Throughout history Akkadian empire was said to be the one which ruled the world or what he called “the four corners of the universe" as it was known back then. Tracing the rise of the Akkadian empire though history gets really complex specially since we only know about the time Sargon brought it back to its former glory. It was located in the vast expanse of ancient Mesopotamia, which in the current day would include the likes of Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the lower part of Asia, including the Mediterranean sea and Cyprus. It was Sargon the great who created the first multi-national empire in the world. He took over Akkad from the king of Uruk, Lugalzagesi and restored the Akkadian kingdom to its former glory. The historian Durant wrote, “ East and West, North and South, the mighty warrior marched, conquering Elam, washing his weapons in symbolic triumph in the Persian Gulf, crossing western Asia, reaching the Mediterranean, and establishing the first great empire in history”(121-122) ( reference from …show more content…

There were 5 rulers of Akkad who maintained the dynasty for 142 years before it collapsed. They created the first postal system inscribed in clay tablets which was enveloped by clay and then sent to who it was meant to. These letters could not be opened by those except for who it was meant for as there was no way to open it apart from breaking it. Sargon’s successors had a difficult time in there reign as most of the cities back then, rebelled after the death of Sargon. Once again after the rebellion was suppressed the trade flourished leading to long-distance trade with Magan and Meluhha, currently knows as Egypt and Sudan.
