult spike. Diving, on the other hand, occurs when a player dives for a ball on defense. If these moves are not orchestrated properly, concussions have the potential to arise. In the medical-sport journal article entitled “Concussions Among 20 High School Sports”, studies were conducted to find patterns of concussion injuries. In

Next to the court, under the shade of a large oak tree, sits Ali. Ali is a man of about 55 who attends the gathering every week. He used to be a professional volleyball player, and now spends his time watching the game at a youth level, and giving advice to novices and experienced players alike. He watches pensively from under the shade of the large branches, quietly munching on his turkey sub-sandwich. Every few minutes Ali yells wisely to a young player. He says, “Keep your jump approach in stride,” and “Remember to cup your hand before you make contact, then follow through.”
Tennis is a sport that many people love to play. It is not the hardest sport in the world to learn. When playing against someone, it is called a match. Tennis can be played one on one or a doubles match. The main object of the game is to hit the ball over the net, inside of the lines so that the opponent can't get to it. There are two lines about two feet parallel to each other that outline the court. In a singles match, the inner line is the out of bound line, while the outer line is out of bounds in a doubles match. If you want to play, take a look at my two favorite tennis players because they are masters at serving and scoring, a few key aspects of the game.
Hearing the loud “thump” as the ball hits the racket is extremely satisfying, especially if your life now revolves around this fast-paced and exhilarating sport. Tennis is an outdoor game played by two individuals or pairs of players on a clay or grass court that’s divided by a low net. Each game is played with tennis rackets and small, yellow elastic balls. Tennis was first introduced in Wales and the United Kingdom in 1873 by “Major Walter Wingfield” (tennistheme.com). While most sports are easy to pick up, tennis takes extreme dedication to learn how to play the game, to perfect the amount of technique it takes, as well as its great impact on one’s personal life.
Passing is perhaps one of the most important components of the sport. A game would be impossible without the assistance of passing and team work. To successfully carryout a pass, many factors have to be taken into account. In order to begin a pass, first a player must exert a force on the basketball. Once the ball leaves the hands of the player, it becomes a projectile. A projectile is acted upon by two independent forces: the x and y components. The x component is the force exerted on the ball by the player while the y component is pulled by the force of gravity, -9.8m/s². As a result of the independent components, the ball will travel in a downward parabolic path, or trajectory. Since the ball travels a downward path, the player throws the ball towards a target located a little higher than where the player wishes the ball would go in order to compensate for the downward path. Another factor that affects the successfulnes...
I don’t think that the medium-skilled student, Madison benefited greatly from only playing full volleyball games during class because just like the low-skilled student, she didn’t get as many touches on the ball as the high-skilled students. Madison could have used more drills like bumping to a target and setting to a target. Drills could have helped her focus on her form, so that her bumps and sets went to the target. During the game it is hard to focus on just form because there are many other factors that the student has to worry about. Also I think adding rules to the volleyball games to incorporate more students could have benefited the medium-skilled and low-skilled students.
Through participation in skill learning and game play during the volleyball unit, this report will observe and analyse the characteristics of skilled performer through feedback in technique that was given by my fellow class mates and the coach and develop and participate in training activities that could correct these weaknesses.
