Is mass marketing a viable way to grow a brand?
Introduction
A market is defined as a group of customers with constantly changing heterogeneous needs, wants and demands (Maynard 1999, p. 78). Consequently, marketing is a relentlessly evolving discipline and each marketer, business or company has their own method of effectively creating, communicating and delivering products that have value for customers’ varied needs, wants and demands (Maynard 1999, p. 78). However, there is a concept of marketing which anticipates that all buyers in a market have common needs, wants and demands. This concept is named mass marketing and it focuses on an undifferentiated market where it is possible to create, communicate and deliver a single product

However, mass marketing was a concept developed in the late 19th century where mass marketing was the only economical way to grow a brand. Conversely, due to its success everyone began to ‘mass market’ their product and as a result individuals in today’s market are constantly being bombarded with advertising, whether it is on the TV, radio, on social media or even at the bus stop (Rasuli 1996, p. 239). As a result, societies today have become so use to the concept of ‘mass marketing’ it appears to be more of a background noise, as apposed to an effective marketing method. An example is shown with companies that send you emails to advertise the latest technological advancement. Unfortunately for these companies, email services have now set up ‘spam inboxes’ which prevents individuals from receiving and constantly bombarded by ‘spam’ emails (Stratch 2006, pp. …show more content…
From then on individuals were and continue to be so bombarded with different brands and products, they have become immune to it. As a result, my thoughts on the managerial implication and practical application inform that in order to viably develop and grow a brand in 2016 you must be able to select a targeted demographic and marketing segment. This will then allow for appropriate research to be conducted on the 4 Ps of marketing, product, place, promotion and price which in tern will establish a strong marketing base for growth and expansion into other marketing segments. In the current marketing climate you must first establish a niche market and then allow your product to grow beyond that single marketing segment as this promotes a strong reputation and marketing
There will be more experiential marketing towards the beginning of a new line extension/product, to promote brand switching from the competition products while creating brand awareness at the same time based on the value creation of each new line/product. The reduction in advertising budget due to high brand awareness of Allround will help us allocate more financial resources towards experiential marketing. As a team, we agreed that this was the best way to draw in more customers with heavily affecting the bottom

Once the target market has been identified it is important to develop a marketing strategy. In today's fast paced, information overloaded society; conveying a message about a product seems to be more difficult than ever. The consumer is bombarded with advertising everywhere they look. Today advertising not only exists on television, radio, magazines, and newspapers, it can be found on billboards, park benches, in our mailboxes, on buses, taxis, at sporting events, and on clothing.
Marketing In this day and age is vital for a company to perform at its possible best. Marketing’s main focus is to give great satisfaction to a customer. There are many aspect of marketing, these aspects give marketer’s the tools to help strive for the best possible success they can achieve. They hope that they can create exposure for their brand, product or service.
Marketing is a process of determining a consumer’s needs, devising a product or service to satisfy those needs, and trying to focus customers on the goods and services you are offering. Marketing is extremely important, and a fundamental building block for business growth. A marketing team is given the task of creating customer awareness through a variety of different marketing techniques. If a business does not pay close attention to their consumer demographic and needs, they will eventually fail over time. Two important aspects of marketing include acquiring new customers, and the preservation and growth of relationships with current customers. Marketing has always been viewed as a creative outlet, which encompassed advertising, distribution, and the selling of goods and services. Marketing staff will also try to anticipate what customers will want in the future, often being accomplished with market research. In summation, a good marketing plan should be able to create a favorable proposition or series of benefits that a customer can value through goods or services. The marketing mix is normally described as the strategic positioning of a product or service in the marketplace, using the specification of the four Ps. During the early 1960’s, Professor E. Jerome McCarthy of Harvard Business School stated that a marketing mix contains four elements. The four key points are product, pricing, promotion, and placement. It is recognized that all these aspects must be present to ensure a successful business model within a given industry. We will now take a thorough look at the four marketing mix points.
In conclusion to this I think that marketers do not have the ability of controlling the consumers need through the process of efficient marketing methods. However, the marketers can successfully market products by taking the process of demographics and psychographics into consideration, while this will profitably market their products to the intended consumers hence increase in the demand or need.
