In Michael Gow’s Drama, “Away” and Gabor Csupo’s iconic film, “Bridge to Terabithia”, all the characters are faced with challenges and each uncovers a new discovery. Leslie has helped Jesse have a self-awakening through Terabithia. She has helped Jesse use his imagination, “close your eyes but keep your mind wide open”. Jesse closes his eyes and as he opens them, the audience is welcomed to a long-shot of Terabithia which symbolises that Jesse’s imagination has awoken and Leslie discovers that she has the power to change others. In the scene after this, we are introduced to Leslie’s solique where she is referring to life after death. She speaks about swimming past the wrinkled rocks and swims into the blue sea, the blue sea being a better place, “I check my air, I don’t have as much time to see everything, but that's what makes it so special”. This is significant as it is stating to the audience that she doesn’t have much life left to make discoveries, but the special thing is that she can help Jesse with his self-awakening. The use of the solique is to demonstrate dramatic irony, as the audience now realise that Leslie doesn’t have much time left and is going to die. Due to the help of Leslie, Jesse was able to endure through a series of events that led to a self-awakening that helped him overcome the disapproval of his father, a creative discovery of his artistic skills and spiritual discovery of love with Leslie. Like Tom, Leslie was able to discover her power of healing and somewhat sacrifice herself for others and through the introduction of Terabithia to Jesse, he was able to discover a new life like
