It seems as though flying, which has previously been dubbed, “the safest way to travel” many believe is not upholding its slogan. Yesterday, an Air Canada Airbus A320 crashed at the Halifax Airport in Nova Scotia as it landed in after avoiding a snowstorm. Although no one died as a result of this incident, the plane hit an antenna, causing significant damage to the landing gear of the plane, and it skidded 335 meters falling just 1,100 feet from the end of the runway.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The incident occurred around 1 AM local time, and investigators have not ruled out weather conditions as a potential cause. Of the 133 passengers on the plane 25 were taken to a hospital, and all but one have since been released.

The plane was severely damaged – one of its two engines was broken off and the nosecone tore off the plane on during the crash. There was also an entanglement with power lines during the landing, which caused a blackout throughout the entire airport.
Frightened passengers, underdressed for the Nova Scotia weather, ran out of the plane, some in shorts and t-shirts, terrified and bloodied. Some saw fuel coming out of the plane and had concerns about an explosion.
Regional manager of air investigation at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Mike Cunningham told news sources, "Obviously it's too early to draw any conclusions. These things are always very complex. It takes quite a bit of time to get to the underlying factors." (http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/29/americas/air-canada-halifax-incident/).
The plane had been circling Halifax in a snowstorm and passengers were told if the conditions did not improve they might have to redirect the flight to Moncton. However, as the plane was running out of fuel, they were cleared for landing, and made their way down before the
The 25th of September proved to be a tragic day in the legacy of Big Island Air. The final report from the NTSB included that the likely cause of the accident was the pilot’s poor decision to fly into known instrument meteorological conditions of the cloud covered terrain. The final report also concluded that the pilot’s failure to navigate properly and a direct disregard for standard operation procedures were all contributing factors. The pilot’s blatant disregard for flying into instrument meteorological conditions while operating under VFR rules and failing to ever obtain a weather brief all played a major role in this tragic disaster.
...e ultimately saved that flight. Before getting back into the plane, he could have taken a moment to walk around and look at how the snow was affecting the wings. He would have seen that snow was collecting on the surface and could have made a decision to have the plane de-iced and had a coat of anti-ice on. They could have been more patient with the plow truck. Gave the plow truck more time to clear the runway then get off. Then he would have never had to turn off the engine bleeds to obtain a shorter take off distance. The pilot could have made a decision to hold off on the departure till the weather got better. With the ceiling at 900 feet and visibility at 1 ¼ doesn’t offer much room for error. I feel as if the pilots had made a decision to change at least one of these things, the plane would have never crashed. It is a good learning experience for other pilots.
Since there were no survivors, it’s almost impossible to tell what was true from the events in the movie. As a result, the writer and director of this film, Paul Greengrass, had to improvise and use the help from families that were in contact with the passengers during this time to create a credible story. “Every witness died, and assembling together what can remember from 37 mostly unrecorded phone calls made from the plane does not provide a clear or necessarily reliable picture. The film was finished before a transcript of the cockpit voice recording was released. That means that these scenes can only be a work of imagination, and largely improvised by the cast of United 93 . Greengrass had many things right on the movie starting from the basics, for example; the date of the event , the flight name and number, the location of its departure and its destination, the amount of people, where the hijackers were planning to go, and where and when the plane crashed. One of the most important things that this film got correct was how the terrorists took control of the airplane, which includes a fake bomb, knives, and directing all passengers and crew to the back of the plane. Also, the way the passengers realized that there was no way out of the situation and decided to work together to get control of the plane. What the movie also got right were the events that happened off the plane because all the people that were involved in this situation were alive to tell their side of the story. This included the events that happened on the control centers and the military base. In addition, there were also things that were either invented or speculated in order to make the story of the movie credible. This was shown from the start of the movie, where the terrorists were praying in a room before
This tragic accident was preventable by not only the flight crew, but maintenance and air traffic control personnel as well. On December 29, 1972, ninety-nine of the one hundred and seventy-six people onboard lost their lives needlessly. As is the case with most accidents, this one was certainly preventable. This accident is unique because of the different people that could have prevented it from happening. The NTSB determined that “the probable cause of this accident was the failure of the flightcrew.” This is true; the flight crew did fail, however, others share the responsibility for this accident. Equally responsible where maintenance personnel, an Air Traffic Controllers, the system, and a twenty cent light bulb. What continues is a discussion on, what happened, why it happened, what to do about it and what was done about it.
