The Food Web is a system which exhibits the flow of energy between organisms ranging from the main source to producers to consumers and eventually to decomposers. The Food web is also comprised of multiple food chains in a particular ecosystem, thus creating a larger system. Ultimately, food web is a crucial aspect of the ecosystem due to the numerous of connections between organisms. The system is also important to humans, as alterations within the chain can impact these stakeholders. With arising issues impacting the Amazon such as deforestation and climate change, it is crucial for these threats to be prevented as soon as it possesses the ability to introduce chaos into the system. For these reasons, the Amazon Rainforest becomes significant …show more content…
The Amazon is home to 390 billion Trees and 16,000 species. Figure 1 is the Food chain of species located in the Amazon. As seen on figure 1, the chain is displayed in a manner where organisms are arranged from their group (producer, consumer or decomposer). Arrows are also visible representing the flow of energy showing the direction of the energy being transferred from one organism to the other. One example is that Toucan feeds on Mango Tree, thus why having the arrow pointing from the tree to the Toucan, the Toucan is then hunted by its predator, the Caiman, hence why the arrow is pointed to the Caiman, this structure is evident throughout the food web as it illustrates the flow of energy. The food web system is an essential factor for examining the behaviours and interactions of the organisms such as prey to predator relationships becoming crucial for keeping the whole system …show more content…
From the year 2001-2012 the amount of area affected by deforestation was believed to be 1.7 million hectares. However, deforestation poses more threat as it is one of the leading causes of carbon emissions. With numbers of factors already playing a role to climate change, deforestations will only influence the trends of climate change to reach at an alarming rate, therefore, actions must be taken. Climate change is caused by carbon emitted the air world wide, for this reason, to prevent climate change from worsening, it is crucial for carbon emission to be monitored. Fortunately, numerous amount of renewable energy have been invented. To reduce carbon emission, the world must convert to 100% renewable energy to have a massive decrease within climate change. On the other hand, deforestation is being tackled with policy changes within the Amazon. Reports form WWF suggest that the government is creating a plan “zero net deforestation’, to raise awareness of the effects of deforestation, moreover, they are also recognising the rights of the indigenous people and local communities in the Amazon. Another action is the facilitation of the rainforest through cross border dialogue, reducing rates and conservation areas on the Amazon. Stakeholders, In particular humans who take part in illegal logging are

This policy memo addresses the development and expansion of the cattle ranching industry in Brazil, which has contributed to the mass deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon in the last 40 years. It exposes the regional and global consequences to deforestation and provides strategies for the Brazilian government to sustainably manage cattle ranching industries while protecting the future of the Amazon. The rainforest ecosystem is an immense reserve of natural recourses that is far more valuable than the beef produced on Brazilian cattle ranches. Not only does the rainforest create habitat for up to 65% of the world’s biodiversity, but when harvested sustainably, it provides humans with an abundance of spices, foods, oils, medicines and vital research areas (NEWMAN).
Thus, deforestation is one of the biggest problems in the world that people have to consider because it has three main long term effects: land desertification, species extinction and climate change. The research paper will discuss and consider the long-term negative effect on the Amazon rainforest which is caused by deforestation. First, the paper will present the causes and effects of land deforestation. Another consideration is endangered species extinction that could affect the Amazon’s biodiversity. Finally, the paper will focus on how climate change and global warming affect the Amazon and what people should do in order to save the forests and solve those problems.
Governments in these countries need to stop thinking of forests as a renewable resource. The rate at which they are harvesting these areas drives them beyond the boundaries of sustainability. The efforts required by reforestation may not initially be cost effective, but it will result in not only the survivability of the environment, but of the country’s economy. Widespread awareness of these ideas will help fight against the natural human tendency towards instant gratification and short-term goals. Different methods of logging can be utilized to allow the rainforests to survive and regrow naturally and at a sustainable

The controversy over logging, and more specifically clearcutting, is not a new issue in America. Ever since the 1920's and 1930's, when this nation started to become conscious of conservation, citizens have weighed the consequences of logging. Critics have questioned whether the increase in jobs, tax dollars, and economic growth was worth the destruction of forest lands. Regardless of what they believe today, the logging industry had become so efficient that by the late 1980's nearly 100,000 acres of federal land had been clearcut since the industry began. Logging technology has advanced rapidly in terms of speed, to meet the increasing demands for lumber, paper, and other products derived from trees. This in turn has greatly impacted the environment by severely degrading watersheds, leading to increased soil erosion, the diminution in the quality of drinking water, and the decline of fish stocks, among many other consequences. In this essay I will examine the progression of logging equipment throughout the 19th and 20th centuries and discuss how these changes in technology have not only changed the relationship of those who work in the industry, but also haw this has changed the wider relationship of society and nature.
