Leo opened his eyes and sat straight up in bed. Ella stood over him, a horrified look on her face. “What? What do I have on my face?” he said, rubbing his face. Sadie started to laugh. “What is she doing in here?” She covered her mouth with her hands. “Shh! Don’t yell! We were attacked and the raiders are searching the cabins for anyone they can challenge. We’re hiding,” Ella said, holding a finger to her lips. “And we don’t want to wake Artie and frighten him,” the Doctor whispered. Leo jumped. He had forgotten the Doctor was in here. “And the TARDIS is not an option, they already took it. She isn’t going to be happy when they open her up,” he was saying. “Who isn’t going to be happy? River or the TARDIS?” Sadie asked. “Probably both,” the Doctor said. “Well I’m going to slip into the bathroom and change,” Leo said, trying to avoid thinking after he had just woken up.
“Hey, we could’ve had worse,” Percy reasoned. “Worse? What’s worse than getting stuck in a room with Hedge and Strax?” Annabeth snapped. “Okay, you got me there,” Percy breathed, afraid of setting off her temper. But Annabeth wasn’t done, “I mean, seriously? We’re stuck in a room with a goat who has an obsession with killing and Mr. Potato Head, army style. And you’re saying it could be worse? Oh, and did I mention the venomous lizard?” “’The venomous lizard’ has ears, you know,” Madame Vastra commented. Annabeth opened her mouth to say more, but Percy quickly covered it. “That’s enough out of you,” he said, when Annabeth gave him a dirty look. She rolled her eyes, but she didn’t speak again. “Since that’s settled, let’s figure out a way to escape,” Percy said. He wasn’t exactly the brains of the operation, but he was glad to be lea...

Exactly five minutes later, they met at the bow. “Artemis,” Ella whispered, “Leo has an intercom device on Festus, we need to move our meeting. Does the crow’s nest sound good?” They climbed to the crow’s nest. Ella stared expectantly at Artemis, “Well, out with it.” Artemis smiled, “You really want to know why I’m here?” Ella nodded. “Fine,” Artemis sighed, “The real reason I followed you is because,” he paused and bit his lip. “I like you,” he whispered, so quite that it was barely audible. She stared at him, her mouth wide open in surprise. “You what?” she asked. He blushed, “I like you.” The second time it struck her hard and she blushed bright red. “At least the feeling is mutual,” she whispered. This time Artemis blushed, “You do?” She crossed her heart and nodded. “Does anyone else know?” he whispered. She shook her head, “It was a secret.”
The first bird omen, appearing before the assembly of suitors and Telemachos in The Odyssey li. 146-154 (pg. 43), portrays the impending struggle between Odysseus and the suitors as a fight between two eagles. The description of the battle, through phrases including “wing and wing” and “tore each other by neck and cheek with their talons,” characterizes the fight as violent, yet evenly matched. Halitherses’s subsequent interpretation classifies this fight as a “warning to the suitors” of the nearing return of Odysseus to Ithaka and their inevitable conflict with him (Od. li. 162, pg. 43). While Halitherses’s interpretation of the fight as foreshadowing is accurate, two of the next three bird omens reveal that the bird omens throughout The Odyssey
“Straining his eyes, he saw the lean figure of General Zaroff. Then... everything went dark. Maggie woke up in her bed. “Finally woke up from that nightmare. Man… I miss my brother. The return to reality was as painful as the return to consciousness after taking and anaesthetic. His body and brain ached with indescribable weariness, and he could not think of nothing to say or do that would arrest the mad flight of the moments He desperately wanted to run away with Mattie, but he could not leave because his practical sense told him it was not suitable to do so partly because of his responsibility to take care of Zeena.
“It was a large, beautiful room, rich and picturesque in the soft, dim light which the maid had turned low. She went and stood at an open window and looked out upon the deep tangle of the garden below. All the mystery and witchery of the night seemed to have gathered there amid the perfumes and the dusky and tortuous outlines of flowers and foliage. She was seeking herself and finding herself in just such sweet half-darkness which met her moods. But the voices were not soothing that came to her from the darkness and the sky above and the stars. They jeered and sounded mourning notes without promise, devoid even of hope. She turned back into the room and began to walk to and fro, down its whole length, without stopping, without resting. She carried in her hands a thin handkerchief, which she tore into ribbons, rolled into a ball, and flung from her. Once she stopped, and taking off her wedding ring, flung it upon the carpet. When she saw it lying there she stamped her heel upon it, striving to crush it. But her small boot heel did not make an indenture, not a mark upon the glittering circlet.
