The peer-reviewed evidence doesn’t exactly make the decision, but it helps in supporting the community. In the most basic terms, validity and applicability are fundamental as they provide the closeness to the truth and the usefulness of the new program. The integration of all six components ultimately enhances optimal outcomes and quality of life for people in the community. Also, when the community is given the opportunity to be involved, the individuals are more likely to participate and help facilitate the changes. Individuals also tend stick with the new program and take advantage of all the available benefits. Once the program has been implemented, periodic evaluations are done to see what is working and what isn’t working in the community; …show more content…
Public health interventions ultimately want a favorable outcome and to see continuous improvements within the spectrum. By concisely understanding what the ultimate desired outcome is, a stakeholder can provide the best framework that will best fit the needs for the individuals and the community. • Effective-The effective category is similar in regards to evidence based; however, the outcomes can range from short to long depending on the in/outputs of the program. When deciding how a program would best be suited, it might be wise to consider positive outcomes resulting in shorter durations verses negative outcomes having a much longer duration that is not proven effective to move forward. • Promising refers to a lot of long-term outcomes that are continuously examined and based on research that provides a more concrete outcome for the community. This affects decision making in how a program would be implemented and adhered to, also the constant participation that would be required for research …show more content…
The surveying and monitoring allows researchers to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and people and how they can improve the overall quality of a public health concern. Community guide offers preventative resources to improve health within a community. This program allows a certain strategies be put in place in order to provide an effective outcome. Cochrane provides the opportunity for individuals to make informed decisions through sound evidence and validity. It really stands by the credibility of information, reducing the risks, and improving health for all. I think it would be useful for monitoring and surveying local communities if we wanted to measure environmental or risk factors for mothers and babies, vaccinations-are children getting their vaccinations, obesity during pregnancy, etc. Community guide would be beneficial if we saw a high rate of a specific exposure, stakeholders could intervene and provide an efficient program to reduce the risk in the particular community and/or population. Cochrane would be a useful tool for anyone who needs more information about health and informed choices. This would be useful for doctors looking to provide the best treatment to a patient and preserving their health or a patient who needs help in making an informed decision regarding their health. It’s a great “go to” for anyone needing credible information on
DiClemente (2013) stated, “Although no evaluation is perfect, evaluation research can have a high degree of rigor” (DiClemente, Salazar, & Crosby, 2013, pp. 298). The result of a high degree of rigor can lead to the utilization by program planners and policy experts which would in turn could impact public health policy and promotion practice (DiClemente et al., 2013). This is obtained by a step by step, all equally important, process in what is known as the “Nine Step Stairway to Effective Evaluation”.
Evidence based practice is the basis for needed change in practice and function. It is a sound method for scientific, fact-based change. Changes which have no evidence to support them are fragile, unscientific, and subjective. These changes don’t effect real change over time, as they aren’t able to be proven to a more general population.
A Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) was conducted in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, with the focus on mainly Dekalb and Fulton Counties. The CHNA was conducted to identify the needs and resources in the community with the input from the community members, key stakeholders, and the public health. The CHNA would be used as a guide for the community in its future community health projects.

Criteria for rating in that capacity rely on associations or organizations doing the rankings. EBP’s may incorporate a number of evidence-based practices in the delivery of services (Fixsen, Naoom, Blasé, Friedman, & Wallace, 2005).

Interventions will also need to be included to meet assessment needs and must also meet at least one of the following criteria. Improve access to healthcare services. Enhance the health of the community. Advance medical or health knowledge. Relieve or reduce the burden of government or other community efforts (Evans, 2011).

Because state and local public health programs are often funded at least in part with Federal dollars, accountability is often a key issue (“Ten Essential Public Health Services.” 2015). Public health programs therefore document progress towards positive change in health behavior or health status indicators (“Ten Essential Public Health Services.” 2015). Data such as these can be presented to policymakers to document the value or effectiveness of a program (“Ten Essential Public Health Services.” 2015). Those data can also be used for continued program planning and modification (“Ten Essential Public Health Services.” 2015). Policies have positive or negative influences on health. Examples of health policies include safety standards, which influence the incidence of injuries; tobacco regulations affect personal health; and safe city parks can affect the ability for people are active (California Department of Public Health “Strategic Plan”, 2013). It is a systematic process to utilize appropriate data, develop and track measurable health objectives, establish strategies and actions to guide the targeted improvements (California Department of Public Health “Strategic Plan”, 2013). The targeted strategies may be laws, codes, regulations and/or
In order to progress from one phase to the next, it is necessary to learn and demonstrate an understanding of the information and skills required in each phase. Required demonstration of knowledge and skills is twofold: first is the active use of the information and skills in the community; second is the ability to restate and explain these orally and/or in writing. For those who have difficulty writing, the opportunity will be provided to review the skills orally in individual sessions with one’s case manager. Finally, each member’s readiness to move from one phase to the next will be assessed by a Peer Review Panel and approved by the program staff, which approve or disapprove all phase movement. Some of the things staff members will consider to determine phase advancement include: • Being a positive role model for others in the community; • Providing support and feedback to peers to help them in their efforts; • “Walking-the-walk” of the program, rather than just “talking-the-talk; • Using the program skills to develop more “Inner Self” behaviors, as opposed to continuing to react to situations using the “negative habit
It provides an affordable home and allows people to live in a better quality of life. Another element that’s makes a program successful is offering other services such as supportive services and health services for mental illness (Guerrero, Henwood, & Wenzel, 2014
I agree with the strategies used in this program! I like that they impact the environment, policy and social networks of communities in order to make healthy choices an easier option for the community (Healthways, 2016). Being able to hit all three of these community aspects allows public health officials to examine all levels of a communities resources and what's available or not avalaibe, whats forcing them or making it easier for them to make the negative choice over the healthier one. I am not sure on exactly what type of theories that the program uses but I believe that the social influence theory and or the self regulation theory were used to help facilitate change. Both these theories look at how a community is influenced by its surroundings, but they also look at individuals influences in the home and in the
The purpose of this community profile is to discuss a particular health improvement issue within a chosen community. A community can be defined using many different terms. You can belong to a community through religious beliefs. Through shared experiences or interests. You can belong to a political community where all involved share the same political interests. A community can also be defined as ‘a family’ a small village where many have lived most of their lives who share the same desire to belong to that community.

To reiterate these six components, which are innovation, technical package, communication, management, and political commitment – the community is hand in hand associated with core functions of Public Health. In Public Health the three main core functions are assessment, policy development, and assurance. Assessment is a tool that helps monitors different health and environmental statutes to create, deploy, and identify solutions. It also used a diagnostic tool to investigate health-related problems and different health hazards. Policy development is an act of informing and educating those developed ideas and topics that help the communities and different organizations in their health care efforts. Lastly, assurance utilizes different laws and regulations to help in the aid of protecting the public or environment at risk. It also re-evaluates the laws and regulations to see its effectiveness and its quality (Schneider,
