There are multiple types of dances such as ballet, tap, and jazz. Each type began in different places around the world and various time periods. Records show that some began as far back as the 17th century. Many of these dances have gained popularity in the United States.
First founder of Dance
No one really knows when dance first started but Most likely the beginning of dance goes back as far as cave paintings. The first purpose of dance was probably a ritual, dance and music begin as partners in service of ritual. Dancing usually expresses your mood, that is how the ancient egyptians did it they just turned on music that expressed their mood then danced.

Choreographers create dance movements performed by dancers. Choreography is also know as a dance routine, they can be short or long.
Competition
Dance competitions are when dancers compete against other dance groups in their level. Dance groups perform many different types of dances but mostly ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop. While the dancers are performing the are being judged by how good they did, were they together ,and was it with the music. Finally the judges will decide the ranking of the groups, if you got 1st 2nd or 3rd place.
Dance Notation
Dance notation is the recording of dance through written symbols. Dance positions are recorded on paper in 2-D. Dance combinations that are horizontal or vertical strokes were recorded by using numbers.
What did dancers wear in the 17th century?
In the 17th century dancers traditionally wore a dress or a skirt. With wigs and jewelry, male and sometimes females wore a leather mask to cover their facial expressions.

It is distinguished from folk and country dance. In the 21st century ballroom dance was present in many parts of the world, professional dance exhibitions and dance competitions. Ballroom dance refers to a set of partner dances, which started in germany and people have enjoyed it socially and competitively around the globe. It is performed on stage, on Tv, and at invitational events. Many of these dance steps were adapted from folk traditions. These dancers were required to dress formally, and dancers were performed with live music. The ballroom dance program for schools started in 1994, With one 5th grade class with 30 students, and has grown to more than 7000 students in 68 New York City schools.
