In the novel “The Kite Runner”, Khaled Hosseini discusses many different types of food from Afghanistan. Tea was mentioned a few times as Baba retreated to his reading area and drank tea with Rahim Khan. Food is the epicenter of being a guest in an Afghan house because the host takes pride in what he/she serves. A person who is welcomed into the household, that person will be offered the best that the family has to present. They will constantly fill your tea glass and offer snacks until you cover your glass with your hand and say that you’ve had enough.
As a person is welcomed into the household, they should remove their shoes at the door. There are a lot of different etiquettes when it comes to eating in the U.S. than in Afghanistan. Food is served on a tablecloth that is laid down and spread on the floor. The seating arrangements are usually around the tablecloth and cushions may be used to support your bottom. Sitting with your feet crossed is usually preferred because sitting with your legs out with your feet facing people is disrespectful.
It is not accepted to use your left hand while eating, eating and passing dishes should be done with the right hand. Food will be put on your plate if it is left empty. Women are usually the ones who cook for the household. Pork is forbidden because it is a Muslim country. Alcohol is also not allowed. Chicken is considered a luxury. The eating hours are consistent with our times. Food is casually eaten with hands, as they use the tip of their right hands to pick up food or scooped with naan to eat.

In her article, “Sweet, Sour, and Resentful,” Firoozeh Dumas directs us through on how her mom readies a feast. She gives us detailed description on how her mother cooks the food for the guests by starting out grocery shopping until the part that the food is ready to be served. She writes about how because of their Iranian traditions they have to prepare a Persian feast for their newcomer friends and family, which brought joy to everyone, but her mother. Yet, we can see that she is trying to make sense to it all, every weekend they have guests over since the Iran’s Revolution started. Vitally, traditions stay great just when they convey satisfaction to the individuals celebrating those traditions. Also, the food that we choose tends to be based upon our culture, economic and social aspects. I agree with her even though traditions within various cultures are very different, but they all are supposed to do one thing that is bring everyone closer to each other, and bring happiness. However, that’s not always the case, especially in this article.

Like many other countries, they use elements from other countries’ traditions. Attention to detail is very important to the Marshallese. The war on terrorism in Afghanistan has been the longest war in the history of the United States of America, the war that nobody wanted is finally coming to an end. Ever since the September 11th attack on the twin towers in the heart of New York, the United States has led a 13 year long war on terrorism in the war-torn country, Afghanistan. The ending of the war is a major turning point in the history of America and Afghanistan. The ending of the war will be the greatest test on the people of Afghanistan to see how they will take their country into their own hand and decide its fate. Food is one of the most important parts of celebrations for, births, deaths, and marriages around the world. It is an important staple in everyday living and a person cannot survive without it. Food and culture are closely intertwined, cultures of every part of the world go to considerable lengths to obtain and prepare meals for important celebrations. In this paper I hope to inform you of the different staple diets of Africa, some important celebrations that use food in their celebrations, and the culture that completes the circle. I will answer some questions of why food is important and what types of foods are common uses in today’s African society.

The chef in the Indian family, Hassan Kadam, has certain ways to handle the food and present it. The Indian culture uses many herbs and spices which is how he finds the perfect taste in every dish. He strives to make every dish a warm and delightful feeling which is very important to Hassan’s culture. Most of the food he served had bread with it, mostly a certain type called naan.
