Abstract: Objecting to modern mainstream educational system, the Amish people have the unique eduction. They end their formal school learning at the eighth grade, but it does not mean that they do not care about educating their children. Conversely, the Amish attach great importance to education. Their leaning career throughout the life, and focus more on the Amish culture. What’s more, their unique education is suitable for them, and this is why they can survive in the complicated times with their own way.

And the first is practicality, Amish economic origins are mainly agriculture as well as craftsmanship-oriented and manual, and Amish emphasize apprenticeship and hands-on learning. To the Amish farming land, raising livestock, and growing their own food are the will of God. To the Amish, farming is not merely a job but a sacred lifestyle as written in the Scriptures. Furthermore, the Amish are firm believers of hard work, responsibility, simple living, and cooperation among the communities. Chief Justice Burger wrote: “it is neither fair nor correct to suggest that the Amish are opposed to education beyond the eighth grade level. What this record shows is that they are opposed to conventional formal education of the type provided by a certified high school because it comes at the child's crucial adolescent period of religious development.”, and it shows the Amish end their formal eduction at eighth grade is for religious development. What’s more, the formal eduction which beyond grade eight does not have deep explanation about their religion and even has some acknowledge country to Christian values.
