Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is an organization that I first learned about my senior year of high school. The Vice Principal of my high school, Mr. Woody, is a member of the organization Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and the first time I saw him wear his letters, I began to ask more about the organization. From that point on, I began to do research on Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, while also noticing there were other members in my community. Many of these members were already individuals who I looked up to. This enhanced my interest in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, because I saw the organization as a commonality amongst my idols. Furthermore, the thought of becoming a part of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated began to mean many things to me. …show more content…
First, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated means to me a brotherhood of well-developed men who aspire to achieve greatness in life. Growing up I did not have brothers and the friends I have met throughout the years did not all aspire the way I do. I had desires to become the best that I could be at whatever I did, so some of the people I would hang with said that I was an overachiever or a try hard individual. Because of this, I wish to surround myself with individuals who look to constantly better themselves and strive for success. I know that individuals like this will help me better myself as well and help me excel, rather than bring me down. Second, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated means to me a group of leaders who I wish to join. I know that a group of leaders who help one another is one of the best way to further develop one who is already a leader. Many men who I associate myself with do not possess the desire to take charge and lead others. Taking the leadership role is very important, especially in the black community today. Third, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated means to me men who aspire to develop the communities they reside in. I enjoy helping the community, because I see it as a way of bettering the future of the youth. The amount of struggles the black community has gone through, since the earliest days of slavery, demonstrate not only how far the community has come, but also it demonstrates how much more work needs to be done. I plan on becoming an impactful figure on the community in order to help facilitate its growth to new heights. Lastly, and most importantly, a group of men whom of which I would like to call my brothers. Growing up, I never truly had brothers who I could call my own. I have two half-brothers. One brother I have never met a day in my life and I only know what he looks like from a picture he took when he was four years old. My second and oldest half-brother I encountered less than 5 times in my life. My parents did not believe he was a good influence because of his use of drugs and lack of motivation to succeed in life so they made sure he would stay as far away from me as possible. I see Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated as the set of brothers who I can call my own.
Brothers who I can spend my time with and enjoy brotherly experiences I have missed out on for my whole life. Also, I look at Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated as an organization that can help me further develop myself. I see the organization as a way to strengthen my weakness and further develop my strengths in order to grow as a person. Becoming a part of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated would mean a new level of excellence for myself. Moreover, I desire to become a part of the Delta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated because of relationships I have developed with current brothers of the chapter. Also, from learning more about the Delta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, I am fascinated by the work ethic and ability of brothers to balance social, academic, and community responsibilities without falling short in any category. Moreover, I see the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated as individuals who strive each and every day to enhance their character in order to become the leaders of tomorrow our community
needs.
While reading Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, I learned more about the inner workings of Greek Life. I learned that the odds of me finding a sorority are so slim due to my independent and different personality. While I am not good at sticking up for myself, something this book has made me feel is crucial to blend in and conform to an ideal to fit into a sorority, I am too opinionated. There are not many sororities (at least shown in Pledged) that welcome girls who are different, preferring to stay similar. For example, each pledge class would soon like identical within a few months of pledging. Another thing I learned about is the careful planning and manipulation that occurs throughout sororities,
At a young age I knew as an African American woman through activism, educational autonomy, and community service, I can thrive through the wake of extreme poverty and turmoil faced by the people of my neighborhood of East New York. My interest in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. The ladies of this organization exude exemplary character who excel in sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, and integrity. Throughout my life I always encouraged myself to have these ideal characteristics without knowing that one day I would be pursuing membership in a prestigious organization, whom upheld the key principles “greater service, greater progress. The first
I am interested in joining Alpha Kappa Psi because I wish to be a part of l ink minded people striving for academic and professional success. In addition, I would love to be a part of a family that will support me in all aspects of my life.
