Academic advising is one of the most important activities the academic staff engage in at AFMS School. Through advising, the academic staff assist students to establish their academic and career goals and then guide them through the courses and activities which will enable them to accomplish these goals. This includes resolving academic issues, and offering academic / educational advice.
Advisory Role
To provide students with effective academic advice, it is essential that the advisors have thorough information on the following:
1. The rules and regulations of the School.
2. The academic standing of the students.
3. The programs and requirements, particularly the subjects' prerequisites.
4. The sequences in which courses are to be taken.

All students should be offered a meeting with their Advisors as soon as possible after commencement of their studies at the School, normally within their first week to provide Advisees with information on:
a. Their advising availability hours.
b. Their own contact details.
c. The Advisors role and Adviser/Advisee relationship.
d. Other sources of available support /advice.

5. An Adviser may choose to meet Advisees in small groups (particularly where Advisees have not responded to the offer of an individual meeting) but should not discuss personal matters pertaining to individual students in such meetings. It must be made clear to Advisees at group meetings that they can request individual meetings as soon as they wish.
6. Each Adviser will allocate a minimum of two advisory hours per week during the academic year, when they will be available to see Advisees and other students. A student may choose not to use advisory hours and arrange alternative appointments by email/telephone, upon reasonable request.
7. Advisers will be available to give advice to their Advisees themselves, or refer appropriately to others, on all academic related matters including:
a. Module choice / enrolment.
b. Coursework feedback.