“Well-Well, it was the holidays, which I mentioned.” She gulped a shallow breath and her eyes met the floor again. “I was home alone-Well, Jordan was here, but she hadn’t paid a glance of attention to me. She was in a rush to find her clubs, cigarettes, and some trousers for when her tournament would begin. And, I suppose all the servants were here as well, they play a bit of a key to the story…” Her breath turned shallow again when she finally looked me in the eyes. “I saw a… darker servant walk by, and he held a note in his hand. He rushed by me like he was running from a bee, and I stopped him. I asked ‘what is
He just turned and left without a word. I touched Lennie’s grave. The rough touch of the wood deflecting to my fingers. I walked back to the ranch. Everyone was asleep. I wanted to run away tomorrow but I couldn’t let this chance pass up. It also prevented any chance of Candy following me. I tiptoed out of the room and went straight to the woods. I made sure to mix myself in with the shadows of the trees. I saw the river and It felt like I did it...until I felt something grab me by my neck. I quickly got flipped over and pushed to the ground.
It was a sunny day with a sweet aroma of blooming tulips. The sunlight glittered on their faces as the breeze rattled the chestnut tree above. There was an occasional giggle as they talked, but there was also a hint of discomfort and awkwardness between them as they peeked at each other’s face and recoiled when the other looked up. When the bell rang twice, I saw them say goodbye and walk away from each other. In the darkness of the crowd, a glimmer flashed into my eyes from Hannah’s cheeks.
Artemis Fowl Essay What defines us as humans? Our nature is what defines us as humans, but what are the significant traits that make up human nature? Good and evil, self-growth and greed. These are aspects that make up what a “human” is. Artemis struggles within the novels due to these roles which the theme plays.
Artemis and Katniss were characterized as rebellious women by the societal norms of that time, but where Artemis is childlike and stubborn, Katniss is level headed and mature which shows how feminism has redefined what it means to be an independent woman. The transition from Artemis to Katniss has been influenced by an increase of female characters breaking out of their traditional gender roles and male oppression.
Her voice strangled with fear. All she could do was whisper the doctor’s unserten words, “If she survives” This is just one challenge she had to face threw the book.
I felt in my heart a wicked, burning desire that they would kiss me with those red lips. It is not good to note this down, lest some day it should meet Mina’s eyes and cause her pain, but it is the truth. The fair girl shook her head coquettishly, and the other two urged her on. One said, “Go on! You are the first, and we shall follow. Yours is the right to begin.” The other added, “He is young and strong. There are kisses for us all.” I lay quiet, looking out from under my eyelashes in an agony of delightful anticipation (39).
Killinger’s eyes darted across the room, still recuperating from the grogginess of his swelling pain, burning with a red tint of anguish. The black and white crackle of the T.V buzzed in the corner of the room. A crooked mirror etched over the nearby wall. Clothing was spewn across the room, almost as if someone had been desperately packing for a quick getaway. It was all too quiet, but the faint murmur of cascading water could be heard behind the bathroom door.

In the novel, "Speak", Melinda compared herself as a rabbit, when seeing Andy Evans (the anaogist) and thinks, " Maybe he won't notice me if I stand still. That's how rabbits survive; they freeze in the presence of predators.......... BunnyRabbit bolts, leaving fast tracks in the snow" (Speak, 97). This quote shows Melinda representing herself as a rabbit, because she fear Andy, and thinks of him as a predator. Equally to the novel, " Twisted", when Tyler compares his dad to a dragon and says, " Dad snapped the curtains shut. He stood in the middle of the lemon-yellow carpet, opened his jaws, and sprayed fire everywhere. I was a loser, a liar, a jerk, an idiot, a disgrace, and an embarrassment............ I tuned out again. He kept at it for another or so flapping his wings and tearing at the sky with his talons" (Twisted, 150). The author compares Tyler's father to a dragon to inform the reader his angry at Tyler's