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. was founded January 13, 1913 at Howard University by 22 Undergraduates. These 22 women were members of an organization known as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated., but branched off because of different views. The founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. wanted more than a social organization and was interested in making the sorority more political. Scholastic and political activism was important to the founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. The first political act the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. participated in was the Women’s Suffrage March. The Women’s Suffrage March was a march that occurred in Washington D.C. because Women were not
Women of Delta, especially the ladies of the Alpha Tau Chapter, excel excessively in everything they accomplish and partake in from what I have seen on Southern Universities campus and in the community. Their outstanding work ethics, academics success, social friendliness, dominating attitudes, and constant need to help others is just a few explanations why I would be honored to be a lovely member of ...
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to promote sisterhood in colleges to assure a bond between college women, and the sorority leads by being an example for other college women to follow. Alpha Kappa Alpha also promotes higher education and positive self-esteem to younger women. Alpha Kappa Alpha also gives back to the community in community service that could range from educating our women on relevant topics to just lending a hand in the community. I want to contribute to this purpose at Mississippi State University and back in my hometown.
To me the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is to promote sisterhood and unity, serve the community, and build lifelong bonds. Therefore, I am seeking membership in order to be a part of a sisterhood that
This essay is just a brief summary of why I desire to be an Alpha man and the contributions I will bring to Alpha Phi Alpha. As previously stated my fully expounded upon desires would greatly exceed the limits of this essay, so if I had K.I.S.S it into just three words, I would choose; learn, grow, and share. However, I am strong believer of deeds over words, so this essay will serve only as mental fodder and the main course will come in the form of my actions.
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, promote unity and genuine friendships among college women, aid in issues concerning girls and women in order to come up with solutions to eliminate or ease the circumstances they may face, maintain an ongoing interest in college life, while also being of service to all mankind. This sorority has not only empowered women to help others, but it
That standard of academic excellence pushes you to become a great student, “if students want to become affiliated with academic discourse communities, or even if they want to succeed in school, they have to make considerable sacrifices,” (Johns 326). Johns’ outline of success academic discourse communities is on point. Fraternities are academic communities along with social. Much sacrificed time has to be taken to be apart and contribute to fraternity, for example a leadership role. A fraternity offers many opportunities of leadership opportunities.
If I am chosen as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I will work hard to uphold the reputation and exceed the standards that those before me have set. I believe becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. means joining a group of highly educated women that together I believe are capable of facilitating the type of change that is imperative in today’s society. It is my hope that I will be accepted as a member and be afforded the opportunity to take part in that change. I look forward to hearing from you regarding my request to join your
Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. has played a large part in my life in a short amount of time; this organization has granted me the opportunity to attend college through a scholarship. The scholarship that I was granted was through the alumni chapter in Fayetteville; it required letters of recommendations, a transcript, an application, and an essay on what I believe “Achievement in every field of human endeavor” means. Once I received the call that was telling me to meet the representative to receive a letter stating whether I received the scholarship. When I opened the letter, two tickets fell out for the Kappa Scholarship ball, and when I read the letter, it stated that I have been picked to receive the scholarship from Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. The weekend of the scholarship ball, my mother planned a graduation trip for a couple of friends of mine and I to go Myrtle Beach. So the day of the scholarship ball, I drove from Myrtle Beach to Fayetteville to attend the scholarship ball; once I arrived at the ball, I was greeted by many men of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. When I sat down at the table that they reserved for me and the three other scholarship awardees, I was approached by many men of the fraternity. That night was very spectacular and eventful; the men who had presented me scholarship seemed down to earth, sociable guys. They treated me with so much respect, and talked to me about how I see my future and told me what I could do to be a successful African-American in today’s society. These men set an example of accomplishment and in the short time that we had together, they instilled in me that I should never be content with where I am and I can always do better as long as I have the mind set of an achiever. Without this scholarship, I ...
It brings me great displeasure to write this appeal due to the circumstances of my unwarranted suspension from a fraternity I hold dear to my heart. I became a member of the fall 2015 class falling in love with both my brothers and the fraternity. The past year I formed an unbreakable bond and accumulated numeral unforgettable experiences. I even got the pleasure to read The Phoenix and enjoy the beautiful and adventurous history of our fraternity. This all came to a shattering halt when the alumni of the ILBE Chapter persecuted for violating our Membership Agreement.