Deforestation is a widely used term, but one with different meanings. Disturbance deforestation refers to all man made disturbances that alter a forest, these are the most common. This argumentative essay discusses the positive and negative aspects of deforestation. In the first part of the essay the pro arguments of deforestation will be discussed. For example, the issue of Global population and how forests are being used, land use and the ways forests contribute, wood use, forest growth, destruction and the reasons for cutting down the trees. The second half of the essay will cover the issues that are harmful to the environment because of deforestation. Many environmental issues take place everyday; a big question that arises, is if the global economy will ever finds middle on the issue of forest thinning. If deforestation was used only in the most crucial of times, the world might become a better place.
...food web or food chain that is made up of producers, herbivores, consumers, and omnivores. Food webs show the connections animals have with each other on who eats whom. The Amazon has many species of animals that are all connected somehow but using only a small handful of producers and consumers can make it easier to understand and show how they are connected in some way. A macaw and a fruit bat eat orchids but the emerald tree boa will soon eat macaw and the fruit bat. Across the Amazon, a spider monkey can be eating from a banana tree or the jaguar will eat the Bengal bamboo then the spider monkey. Soon the jaguar can be patiently waiting for the next victim, which will be a parrot that is eating off the same banana tree, as the spider monkey was not long ago. Every animal is connected somehow and creating a food web is the best way to show and easy to understand.
The Proboscis Monkey is a mammal that is only found in a relatively small amount of area in the world. It is a odd looking animal known most for its gargantuan nose that hangs over its mouth. The Proboscis Monkey is well adapted to living in the rainforest, but when put in other biomes, it would have a rough time surviving. The only way it would be able to live in a new biome is it would have to adapt to its surroundings. If the Proboscis Monkey was somehow relocated to the Savannah, the Proboscis Monkey would have to undergo many different adaptations in order to survive in their new biome.
Nowadays deforestation is the one of the most important and controversial environmental issues in the world. Deforestation is cutting down, clearing away or burning trees or forests. Particularly tropical rainforests are the most waning type of forests because of its location in developing countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, India, central African countries and Brazil. Deforestation rate in those regions is high enough to worry about, because of large economic potential of forest areas. As the result of causes such as agriculture land expansion, logging for timber, fire blazing and settling infrastructure there might be serious impacts in future. For instance, extinction of endemic species of animals and plants which will be feral, increase of greenhouse gas emissions which may lead to global warming and consecutive catastrophes, destruction of home for indigenous residents which is considered as violation of human rights. Some people can argue with these drawbacks telling that deforestation have more valuable benefits such as growth of economics, production of food and providing better opportunities for life for poor families. However, these benefits are quite temporary and government of that countries and world organisations tries to halt deforestation proposing several solutions. Deforestation problem is especially acute in the Brazilian Amazon, where its rate is much high comparing with other regions. This paper will describe world-wide rainforests, causes and effects of deforestation, and evaluate possible solutions of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.
In documents Why is the Amazon rainforest important and Animal Food Web, they both lay out reasons why environmental impact is important. Document E specifically tells us how burning trees releases carbon dioxide and that the Amazon rainforest is responsible for 20% of the world's
In South America lies the largest and most wondrous rainforest in the world, the Amazon Rainforest. This 1.4 billion acre forest represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests, and comprises the largest and most bio-diverse tract of rainforest in the world. Ten percent of all known species on the planet are found in this rain forest, most of which have yet to be discovered. For the past century, the Amazon has been gradually decreasing in size due to agricultural expansion, ranching, infrastructure projects, energy exploration and illegal logging. In its current state, the Amazon is losing land equal to the size of the state of Delaware every year.
The Amazon Rainforest is the world's largest tropical rainforest that we have today on our planet. It covers a wide range expanding almost entirely across from East to West of South America. It is most famous for its broad biodiversity and includes the famous Amazon River that is home to rare and diverse species. Today, the Amazon Rainforest is under threat of complete deforestation and has greatly lost more than half of its tropical rainforest due to cattle ranching, soy bean farming, sugar cane plantations, palm oil and biofuel agriculture. The indigenous people are doing their best to fight against the government to protect their land and conserve the rainforest but without capital finance, it is seeming to be an impossible project.
The Rainforest Alliance has made various achievements when it comes to the impact they have had on the environment. They have aided the enhancement of various wildlife habitats, minimized invasive species and helped prevent forest fires. In El Salvador it has been noted that migrating birds prefer the Rainforest Alliance certified farms over others, these farms safe guard the various migration routes for wildlife; as well as the countries more than five hundred different bird species. These farms also have a constant richness in soil co...
Deforestation is the amputation of trees from forest areas more swiftly than they can be replanted or regenerate naturally. The fact that trees play an incredibly momentous part in stabilising climate, atmospheric composition and soil structure, removing trees rapidly becomes a major problem. There are numerous reasons behind the felling of trees by mankind. The Amazon basin is a prime example of humans exploiting rainforests. Within this tropical rainforest lie a vast variety of tree species, with many uses, giving humans even more reason to exploit this area.