Over the last decade, product marketing and ways through which communication takes place between manufacturers and consumers has changed tremendously (Belch & Belch 2004). Due to the technological revolutions and the rise of innovations such as the mobile phones and the internet, control over information has shifted apparently from the manufacturer's hands to the hands of consumers (Belch & Belch 2004). The market environment has also changed due to globalization of marketing strategies, loss of confidence in media advertising, increased reliance on targeted communication methods, and media fragmentation and so on (Belch & Belch 2004).
It has been observed since the inception of Marketing that marketers target to only specific market and how they identify such market. There are certain criteria or base they use to identify the consumers who they would be serving to. Customers do have unique requirements satisfaction levels and aspirations. Some customers however are similar with respect to their requirements of goods and services. In such case if their needs are identified and they can be grouped in quantities of a specific size then it can be segmented. Now each customer group have specific expectations and businesses must cater to the needs of the segmented that has been targeted.
Marketing is very important to the success of a business. Before people can buy a product or service they have to know about it. However, marketing entails more than just letting people know what your company has to offer. Throughout this paper, I will define marketing, offering my personal definition as well as more formal definitions from other sources. Furthermore, I will explain to the reader the importance of marketing to organizational success giving real world examples in support of this explanation. The field of marketing can include many things. I believe, however, the most important thing which it should include is communication with customers as to the value and benefits of using that particular company's products and services. It should help to establish the business's niche in the industry and distinguish it from other such businesses.
A good definition of marketing is the process of the intermediary function between product development and sales. (Reddy ) The field of marketing entails taking a generic product or generic service (the product or services do not have to be “generic” they may be actually unique to the marketplace) and associating the generic product with a brand name (Petty 2001). Under this generic concept are the activities of advertising, public relations, media planning, sales strategy and so on.
Too often, a marketing function is misunderstood, because many people do not understand what is meant by ‘Marketing’.
Nevertheless, one of the most important constants among all of us, regardless of our differences, is that, above all, we are buyers. We use or consume on a regular basis food, clothing, shelter, transportation, education, equipment, vacations, necessities, luxuries, services, and even ideas. As consumers, we play an essential role in the health of the economy; local, national and international. The purchase decision we make affect the requirement for basic raw materials, for transportation, for production, for banking; they affect the employment of employees and the growth of resources, the successfulness of some industries and the failure of others. In order to be successful in any business and specifically in today’s dynamic and rapidly evolving marketplace, marketers need to know everything they can about consumers; what they are want, what they are think, how they are work, how they are spend their leisure time. They have to find out the personal and group influences that affect consumer decisions and how these decisions are made. In these days of ever-widening media choices, they need to not only identify their target audiences, but they have to know where and how to reach
People are buying the product which gives them prestige. Marketers have interest on consumer psychology and they are playing with every day by showing that their product will give prestige in the society. It’s true that the transparent societies now needs brands image. Marketers analyze the interest and needs of consumer than create the product according to the need of the society. Brand can attain the people attraction and the business can have the good reputation by giving satisfaction to consumer. If the brand gives satisfaction and function are according to the expectation of consumer than the brand gets good image on the mind of consumer. brand image is great weapon to use for the competitors it builds in years , at once the business gets brand image it has competitive edge from other brands in the market. When consumer rely on the brand the company can create the long term relation with the consumer, in other words (CRM) consumer relationship management. The brand image has effect on the choice of every individual there believe and attitude change their preferences. Brand image can be effected by price as price is an important part for consumer when they are making purchase decision if they find the value of brand is equal to the pricing they purchase that brand if not they refuse it. Similarly the image of brand can be effected by the attributes and features or
Due to the fact that changing times imply as well a change of society and its changing wants and needs, companies have to be aware that a brand’s position should be adapted to a newly developed lifestyle. “All brands need to be revital-ized on a regular basis in order for them to be kept fresh, vital, and relevant to the contemporary market.” (Keller/Sterthal/Tybout 2002, p. 86).
