Am I Dreaming?
I.
I awoke from a dream. A dream so realistic that I had no idea if it was real or fake. I had to grasp reality, as my alarm clock buzzed with anger as if it was mad as well, for it wanted to know the answer too. My mind was so mixed up and the screaming voice of my sister yelling at me to get ready for school was not helping. I had to make a choice. A choice of life or death. A choice of , was it true or not, did my best friend get dumped by her boyfriend of two years and I picked the choice of yes.
They were the perfect couple, everyone loved them, such a shame. Was what I was thinking as I walked through the hallways of high school. I didn't know if I was the only one who knew the news and if so I didn't want to be the first one to break it. For if I broke it, that one person who knew the exciting new discovery would spread it like wildfire through the hallways of high school were students ate up any new news bad or good. However, one question still burned through my head was I the only one who knew?
As the day passed everything was normal and it seemed that no one was really upset about this new news, not even my close friends, they were all fine. I started to get confused, I wanted some answers and answers was what I was going to get or so I thought… I walked into my third hour English class head held high and ready to talk about Jennifer and Cameron. Being able to dream shows us the vast intelligence our brain has and the ability to demonstrate creativity, solving problem, love for others, self issues, maybe even the future and many more things. We can experience actually flying during lucid dreaming and fight a fear in a nightmare but the one thing that may help us the most is getting to know our self through our dreams. Don't be afraid to dream...in real life and when you're sleeping because you never know one day that dream can become a possibility or help you in the future. So next time when you wake up from a dream ask yourself what does it really mean because dreaming is a never ending puzzle of life. Dreaming is something that without it solving our problem would be much harder.
To begin with, I believe that it is worth it to dream because it gives a person a goal. In the book “We Beat The Streets” George,Sampson, and Ramek had a dream to go to college, they were the first ones to do it in their area. They were like superstars to some people but to others they were weird and unliked. This shows that someone can achieve a goal no matter how bad the circumstances.can achieve a goal.
Everything that is real is a lie except your thoughts. If someone approached you with this statement you would assume they are insane and you would try to convince them that you are real and the world is real. As you begin to try to prove reality you begin to question yourself, under what circumstances do we understand reality? As we acknowledge what we believe to be realities, we form conclusions and assurances about our own existence and the existence of everything around us. Because our existence is assured through our perception of reality, we believe to be part of an existing real world. The existence of the real world is based upon belief and cannot be proven. The existence of the real world originates from our brains. Reality is dependent of our perception, experiences, senses, and reasoning.

Have you ever woken up feeling like you’ve been to the end of the world and back, yet never left your bed? Or maybe you might have had all your worst fears realized when you were asleep? In that case, you were probably dreaming. Dreams are a “series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep” (The American Heritage High School Dictionary, 2004). Everyone has about three to seven dreams a night, but it has been estimated that we forget up to 95 percent of them ( Stevens 2011). Although no one really knows why we dream every night, it’s more likely than not a way for our brain to help us solve problems.
Oprah Winfrey once said, “The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.” But, what actually is a dream and what do dreams really have to do with one’s everyday life? In essence, a dream is a series of mental images and emotions occurring during a slumber. Dreams can also deal with one’s personal aspirations, goals, ambitions, and even one’s emotions, such as love and hardship. However, dreams can also give rise to uneasy and terrible emotions; these dreams are essentially known as nightmares.
This paper involves how the brain and neurons works. The target is to display the brain and neurons behavior by sending signals. The nervous system that sends it like a text message. This becomes clear on how we exam in the brain. The techniques show how the brain create in order for the nerves about 100 billion cells. Neurons in the brain may be the only fractions of an inch in length. How powerful the brain could be while controlling everything around in. When it’s sending it signals to different places, and the neurons have three types: afferent neurons, efferent neurons, and the interneurons. In humans we see the old part of emotions which we create memories plus our brain controls heart beating, and breathing. The cortex helps us do outside of the brain touch, feel, smell, and see. It’s also our human thinking cap which we plan our day or when we have to do something that particular day. Our neurons are like pin head. It’s important that we know how our brain and neurons play a big part in our body. There the one’s that control our motions, the way we see things. Each neuron has a job to communicate with other neurons by the brain working network among each cell. Neurons are almost like a forest where they sending chemical signals. Neurons link up but they don’t actually touch each other. The synapses separates there branches. They released 50 different neurons.

