There were many good topics that were talked about throughout these 4 meetings. I learned many things from the Academic Success Center, Student Counseling and Resource Center, Library, and the Academic Services. The all seem like very good resources for students attending Lindenwood. The academic success center seems like a very good tool for all students to use. Here is their mission statement: “The mission of the Academic Success Center (ASC) is to help students achieve their educational goals while supporting their development toward being efficient, independent learners with a commitment to academic excellence.”. Students can go to the Academic Success Center to learn study skills, to be tutored by fellow students, and even have a safe quiet place where they can study with no distractions. Students can go to the Counseling and Resource Center for many different things. They can go for counseling whether it be individual or group, career testing, their feelings, personal/relationship problems, and personal habits whether it be bad or good. The Student Counseling and Resource Center is completely confidential and free. During the meeting about the Library we were told many things about our library. Students can go to the library to have a quiet place to learn, find books or articles they need for a class, and free access to computers. The librarians are there to help you. They are so determined to help students that they have created a 24 hour chat, where you can get help from one of them. Direct student services are in person interaction between the counselor and student. The services are described as, school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning, and responsive services. As a trainee, it has been well-educated that those three aspects of direct service is vital for the success of each student. The core curriculum are lessons that are designed to assist and attain desired competencies and to provide the knowledge, attitude, and skill needed for each student developmental level (ASCA, 2016). The comprehensive school counseling program is a program designed to provide all students with an equal opportunity to obtain their education. To be comprehensive, a school counseling program must be holistic, systemic, balanced, proactive, infused into the academic curriculum and reflective ( Dollarhide & Sagnik, 2012). Comprehensive school counseling programs are critical to students success. Each CSCP must be established based off of the schools mission. The CSCP must be well organized, comprehensive as well as systemically implemented. It is accountable through evaluations. The CSCP must also be reflective and infused into the academic curriculum. It is prevention and intervention focused. The focus of the CSCP is on the domains: academic development, social/personal development and career development. Academic development is the area of learning for the students. The career development is the area of learning to work- jobs to careers. The personal/social development is the area where the students learn to live and function daily.
The ASCA National Model breaks down delivery through two types of student services: direct and indirect. According to the ASCA National Model (2012), “Direct student services are in-person interactions between school counselors and students” (p. 83). Direct services are delivered through three elements: school counseling core curriculum (instructions and group activities); individual student planning (appraisal and advisement); and responsive services (counseling and crisis response) (ASCA, 2012).

In exploring Northcentral University’s Academic Success Center, I determined several aspects and services to be particularly useful. These include Written Resources in the form of the various communities under the Academic Success Center, the Tiers of Service feature, and the Coaching offerings.
High school counselors advise students on an assortment of topics. Counselors help from advising students about colleges and requirements to helping students deal with social, behavioral and personal problems. School counselors do not always interact with students individually; they will also work with small groups of students or even an entire class, depending on the topic. According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), high school is a time for students to transition into adulthood and the work of work, begin separating from their parents, and exploring and defining their independence. They need guidance in making concrete and compounded decisions. This is where school counselors come in to help these students guide them with information.

As technology constantly advances, society also changes with these advancements. More specifically, the growing detachment from libraries and the question of how much we need them. However, public libraries still serve a substantial purpose in society and are crucially important to historians, parents, and ultimately bringing communities together. To start, public libraries are a home to the community and bring like-minded people together. Public libraries tend to be a hot spot for attractive activities, no matter the age or background of the person.
Every 26 seconds one of our kids drops out of high school, that's 1.3 million students each year. The main reason for dropping out, the failure to succeed. Society puts an insurmountable amount of pressure on these kids to succeed, however this can actually be extremely detrimental to the students and children.
Learning Resources Center and Its Services There are many people that graduated from Cypress College with excellent grade because they have used the services of the Learning Resources Center (LRC). The LRC divided into many small different sections such as Learning Success Center (LSC), Math Success Center (MSC), and the computer lab center to help students with their different need in study. First center is the learning success center. This place calls a learning success center because it has some strategies that can help students realize and practice their study habit.
Guidance counseling, also called school counseling, has evolved over the years into an important part of the education system. Counselors are now taking on new roles in schools as leaders so much so that the ways in which counseling is being implemented has become a much talked about topic in schools. The effectiveness of counseling in schools is looked at by the education system more frequently than it was in the past. Though all school counselors must follow a national model for counseling, the roles and functions of counselors at various levels in the school system are different, however, school counselors at all levels of education before college are generally effective despite implications.
