Furthermore, the last reason why I’m against arranged marriages in the United States is because true love may not occur. When true love is prevented from happening, it becomes an obstacle to find or be with your soul mate. When a person does not have a soul mate they tend to feel lonely and incomplete. On the other hand, you could argue that arranged marriages are more successful because you can choose who you want to marry and let your parents or matchmaker decide on when to go meet the person you have chosen, also understanding each other is inevitable, arranged marriages only happen with the approval from both the bride and the groom. You also have financial security; parents will make sure that their future in-law is steady in their career
Arranged marriages are typically not practiced in the United States, however, they are still a part of other cultures. While arranged marriages are often seen as a barbaric or outdated practice, they can still be successful. It may not seem important to study arranged marriages since they are not widely practiced in modern America or other western cultures but some benefits of arranged marriages found could be used to lessen the negative image western civilizations have about cultures that continue the practice of arranged marriages. There are definitely drawbacks in the practice of arranged marriage but there are also benefits that are often overlooked.
The culture that exists in America is one that is constantly changing to suit the times and the many different types of people that reside in the country. One aspect of American culture that has changed profoundly is the institution of marriage. Marriage began as the undisputed lifestyle for couples willing to make the ultimate commitment to one another. However in less than a century, pointless and destructive alternatives such as premarital cohabitation, have developed to replace marriage.
What is the difference between marriage and civil unions? There are many differences, mostly consisting of the benefits that married couples get that couples in civil unions do not receive. Marriage is different for homosexual and heterosexual couples. Even when homosexuals are married they do not receive the same benefits as heterosexual married couples. What if couples in a civil union could have the same benefits as a married couple?
Marriage, as an institution, has evolved in the last few decades. As society progresses, the ideas and attitudes about marriage have shifted. Today, individuals are able to choose their partners and are more likely marry for love than convenience. While individuals are guaranteed the right to marry and the freedom to choose their own partners, it has not always been this way. Starting from colonial times up until the late 1960’s, the law in several states prohibited interracial marriages and unions. Fortunately, in 1967, a landmark case deemed such laws as unconstitutional. Currently, as society progresses, racism and social prejudice have decreased and interracial marriages have become, not only legal, but also widely accepted.
The two religions I will focus on are Hinduism and Islam. The tradition of having an arranged marriage keeps the family happy and it also, provides stability for both parties. Marriage can be seen as an important turning point in one’s life and it is often most parents dream of seeing their child married to a respectful family. In Hinduism it is a common practice to follow within the traditions of arranged marriage. In the article “Arranged Marriages :An Assessment of The Attitudes of the College Students in India” Prakasa and Nandini Rao both claim that marriage is considered a ritual, for anyone who is not married they are considered unholy and may not participate in some social religious activities.
Nowadays we live in a world which is full of choices and the choice of the person you would like to merry is one of the most important one. It is really hard to decide whether this person is really “yours” or it is just the illusion. Thus, can it be a better way to have somebody who decides who will you be married to? Some people think it is unfair because person doesn’t have the right of choice but the others think that arranged marriages are a good choice. Free choice marriage is a marriage in which both partners choose each other by themselves and the choice is based on factors such as physical attraction, the desire for emotional stability, love, similar outlooks, personalities, interests etc. However this is not the only way to choose. In arranges marriages the partner is selected by elder family members but the young people may have the right to veto the choice if they strongly disagree with it. There are definitely pros and cons of both and only after taking them into consideration person can decide which to choose: arranged or free choice marriage.
Arranged marriages have been around for a while and they still are. In some countries arranged marriages are actually tradition but it is wrong to arrange a marriage for necessity instead of love. Did you know that arranged marriages can be annulled? You can legally annul your arranged marriage with a legal court session. With arranged marriages, you hurt your children more than help them. By marrying them at a young age, they don't get much education. Arranged Marriages are cruel because people deserve the choice of who they marry and a chance of love.

The American culture is not strong on the institution of marriage as it is for India. The current American society does not consider marriage institution; its importance comes after career and financial matters. This is evident in the way the society perceives marriages; marriages are secondary to career and financial matters. Americans can choose to divorce in order to pursue career of because of financial matters. The high rates of divorce also explain how the society views the institution of marriage. Parents know best, or at least that is what some assume. All over the world men and women alike are being forced to marry someone that their parent picked for them. These marriages are not based on love, but on tradition and social hierarchy. To think that parents would view their own social gaining above their child’s freedom and human rights is absolutely appalling, and I strongly believe that arranged marriages should be done away with. People should have the right to make their own choices and decide for themselves.

Now this was a time where dating was quite forbidden; arranged marriages were the way, for the most part. They were probably not allowed to date or choose their life partner. And so many couples from that time, after the Divorce Act, know better than to suffer. They have a choice to seek a better life. And so who wouldn’t? With the introduction of more laws and rights, divorce went up. But I feel that’s okay. There isn’t anything wrong with it. People recognize that they have a better life outside of relationship and that is such a great thing.
Girls all over the world are forced into marriages due to financial necessity, tradition and to ensure their future. Most of these girls married are at a young age: “One third of the world’s girls are married before the age of 18 and 1 in 9 are married before the age of 15”( “Child Marriage Facts and Figures”). The young ages of those being married reveal how crucial it is to resolve this problem. When child marriage occurs the parents of the bride usually chose the groom for their daughters; and these grooms can be three times older than the young brides. Some children are brought into the world of marriage at the of 8 or sometimes less depending on their cultural views. The following can be used to help reduce the impact of early marriage: reinforcing laws that are passed against child marriages, and providing information on contraceptives to victims of early marriage. The most efficient way of resolving the problem of child marriage is through educating the people who practice it about its adverse effects.
The chapter with the topic that interested me the most in this Sociology course was the one dealing with marriages. I thought it was interesting to see how marriage can take on so many different meanings depending on what country or culture a person belongs to. To most people, especially here in the US, marriage is usually the union of two adults (usually heterosexual) who are in love with each other. This means that the two individuals get to choose who they want to be their future husband or wife. If you look at the US for instance, we do not have arranged marriages, but you see the divorce rate with couples are multiplying at a rate that should not be happening. You are evening seeing now that people in the US really don’t get married they just live together and have kids and just leave it at that. The disadvantage that I can think of is that the individual will forget about love. Meaning when you see someone for the first time you may get this attraction and you would want to explore it more the excitement of something new is fun.
