he had ran down to the ball and threw open the doors as he screamed, “Please! You have got to help me! I think my mother and father have been shot!” DeFeo then fell to his knees and started to cry, as if he had no idea what had actually happened to his parents, but, it made the people at the bar think he was innocent because they ran home with him (Walter, 2016). They arrived at the DeFeo home only to go in and witness what was a mass murder. But, they had no idea how it happened or who was responsible. Joe Yeswit was one of the men who ran to the DeFeo home to see if he could help, he is also the man who called the police to the address of the DeFeo’s (Walter, 2016). As terrifying as this all was, the neighbors still never seemed to notice anything suspicious going on outside their homes. Police believe the motive for the killings was the $200,000 in insurance that DeFeo would receive if his family was dead (Kaplan, Kaplan, and Martin, 1995). After a long, mere, forty hours of waiting for a plea, DeFeo plead guilty to killing his family (Holzer, 1979), and stated “Once I started, I just could not stop” (Walter, 2016). It was later brought up in undiscovered evidence, that there could have been a second shooter in the DeFeo case (Local, 2012). There were several amounts of evidence pointing to the fact that even with DeFeo’s family being drugged, there was no way that someone did not wake up. It is said that they found a pillowcase in the trash can near the water behind the house, which was more than likely to be used to move a gun without getting fingerprints on it (Local, 2012). There were several reports on this and some people have even said that it was false and DeFeo did this on his own. However, “A team of underwater archeologists found a gun in the canal behind the house” (Local, 2012), which makes this
