Agatha Christie was one of the most successful crime novelists and playwrights of the twentieth century. Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born on the fifteenth of September during the year of 1890. Ms. Christie was born in Torquay, England. She was the youngest of three children growing up in a middle class family supported by her father. When Ms. Christie was eleven years old her father passed away from a series of heart attacks leaving the family in a tight financial situation. When Ms. Christie turned sixteen years old she moved to Paris for schooling in singing and piano. Her mother encouraged Agatha to pursue opera, while studying in Paris. In her stories war was a recurring theme; sometimes involving family’s who lost a male figure, which died during the war. In the 1920’s over 15 million lives were lost during the World War, and many families in Europe were affected by it. By relating her stories to her readers, her novels became very popular.