Why do planes crash? Most people answer this question with statements revolving around the plane having mechanical issues; this is rarely the case. In “The Ethnic Theory of Plane Crashes,” Malcolm Gladwell shows how communication, or lack thereof, plays a much larger role in crashes by making an appeal to the reader’s emotions, also called pathos, via imagery, syntax, and storytelling.
Although tragedies such as these usually leave citizens at a loss for words, these are the events that help organizations gain some perspective from a internal and external landscape for learning. Many organizations fail to interpret certain signals, or fail to analyze important information being communicated that is vital to their decision-making. Crisis management teams/planning should be required of every organization. It is important that all the departments learn how to communicate with one another also, because these guys did not reflect that, and the consequences were 13 fatalities. If they did have a crisis management team, strategy and plan, perhaps the outcome would have been different.
Another theory is that the pilot, Jason Dahl might have purposefully crashed the plane to prevent the hijackers from taking it over. Or perhaps that Dahl had cut off the planes fuel with out the hijackers being aware. It was said that the plane looked like it went straight down; and that the plane had almost completely disintegrated on impact leaving a hole several feet deep.
This report is on the Crossair flight 3597 crash which happens at Zurich airport on 24th November 2001. Analysis of Crossair flight 3597 will be covered, which includes details such as facts of Crossair flight 3597 crash, and the three contributing factors involved in the air accident. The three contributing factors are mainly Crossair, pilot error and communications with air traffic controllers.

The excitement among people was cut short by the unfortunate delay in flight, because of maintenance on one of its engines. The passengers boarded the plane a couple of hours after the scheduled time. Finally, it was cleared for taxi on runway 26-Right. The pilots lined the aircraft parallel to the runway. A tragic accident, however, was about to happen.
There are many social problems that exist in the world today, which includes but do not limits to self-identity and racism. However, they somehow go unnoticed because at times people conform to what society thinks is the way to live. In my opinion, people believe they should act or feel a certain way because of what is broadcast on television, featured in magazines, and even brought into the limelight by celebrities. After viewing the movie Crash, in my opinion, the movie targets on going social problems that are constantly being swept under the rug to this present day. I deem Crash a race movie because it forces the audience to question their own moral values.
not on the outside. All I wanted to do was find someone, get a story,
When I stepped into the large neatly organized white polished plane, I never though something would go wrong. I woke up and found myself on an extremely hot bright sunny desert island filled with shiny soft bright green palm trees containing rough bright yellow hard felt juicy apples. The simple strong plane I was in earlier shattered into little pieces of broken glass and metal when crashing onto the wet slimy coffee colored sand and burning with red orange colored flames. After my realization to this heart throbbing incident I began to run pressing my eight inch footsteps into the wet squishy slimy light brown sand looking in every direction with my wide open eyes filled with confusion in search of other survivors. After finding four other survivors we began moving our small petite weak legs fifty inches from the painful incident. Reaching our destination which was a tiny space filled with dark shade blocking the extreme heat coming from the bright blue sky, I felt my eyelids slowly moving down my light colored hazel eyes and found myself in a dream. I was awakened the next day from a grumbling noise coming from my empty stomach.
Those men managed to get past our high tech security systems and onto those planes. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives because some men smarted out fool proof system. The creators of airport security must have been unfamiliar with the saying, "where there’s a will, there’s a way." No one wants to admit to himself or herself, or anyone else for that matter, that sick people who thrive on pain and suffering, really do exist. Because airport security creators didn’t think about this fact, or they thought about it and chose to ignore it, innocent people lost their lives.
Airplane decent and landing accidents have been statistically proven to be one of the most common forms of airplane incidents. Ultimately accounting for about 37% airplane accidents, there are several different stages of the decent and landing process and several mechanical issues as well as a lack of focus on the part of the pilot can contribute to a faulty landing, ultimately resulting in a minor or fatal crash (Tullo, 2001).
