There are many things in this world are expensive. A lot of people will agree that raising children is one. Children require food, shelter, medical insurance, and clothes. This is still no excuse for abortion. There is several government and non-government funded agencies and funding available to help with families who may be struggling to provide for their families. There are several options such as welfare, snap benefits program, food banks, thrift stores, and many others that help lighten the stressful financial load of raising children. There are programs like Medicaid, which provides health coverage for individuals making below a certain income, which differs from state to state. There is also a CHIP program (Children’s Health Care and Insurance) that provides coverage to nearly 8 million children in families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, but cannot afford coverage, (Medicaid.gov.) Between Medicaid and the CHIP program coverage is provided to more than 45 million children in the United States. (Medicaid.gov). All children involved in the Medicaid and CHIP program are entitled to comprehensive medical plans. (Medicad.gov children) Medical care is a big expense for some families. Medicaid and CHIP cover a lot of children but for some that do not qualify for either there is also Obamacare, which is suppose to be affordable healthcare for Americans. There are also local clinics that will see patients for little or nothing if individuals do not have insurance. There are also programs that assist with food. Snap is a program whose purpose is to end hunger and improve nutrition by providing monthly benefits to eligible low income households to help them buy the food they need for good health, (benefits, gov SNAP) Th... ... middle of paper ... ... they are. I still stand by the fact that a life is a life no matter what their physical limitations are. There are children of all ages who live with these means but does that make them any less of a human? Will killing the disabled or cure their condition? Absolutely not. C. Everett Koop, a pediatric surgeon says, “some of the most unhappy children have all of their physical and mental faculties, while some of the happiest youngsters have borne burdens which most of us would find very difficult to endure” Works Cited http://www.benefits.gov/benefits/benefit-details/1578 http://medicaid.gov/CHIP/CHIP-Program-Information.html http://medicaid.gov/Medicaid-CHIP-Program-Information/Medicaid-and-CHIP-Program-Information.html https://www.cfda.gov/index?s=program&mode=form&tab=core&id=2225059406dd5508834cde454b3e63b4 http://www.feedingal.org/ teenpregnancies.org
Abortion is "the intentional termination of a pregnancy which may include the loss of life of an unborn entity". During the eighth week of pregnancy, the development of the unborn entity known as the Fetus- an unborn offspring- begins, where brain activity becomes detectable. Note, the fetus is not considered Viable until the twenty-fourth week of pregnancy (S. Morris MarquisHO). According to Professor Steven Morris, a fetus becomes a person when it has sentience, viability, brain activity, self-consciousness, etc. "While many people agree that a day-old embryo does not have rights, most people agree that a fetus has rights on the day before it is born". Analyzing the following case:
In 1992, a new abortion procedure was introduced to the United States public. It was first performed by Dr. James McMahon and explained by Dr. Martin Haskell (Scully). It was used during the second and third trimesters (around twenty to twenty-four weeks along) and involved partially delivering the fetus so the doctors could remove the baby’s brain with suction (Wagner). The term “D&X”, which stands for “intact dilation and extraction,” was used to refer to this procedure (Hoyt). It was not until a few years later that debates about this procedure came about. In 1995, “Representative Charles Canady (R., Fla) introduced the Partial Birth Abortion Act” (Scully). Since then, the issue has been debated extensively. There have been questions about the accuracy of some facts that have been presented. This extremely political issue has more than just the usual two sides: Democratic and Republican. There are people against it who would like it banned completely, while others are against it but do not think it should be banned. Then, there are some who are in favor of it because they see nothing wrong with it, while still others are in favor of it just because they think that doing away with it would take away women’s rights. Those opinions and any others can mainly boil down to proponents and opponents of partial-birth abortion. In many articles over the years, both proponents and opponents have each given their logical appeals, emotional appeals, and ethical appeals while trying to destroy the other side of the issue.
rape, as I do not feel that a mother should be forced to have a child
Abortion has been one of the hottest political issues over a number of years. The issue of abortion is a huge debate between pro-lifers, people against abortion, and pro-choicers, people who support abortion. Since the Roe v. Wade court case in 1973, which legalized abortion, laws dealing with abortion have been altered in each individual state. Due to these laws, organizations such as the National Organization for Women (NOW) and Feminists for Life of America (FFL), have been created to debate the issues of abortion and stand up for what they believe. The laws in Pennsylvania and the Christian Bible have their own perspective on this “hot button” topic of abortion. These sources have similar and opposing opinions that offer a never-ending argument on this issue.
