Academic development is a very broad subject that involves navigating the university system, finding good resources and finding academic advising. Another aspect of academic development is understanding teaching styles and learning styles as well as how to make the learning process of different teachers work for you. For a world class student all of these aspects of academic development are very crucial to reaching their goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. Personal development includes enhancing your self-awareness, improving your success strategies, outlining what behaviors and habits you need to change to be successful, managing time, managing stress levels and developing a professional and ethical behavior. A world class student would make personal development very important throughout his college career. First he would enhance his self-awareness in a few different ways which include reading on what the campus is up to on the website as well as communicating with his professors to stay informed on his classes. Next a world class student would focus on improving his success strategies. In order to improve his strategy at success he would go have meetings with his professors and getting an understanding how to be successful in their class and how to study correctly for the material. Going to extracurricular class would also improve his success strategies because you can learn things to success that a class won’t teach you. The first part of personal development I need to work on is enhancing my self-awareness. I have taken steps in being aware by joining my community council and knowing all of the programs that the put on in my hall as well as all around campus. I could improve this by getting more involved with other programs put on by the campus such as a tour guide or work at a help desk. My success strategies are not anywhere where they need to be because I have not had to study much and high school and college requires an immense amount of studying. One way I can improve this skill is to go to the library to study where it is quiet with no distractions or go to a help center where students and teachers can support you as well as answer questions your may have about a subject. The next aspect of personal development I need to work on is changing my habits and behaviors to benefit my health as well as the ease of achieving my goal. One behavior I need to break is I can get angry when I don’t fully understand something I get angry and sometimes refuse to even attempt to complete what I am doing. One branch of psychology is known as lifespan psychology, which is the study of the development of humans from birth until death. The study of a person’s lifespan is used to help other people overcome their developmental challenges through learning about how others deal with the various stages of development. According to Robert S. Feldman (2017) “lifespan development examines the way in which people develop physically, intellectually, and socially.” (p. 1) One of the best sources on how to get through a developmental period in life is to ask someone who has already gone through that phase. During high school, I did not have to study as hard as I do now that I am in college. Usually, I would be able to study the day before the test and score a hundred percent. Although, occasionally, I would be able to skip a few classes and get the notes from a classmate or of course, resort to guessing. However, now that I am in college, the lectures require much more attentiveness and are more complex: composing more information, meaning that one has to proportion time more responsibly and take an advantage of good study habits. My learning skills have made a complete transformation since I have been in college. I learned new things and I actually enjoy learning new things. Nevertheless, these changes required a lot of self control and practice. Going through these experiences have changed my entire persona about learning such as study habits, being more attentive during classes, and going through greater extents to succeed in certain classes.
Through the support of the professional development program, the effectiveness of the teachers enhances the quality of instruction and increases the student achievement and learning. The delivery of professional development program leads to alterations in professional learning, leading to changes in professional practice, which ultimately impact student achievement.
The foundational documents helped me realized that student engagement is important when trying to retain and developed them. There are two key components in engagement (Wolf-Wendel et. al., 2009). The first component is the amount of work that students put into their education and activities that lead to their experiences and student success (Wolf-Wendel et. al., 2009). Education gives people the competence and skills to pilot the world. It also allows people to provide and contribute to their society and community. Like Nelson Mandela said “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Similar to our lives, our educational journeys are different from one another. My educational journey was a very complicated journey. My family and mentors supported me, so was able to overcome those obstacles. The biggest motivation that got me through this journey was my father’s courage and love for education.
