“Abuse and Aftermath”
Indian classical dance sounds easy well it’s not. The Natya Shastra is the foundation treatise for the classical dances in India and it’s attributed to the ancient scholar Bharata Muni. This cult needs extreme discipline of mind, body, soul, expressions, gestures, practice. It’s a form of expression of spiritual ideas, virtues and the essence of scriptures. If we get to the basics like we learn our first letters of alphabets this cult needs to be incorporated at a very early age, and the right age is four. The body is capable of twisting into the postures, mudras, movement of pelvis, neck and chest so that you can attain the finery.
This wasn’t the case with “Ronita”. She was nineteen when she decided to learn “Odissi”. Call it her sudden desire, watching
All was happening hunky dory when they got caught during a raunchy session by the wife of the tutor and that was the beginning of destruction. The tutor started ignoring her, she was asked to leave the dance class, her dreams of performing with the finery of motif was shattered, her dreams of building a home with her tutor was broken and she grew up an insecure adult in need of validation yet by a man.
We talk of pedophilia but sexual abuse as an adult can also have severe effect on females. The rage of hormones, the premenstrual desire, an urge to have sex gets difficult to control. There has been a rise of 33% cases reported of victims of adolescence sex abuse. Ronita may be an adult but with a mind of a child. It would be wrong to call her a full grown adult since she had a difficulty in understanding the right versus wrong and it’s common.

Child abuse is a serious issue in today's society. Many people have been victims of child abuse. There are three forms of child abuse: physical, emotional, and sexual. Many researchers believe that sexual abuse is the most detremental of the three. A middle-aged adult who is feeling depressed will probably not relate it back to his childhood, but maybe he should. The short-term effects of childhood sexual abuse have been proven valid, but now the question is, do the long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse affect middle-aged adults? Many contradicting views arise from the subject of childhood sexual abuse. Researchers and psychologists argue on this issue. Childhood sexual abuse has the potential to damage a child physically, emotionally, and behaviorally for the rest of his or her childhood, and the effects have been connected to lasting into middle-aged adulthood.
Sexuality is defined in many ways, for the sake of this papers clarity sexuality will be defined as, sexual feelings and interactions that are defining features of romantic intimacy. (Fering 2009) Child sexual abuse (CSA) is defined in the International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences as "any [sexual] action that is inflicted upon or must be tolerated by a child against their own will or any [sexual] action about which the child cannot make a decision due to their physical, emotional, mental, and verbal inferiority." Statistics for the prevalence of CSA range from anywhere from 15 to 25 percent of women to 5 to 10 percent of men according to Deegener. (2002)
...use victims tend to be under the age of 8 in today's era. The possibility of a girl being at risk of sexually abusement falls in the category of 1 in every 4 girls while a boy tends to be 1 in every 6. Children in real danger are getting lost in the press of inappropriate cases (Grapes).
Sexual abuse negatively affects a young child’s neurological development. It causes toxic stress, a type of stress which children are unable to manage by themselves. 7 According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, exposure to toxic stress during early childhood can impair and disrupt development of brain circuits, which “can cause an individual to develop a low threshold for stress, thereby becoming overly reactive to adverse experiences throughout life.”8 High levels of stress hormones can also affect the child’s immune system and cause “cog...
Children have an unconditional trust for their parents the moment they are born. This trust is generalized to many adults; however, some seemingly trustworthy adults can be the most dangerous by taking advantage of a child’s innocence. Cruise (2004) states that most children know their perpetrator and feel comfortable in their presence. Breaking such a genuine trust causes lifelong detrimental consequences. Childhood sexual abuse has many definitions, but Collin-Vézina, Daigneault, and Hébert (2013) define it “as any sexual activity perpetrated against a minor by threat, force, intimidation, or manipulation” (p. 7). Despite the form of sexual abuse, children are not developmentally prepared physically or emotionally to see, hear or experience this type of act. Although adults view childhood sexual abuse as a clear violation of boundaries, children may not completely believe it is the perpetrators fault. Children can have a multitude of beliefs such as they deserve the abuse, the abuse it their fault, and that abuse is a way that the perpetrator shows love. Unfortunately, many children do not talk about the abuse, so parents and guardians need to be aware of the warning signs that sexual abuse is possibly occurring.
More than 2.5 million cases of child abuse and neglect are reported each year in the United States (Child Abuse and Neglect Statistics). Almost five children die as a result of abuse and more than three out of four are under four years old (Child Abuse: Statistics & Facts). Child abuse is very common amongst families (Child Abuse and Neglect Statistics). One-third of these involve physical abuse and one half involves neglect. Studies show that one in four girls and one in eight to nine boys will be sexually abused before they are 18 years old (Child Abuse: Statistics & Facts).
Upon completion of the research, it was appalling to find additional side effects of childhood sexual abuse in the form of anxiety, depression, the feeling that they could have prevented the abuse, and thoughts of suicide. Further effects include sexual anxiety and disorders, including too many sexual partners, prostitution, and poor parenting skills later in life. Children may have a difficult time setting safe limits with others (e.g. saying no to people) and relationship problems, poor body image, eating problems, unhealthy behaviors, such as alcohol, drugs, and self-harm. These behaviors are often displayed to try to hide painful emotions related to the abuse go back and make sure this is complete deb! (Child Welfare Information gateway, 2008).
Molestation is the first type of sexual abuse that’ll be discussed. Molestation is a form of child abuse in which an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation. Most people think sexual abusers are strangers to their victims. But the truth is most abusers know their victims and use their stand in their relationship to try to make the victims do what the abusers want them to do. Most children who get molest are by family members. “More than 90 percent of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their perpetrator in some way.” (Snyder, Howard). According to Dr. Elizabeth Forsyth and Margret Hyde, research done in the 1980s and 1990s suggests that almost all abusers are males who are known to their victims and that most abuse occurs within the family. (pg. 21) One in three girls and one in five boys get sexually abused before the age of eighteen. (Arta, C)
Data has shown that sex offenders tend to have experienced secual and physical abuse as childrem. Child molesters are about twice as likely as rapists to have experienced childhood sexual abuse. Overall only about one third of all offenders claimed to have been physically abused as a child. Although a big majority of sex offenders claim to have been victimized, they’re not all true. Regardless this should not be seen as an excuse for doing.
Although physical abuse is the most recognized form of domestic violence, sexual abuse on a child is the most common, and despite the fact that 91 percent of sexual abuse is committed by a non-family member, it still takes place in the child’s home. This kind of activity can drastically change the behavior and judgment of children with their sexuality, self-esteem, and overall outlook on life.
1 in 10 children suffer from child maltreatment. 1 in 16 children suffer from sexual abuse. Nearly 1 in 10 children are witnesses to family violence. The youngest children are the most vulnerable to maltreatment. Over 25% of abused children are under the age of three while over 45% of abused children are under the age of five. Number of children in the United States who died because of abuse or neglect yearly: 1,593.