Less than 1% of all abortions are performed to save the life of the mother, and there have been millions of abortions in the United States alone since they became legal. Abortions are when the fetus is removed from the uterus before it has reached the stage of viability. There are a lot of ways that an abortion procedure can be done. During your first trimester which is up to twelve weeks of your pregnancy they usually do the endometrial aspiration, suction, or curettage to remove the baby from the uterus. In the endometrial aspiration procedure a thin flexible tube is inserted into the woman’s cervical canal (the neck of the womb) and then sucks out the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) with an electric pump. There is another procedure called dilatation and evacuation (also called suction curettage, or vacuum curettage), the cervical canal is enlarged by metal dilators while the patient is under anesthesia, after that a rigid suction tube is inserted into the uterus remove the fetus. Both the evacuation and curettage can be used up to about the 16th week of pregnancy (Britannica, 2013). But after those 16 weeks have passed the woman will have to be injected with the saline solution if there is enough fluid in the amniotic sac surrounding the baby. Saline solution is used to trigger uterine contractions. If that doesn’t work than other methods may be used to induce contractions, but these substances may cause severe side effects. After the toxic mixture is injected, the baby swallows the salt solution and is poisoned and his skin burned. After suffering for 1 to 1 and a half hours, the baby’s heartbeat stops. The effect of the salt solution burns the lungs and strips away the outer layer of the baby’s skin (Life, 2012). This ...
Many people have their own opinions on abortion, that a fetus is a human being with a right to live so abortion is similar to murder. While other groups argue that a woman has certain rights, especially the choice whether to bring another life into the world. The groups that are for it think that abortion gives women the control over their own bodies, which it is their choice when and whether to have children or giving an option to choose to bring or not to bring a child with abnormalities to the world. Some children are born with severe disorders and some parents, being unable to care for their disabled child seek abortion as their one and only option because taking care of a child, especially born with abnormalities is tough work to do as a parent, so they decide whether bring a life into the world. They look ahead on what is best for them, and it is selfish. Or even having in mind that some do not want to become a single parent taking up two roles; a mother and father and they feel like every child should come into the world feeling wanted, loved and cared for. Another reason some women have an abortion is because they do not want to stop work or schooling, and these reasons are consistent across many countries, including America. Other reasons are because of societal pressures, women get little to no social support. But
There are many arguments for and against abortion one main focus is whether or not the fetus is a person. For this essay I will only be analyzing and discussing two philosophers with two different arguments, who are for and against abortion, with neither of them focusing on whether or not the fetus is a person. First I’ll examine the argument Judith Jarvis Thomson concludes, in the cases of pregnancy due to rape, in her article entitled “A Defense of Abortion.” I’ll explain how she argues for abortion being morally permissible in cases of rape and will indicate one problem with her argument. Then in Don Marquis 's article entitled "Why Abortion is Immoral." I will explain how he argues that abortion is immoral and will also indicate one problem with his argument. Lastly, I will give my opinion on who I think may have the stronger argument of the two.
Today, Canada is one of only a few countries without a federal law restricting abortion. It has been legal throughout Canada since 1988. The definition of an abortion is “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy”. The spontaneous version of this is called a miscarriage, where the fetus is expelled without doctoral assistance. There are many reasons a women may want to terminate a pregnancy, such as the inability to care for or financially support a child, To prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe medical problems, or pregnancy resulting from rape or incest.