Dreams have fascinated humans since the beginning of time. The recorded history of dream interpretation dates back to 3000-4000 B.C. with the Sumerians in Mesopotamia. They documented their dreams on clay tablets. People back then saw the dream world as an extension of reality, but that it was a more powerful realm. Furthermore, they believed that when they dream, their souls would leave their body during sleep and travel to the dream world.
The human body is divided into many different parts called organs. All of the parts are controlled by an organ called the brain, which is located in the head. The brain weighs about 2. 75 pounds, and has a whitish-pink appearance. The brain is made up of many cells, and is the control centre of the body. The brain flashes messages out to all the other parts of the body.
While we sleep, our brains are able to play out scenes in our mind through our dreams. However, dreaming does not fully expose our cognitive potential. We are only able to watch those scenes while dreaming rather than fully participate. Lucid dreaming gives us not only the ability to participate in our dreams, but allows us to determine what will happen in them and manipulate the entire plot. Lucid dreaming is defined as “the experience of dreaming with consciousness and awareness that one is dreaming (Melton 940).” For a dream to be lucid, the dreamer must realize that they are not in reality or the physical world, but that they are in a dream. Once this realization occurs, the dreamer is able to do whatever they want and manipulate the plot of the dream. The idea of lucid dreaming has existed since the eighth century when Tibetan Buddhists practiced forms of yoga designed to remain fully conscious during a dreaming state (LaBerge, 21). It wasn’t until the 1900’s that scientists began to study sleep cycles and to determine how they affected dreaming and lucidity. These studies led to the development of techniques that would allow people to lucid dream on demand in order for scientists to further study lucidity. Researchers were able to use these techniques and apply them to therapies and treatments for patients with sleeping disorders in an attempt to use lucid dreaming to improve their sleep quality. While further benefits of lucid dreaming are still being studied, current research shows that it can be a useful skill to develop and can be a therapeutic tool for people suffering from sleep disorders.
Everyone 's dreams are unique, therefore there are hundreds of different types of dreams and lucid dreams. To name a few, the most common are controllable dreams, awareness dreams, therapeutic dreams and the unproven Mutual Dreaming. Controllable lucid dreams are more commonly heard of from people who have had experience with lucidity several times before. This is because the art of lucid dreaming is not easy to master, especially not in one night. It takes practice, recording dreams, and especially hourly reality checks in the real world. Awareness Dreams are the most common. In this type of dream, the dreamer is only able to witness the events play out before them. They are still aware of the world around them, able to control all five of their senses but are only there for the ride. These types are usually induced by complete accident using the Dream Initiated Lucid Dream form. Therapeutic Lucidity is the event in which the dreamer is actively attempting to conquer fears, phobias, trauma and more. Dreams are necessary. Without dreams, there will be no ambition to chase. There will be no goal to reach. We won't have anything to aim for. We will all be nothing without dreams. Not having dreams is like chasing a traceless murder. It is like following an invisible shadow. It is a dreadful goose chase. We must know what we want to do and follow that ambition. We can’t achieve anything in life without goals, and for these goals, we need to dream.
In the past few decades we have seen how computers are becoming more and more advance, challenging the abilities of the human brain. We have seen computers doing complex assignments like launching of a rocket or analysis from outer space. But the human brain is responsible for, thought, feelings, creativity, and other qualities that make us humans. So the brain has to be more complex and more complete than any computer. Besides if the brain created the computer, the computer cannot be better than the brain. There are many differences between the human brain and the computer, for example, the capacity to learn new things. Even the most advance computer can never learn like a human does. While we might be able to install new information onto a computer it can never learn new material by itself. Also computers are limited to what they “learn”, depending on the memory left or space in the hard disk not like the human brain which is constantly learning everyday. Computers can neither make judgments on what they are “learning” or disagree with the new material. They must accept into their memory what it’s being programmed onto them. Besides everything that is found in a computer is based on what the human brain has acquired though experience.
