Abortion is Never Justified I am examining the question ‘Abortion is never justified’ from a Christian perspective and will explain my view on abortion. The bible has many quotes directly relating to the foetus within the womb. The main argument is trying to discover at what point life begins when finding this out it is easier to decide whether abortion is right or wrong. Though the question on when life starts is hard to find out as people have their own point of view. Using the Bible and the Churches view I will try and work out when life starts and whether abortion is never justified. The Bible teaches that life begins even before the baby is formed or even conceived. The passage from Jeremiah 1: 4-5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart" This quote means that life begins before the baby is formed in the womb and God knows what is planned for the baby. If this is true then it can be considered as murder, since it is the killing of a person who’s life has already been planned. Common absolute morals today are generally taken from the bible or mainly the Ten Commandments. For example, most people would agree that murder or stealing is wrong. The bible also makes it clear that abortion is completely wrong, for example; Proverbs 24: 11 - 12 "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don't stand back and let them die. Don't try to avoid responsibility by saying you didn't know about it. For God knows all hearts, and he sees you. He keeps watch over your soul, and he knows you knew! And he will judge all people according to what they have done." This passage is saying that people sho... ... middle of paper ... ...ncy and if doctors can incubate baby’s born at 28 weeks, so that they survive without health problems I believe that it is morally wrong to abort babies at the same stage of development. In the cases I have outlined above I accept that abortion can be performed up to eight weeks gestation. I also think that abortion should be made harder to obtain by needing two doctors signatures. Both the mother and father of the baby should be offered counseling to help them look at all the options available including adoption. This would enable them to reach an informed and not emotional decision that they may regret later. I feel strongly that abortion should not be used as a form of contraception. If people find themselves in the position where they do have an unwanted baby then their first choice should be adoption not abortion.

This essay, written by Don Marquis, attempts to undermine general beliefs that anti-abortionist views are simply based on irrational religious or other beliefs. The essay ignores certain special cases of abortion; and mainly purports its focus onto the general arguments against anti-abortionist views by pro-choice holders. Marquis begins by outlining a common argument of anti-abortionists, in which a fetus is seen as being human enough by possessing a genetic code, and is thus necessary and sufficient for dictating that being as a human. This leads to a common conclusion that if a fetus is a human, it must follow to be understood as it being wrong to kill a human. Secondly, he outlines the argument of a pro-choice advocate; which asserts that fetuses are not rational or social beings, therefore it is not a wrongful killing.
Mrs. Smith is faced with the decision on whether or not to have an abortion. She has already two kids of her own and is struggling to make ends meet. Mrs. Smith does not know why she is once again pregnant when she has been using contraception consistently. At the end, she makes the conscious decision of having the abortion. Is her abortion morally justified? The view of abortion simply depends on the person’s point of view on life. The philosopher Don Marquis, argues that abortion is morally wrong because we will then be depriving a fetus of a future life while Judith Jarvis Thomson argues that having an abortion is morally justified because Mrs. Smith did not want to have the baby at the beginning. At the end, Mrs. Smith’s decision to have an abortion is morally justified because of the following reasons. First she did not want to have the baby since she was already struggling to make ends meet. Second, she was already using contraceptives, which means that she was
say that the beginning of life should be at least measured by the beginning of brain life. By six weeks, an unborn baby's brain waves can be recorded by an electroencephalogram (EEG).10 Between six and seven weeks, the unborn baby will respond to external stimuli, such as touching his or her face.11 While many people believe that a fetus is merely a mass of flesh, and is not nearly as complex as a human, this is completely untrue. By eight weeks, all of the body systems are present, and by eleven weeks, still i! n the first trimester, all of those body systems are
The following essay will examine the morality of abortion with specific reference to the writings of Don Marquis, Judith Jarvis Thompson, Peter Singer and Mary Anne Warren. I will begin by assessing the strength of the argument provided by Marquis which claims that abortion is impermissible because it deprives a being of a potential “future like ours,” and then go on to consider the writings of Singer, Thomson and Warren to both refute Marquis claims and support my assertion that abortion is morally permissible primarily because of the threat to the freedom and bodily autonomy of women extending the right to life to a foetus in utero would pose.

Abortion has been one of the hottest political issues over a number of years. The issue of abortion is a huge debate between pro-lifers, people against abortion, and pro-choicers, people who support abortion. Since the Roe v. Wade court case in 1973, which legalized abortion, laws dealing with abortion have been altered in each individual state. Due to these laws, organizations such as the National Organization for Women (NOW) and Feminists for Life of America (FFL), have been created to debate the issues of abortion and stand up for what they believe. The laws in Pennsylvania and the Christian Bible have their own perspective on this “hot button” topic of abortion. These sources have similar and opposing opinions that offer a never-ending argument on this issue.
The day you were born I felt this indescribable love. One I had never known before. From the beginning of your life I never knew I could have a love that was so strong. When you were an infant I told people how great you were and they said, "Yeah, but wait until she is two." When you were two I told people how great you were and they said, "Yeah, but wait until she is ten." When you were ten I told people how great you were and they said, "Yeah, but just wait until she is 16." And now you are 16 and I am telling people how great you are.
There are many things in this world are expensive. A lot of people will agree that raising children is one. Children require food, shelter, medical insurance, and clothes. This is still no excuse for abortion. There is several government and non-government funded agencies and funding available to help with families who may be struggling to provide for their families. There are several options such as welfare, snap benefits program, food banks, thrift stores, and many others that help lighten the stressful financial load of raising children. There are programs like Medicaid, which provides health coverage for individuals making below a certain income, which differs from state to state. There is also a CHIP program (Children’s Health Care and Insurance) that provides coverage to nearly 8 million children in families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, but cannot afford coverage, (Medicaid.gov.) Between Medicaid and the CHIP program coverage is provided to more than 45 million children in the United States. (Medicaid.gov). All children involved in the Medicaid and CHIP program are entitled to comprehensive medical plans. (Medicad.gov children) Medical care is a big expense for some families. Medicaid and CHIP cover a lot of children but for some that do not qualify for either there is also Obamacare, which is suppose to be affordable healthcare for Americans. There are also local clinics that will see patients for little or nothing if individuals do not have insurance. There are also programs that assist with food. Snap is a program whose purpose is to end hunger and improve nutrition by providing monthly benefits to eligible low income households to help them buy the food they need for good health, (benefits, gov SNAP) Th...

In this paper, I will discuss the pro- abortion argument presented by Judith Thomson. The main idea of Thomson’s argument is that abortion is morally permissible. In supporting her position, Thomson presents several arguments regarding the implications of the right to life that she believes the anti- abortion might have dwelled on. As I explain her arguments, I will also attempt to criticize her view on the topic.
It is almost unanimously agreed upon that the right to life is the most important and sacred right possessed by human beings. With this being said, it comes as no surprise that there are few issues that are more contentious than abortion. Some consider the process of abortion as immoral and consisting of the deprivation of one’s right to life. Others, on the opposite end of the spectrum, see abortion as a liberty and a simple exercise of the right to the freedom of choice.