Prenatal care includes the treatment and care before birth to prevent health problems for both the mother and child in the future. Without health insurance, the average cost of prenatal care is about $2,000 (in-text citation). However, this isn’t their only dilemma, without insurance coverage, women will need to pay for not only prenatal care, but also maternity care, hospital delivery, hospital stay, post-partum healthcare, check-ups, and much more. Prenatal care is only a fraction of what their total bill will come out as. After the repeal and replace of Obamacare, the medical costs for pregnancy care before, during, and after may severely increase for women being considered as a pre-existing
This seems to be an immeasurable political fight. Abortion versus adoption, why more women choose to abort their babies than give them up for adoption. It is true that the process to abort an unborn baby is less expensive than adopting one, however, this is only true for the adopting family. “Depending on how far along you are in the pregnancy, the cost will range from $500-$2,000 for an abortion” ("Abortion or Adoption"). Granted that some insurances will cover most, if not all, the cost of the abortion if it is deemed a medical emergency. Conversely, most abortions are a mother 's choice and are not deemed a medical need. This being said the mother is responsible for the payment of the abortion in full. “There is no cost to you if you choose adoption. In fact, pregnancy-related expenses are paid for by the adoptive family, which often include medical care and living expenses” ("Abortion or Adoption"). Birth mothers do not have to pay anything out of pocket to place their baby with an adopted family. With that being stated, the process of adoption is essentially cheaper for the birth mother in the long run. The question supplicates, why do so many women still choose to abort their babies? “Some mothers choose abortion instead of adoption because they believe they can’t deal with wondering about where their babies are for the rest of their lives” (Brown, 2012). In cases such as this, open adoptions are the best answer not aborting the baby. If more mothers were educated on all the different types of adoption, then maybe more mothers would choose adoption over
In this paper, I will discuss the pro- abortion argument presented by Judith Thomson. The main idea of Thomson’s argument is that abortion is morally permissible. In supporting her position, Thomson presents several arguments regarding the implications of the right to life that she believes the anti- abortion might have dwelled on. As I explain her arguments, I will also attempt to criticize her view on the topic.
A woman during the mid-nineteen forties explains her demise of children she never met. She has gone through life producing children that have never fully formed to be able to give back to her as a mother. She begins with an exact description of a fresh abortion, “The damp small pulps with a little or with no hair” (Brooks, 1945, p. 663). Providing us details of what could have been in her life’s unique situation.
Financially, raising a child can be overwhelming. A September 2005 survey in the peer-reviewed journal Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health asking women why they had an abortion, found that 73% of respondents said they could not afford to have a baby (Abortion). In this country, there are 46.5 million people living at or below the poverty line. Frightening but true, over five million more women than men are living below the poverty line (Poverty in the United States: A Snapshot). If any of these women living below the poverty line become pregnant, they should have the option to abort if they realize that they cannot provide for that child. If not, a child growing up in poverty may be compromised in his ability to succeed in school; his social and emotional well-being, and his health may also be affected. If approximately 13 million of America’s children live in poverty, abortion may be a way to keep the number of In deciding to keep the baby, mothers take into consideration their current lifestyle and whether it is fit or not to support a child.
Being disabled is just a single facet of their life, and they have the same capacity to be happy as anyone else. While these three authors have different reasons to write their essays, be it media unfairness, ignorance, or ethical disputes, they all share a basic principle: The disabled are not viewed by the public as “normal people,” and they are unfairly cast away from the public eye. The disabled have the same capacity to love, desire and hurt as any other human being, and deserve all of the rights and privileges that we can offer them. They should be able to enter the same buildings, have representation in the media, and certainly be allowed the right to live.
Justifying Abortion Abortion is murder Rape, incest Life is Gods gift, we should not destroy Mother is unable to care for baby. e.g. very young, mental or physical health problems/ We have no right to take a unique life, everyone should have an equal chance to live. To save the mothers life There are possibly many other arguments for both sides of the argument but most of them are so closely linked that I would just be repeating myself. Rape and incest is traumatic for the woman, but think if that woman had to keep that child, a constant reminder of a horrible event.
